Port Clinton to East Mahanoy

From the junction at Port Clinton (MP 78.3), where the main line turns west, the single track, DCS, Little Schuylkill Branch continues north, with speed limit 28 mph, following the west bank of the eponymous river, bridging over the Schuylkill River itself on a through girder bridge, and curving back and forth to follow the course of the Little Schuylkill, with a generally northerly heading and many local variants, past a grade crossing, Clint (MP 78.8), where the Port Clinton Yard Limits end, a dirt track grade crossing, a road bridge carrying SR 61 overhead, Drehersville, Millers, two grade crossings, the river to the east, a rock wall to the west, Rauschs, where an erstwhile Lehigh Valley line once crossed on the flat, a grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, a deck girder bridge over the river, a dirt track grade crossing, a grade crossing, a road alongside to the west, the river alongside to the west, New Ringgold, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing at a driveway, and a grade crossing.

There is a deck girder bridge over the river, Ring (MP 87.7), a grade crossing, Heda, three deck girder bridges over the river, Webster, MP 90, where the speed limit drops to 25 mph, a bridge over a stream, a through girder bridge over the river, Reynolds, an angled grade crossing, Atlas (MP 92.8), a grade crossing, Zehners (MP 94.3), where Yard Limits start, and the curviness straightens out, with the line headed north and the route of an erstwhile Lehigh & New England line across the river to the east, a road alongside to the east, and American Coal Preparation to the west.

A 210 car siding (full of stored cars, in June, 2010) starts at Myrtle (MP 95.3), with a grade crossing in the siding, past Z (MP 96.8), at South Tamaqua, MY (MP97.5), Spruce (MP 98.0), where the long siding ends and there is also a 70 car siding, Tamaqua (MP 98.3), where the former Lehigh & New England Greenwood Branch, now owned by the R&N, heads away east-northeast, to the Greenwood Breaker, and a Reading line to Pottsville and West Cressona once headed west-southwest, two grade crossings, an old wooden depot (Tamaqua) to the west, a grade crossing, a street to the west, a grade crossing, a street to the east, and two grade crossings in town.

Yard Limits end at High (MP 98.8), where the line curves around to the west-southwest, in the woods, and starts the hard climb into the mountains, past an angled grade crossing, two bridges over the river, and Tamaqua Tunnel (MP 100.5), where the line turns back to the north, past a bridge over the river, and then west again, past another bridge over the river, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing with a driveway, Barnesville, where the line turns west-southwest, a bridge over a stream in the woods, a grade crossing, a road bridge overhead, and East Mahanoy Junction (MP 103.7), where lines to Jim Thorpe and to Hazleton head away north (with a junction not far away to the north), while the Little Schuylkill Branch continues west.
