Blue Island to Joliet

From the Metra station at Blue Island Vermont Street (MP 15.7), platforms on the east side of the branch and the west side of the main line, brick depot between them, passing a grade crossing at the south end of the station, beneath an angled road bridge, where the branch trails back into the Joliet main line, and the line turns southwest, bridging over the Calumet Sag Channel on a through girder bridge, past a cantilever signal bridge, a bridge over a street below, and then a deck girder bridge over the (Blue Island) junction between the former B&OCT (two lines) and GTW freight lines passing below, with another water channel just to the east (crossed by the famous through truss bridges on those lines below), past a connecting line trailing up and in on the west side, a bridge over a stream, and the Iowa Interstate yard on the northwest side.

There is a cantilever signal bridge overhead, and then the Metra station (two side platforms, parking lot to the east) at Robbins (MP 17.2), a grade crossing south of the platforms, a road bridge overhead, the line in the woods, a wide road bridge overhead (I-294), being widened in 6-07, a stream alongside to the west, crossovers at CP Midlothian (MP 18.2), and the Metra station (two side platforms, depot on the east side at the south end) at Midlothian (MP 18.4), with a grade crossing within the platforms north of the depot, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing with a north-south street, the stream still alongside to the west, a bridge over that stream, a bridge over a north-south street, a pedestrian crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 20.0, and the Metra station (two side platforms) at Oak Forest (MP 20.4), with 'depot' and parking lot to the southeast.

The line turns west-southwest, past a bridge over an east-west divided road just south of the station, extra track on the northwest side, trailing in, a grade crossing with a north-south street, a grade crossing with an east-west street, Intermediate Signals, a dirt track grade crossing in a wooded area, signals and crossovers, a grade crossing at the east end of the Metra station (two side platforms, depot and parking lot on the south side) at Tinley Park (MP 23.5), a grade crossing with a north-south street at the west end, extra track on the north side, a bridge over a north-south street, Intermediate Signals at MP 24.8/9, the Metra station (two side platforms, parking both sides) at Tinley Park/80th Avenue (MP 25.1), a grade crossing with a north-south street at the west end of the station, ponds on both the north and south sides, an east-west road bridge overhead, a track heading off to the north, the Metra station (two side platforms, parking to the south) at Mokena/Hickory Creek, a bridge over a street, a wide road bridge overhead (I-80), a grade crossing with an east-west street, a spur on the south side, a lake to the south, a grade crossing with a north-south street, and the Metra station (two side platforms, depot to the south, parking both sides) at Mokena (MP 29.6).

There are two extra tracks on the south side, a grade crossing at the west end of the station, signals and crossovers, MP 30, a street alongside to the north, a grade crossing with an east-west street, a signal bridge, a bridge over a river and street, extra track on the north side, and a road bridge overhead, and the line turns west, passing beneath the through truss bridge carrying the Metra Southwest line (ex-Wabash) and past the Metra station (two side platforms, depot and parking lot to the south) at New Lenox (MP 34.0), just west of that bridge, a west-facing 70-30 speed limit sign, a grade crossing with a north-south street at the west end of the station, a street bridge overhead, extra track on the south side, and a west-facing 60-30 speed limit sign.

The line turns west-northwest, with a river to the north, past two grade crossing with north-south streets, signals, dual road bridges overhead (I-80), crossovers at CP 35.5, signals, a street alongside to the south, a grade crossing with a north-south street, a stream alongside to the north, a pond on the north side, a bridge over an east-west street, a street alongside to the south, a north-south road bridge overhead, and just south of west past an east-facing 40-30 speed limit sign, a northeast quadrant connector curving away, signals, the two-track flat crossing at EJ&E Crossing (MP 38.9), where it turns west, and signals, with extra track on the south side, past east-facing signals at Mueller Street, the east end of an eight-track Metra yard on the north side of the line, with west end at CP Richards Street (MP 39.9), where the line drops to single track, extra track on the south side, trailing in, west-facing signals, a bridge over a north-south street, east-facing signals, a bridge over a north-south street, UD Tower (MP 40.1), in the northeast quadrant, the flat crossing with the CNIC and BNSF lines and Joliet Union Station (MP 40.2), where the concrete station building is in the northwest quadrant with the platform on the north side of the line, end of Metra services on this line.
