Lowell Junction to Lawrence

From Lowell Junction (CPF-LJ, MP 291.15/19.85), where the Western Main Line (Haverhill Line) trails into the south side of the former GTI Freight Main Line, coming from the west, the combined line heads just east of due north, single track, CTC, speed limit 40 mph for passenger trains and (prior to upgrading) 50 mph for passenger trains, past a grade crossing just south of the station, the siding and MBTA passenger station, with platform and shelter on the east side, at Ballardville (MP 290.52/20.48), where it turns north-northeast, a wooded area, an MBTA detector at MP 22.3, the siding and passenger station, with platform and wooden depot to the east, at Andover (MP 288.22/22.78), and a wooded area.

There is a bridge over ??, just south of CPF-FY (MP 287.30/23.70), where the Lawrence Running Track starts, on the east side of the main track, and the line turns north, a road bridge overhead, a twelve to fourteen track yard on the east side at Shawsheen (MP 287.09/23.91), a grade crossing at the north end of the yard, just south of the junction at CPF-AS (MP 285.37/25.63), where the branch to Salem, NH, continues north and the main line turns east (with extra track on the east side turning east, also), Two Main Tracks, CTC, with a speed restriction to 35 mph as far as overhead bridge 26.34, north of Lawrence, past dual through-truss road bridges overhead, a through girder bridge over a street, and a street alongside to the east, to the siding and MBTA passenger station, with center island platform with umbrella shed between the tracks, and an east-side low-level platform further north, at Lawrence (MP 284.96/26.04).
