Boston North Station

Boston North Station (MP 0.0) is located in the basement of the current Boston Garden, on the south bank of the Charles River. It is a stub-end terminal with an air-rights building over the top of the concourse and its five platforms, with umbrella sheds at the outer ends, serving ten tracks which combine in the station throat to become four tracks crossing two parallel two-track through-truss bridges, headed northwest over the Charles River and past a road bridge overhead to the interlocking at Tower A (MP 0.3), on the north bank of the river, where there are crossovers and the lines split three ways: the two-track Fitchburg Route Main Line (Fitchburg Line) heading west-northwest; the two-track New Hampshire Route Main Line (Lowell Line), continuing northwest; and the three-track combined Eastern/Western Route Main Lines (Newburyport/Rockport Line and Haverhill Line) heading north-northwest.

All tracks in this area have a 10 mph speed limit.
