Des Plaines to Barrington

Deval Tower was demolished on November 26, 2012, after being out of service for fiver or six years. From Deval (MP 17.7),, where there is a flat crossing with a double-track former C&NW freight line, with a north quadrant connector trailing in, and a connector on the south side heading away, west of the flat crossing (with a west-facing connector trailing in further west), the main line continues northwest, Three Main Tracks, current-of-traffic, Automatic Block Signals, Automatic Train Stop, with overall speed limit 70 mph for passenger trains and 60 mph for freights, past a signal bridge, Seegers Road alongside to the southwest, a bridge over East Golf Road (SR 58), the Metra station at Cumberland (MP 18.6), with a center island and east side platforms, east side depot, and parking on both sides, limited by the presence of US 14 (Northwest Highway) to the northeast, a signal bridge, Seeger (MP 18.9), where that connector trails in on the south side, with a speed restriction of 10 mph on the turnout, a signal bridge, a grade crossing with South Mount Prospect Road, East Prospect Avenue alongside to the southwest, a grade crossing with Brierson Street (MP 19.62), a grade crossing at South Emerson Street, the Metra station at Mt. Prospect (MP 20.0), which has center island and northeast side platform and depot, and  a grade crossing with South Main Street (SR 63) within the platforms.

West Prospect Avenue now runs alongside to the southwest, there is a grade crossing with divided West Central Road, where Prospect Avenue ends, and Northwest Highway (US 14) continues alongside to the northeast, past a short stretch of Prospect Avenue beginning and ending again, a grade crossing with East Gregory Street, which joins East Davis Street, starting alongside to the southwest, a bridge over a short connector between that street and US 14, the street to the southwest merging into another and turning away, a grade crossing with South Arlington Heights Road, where Davis Street starts again on the southwest side, a grade crossing with North Evergreen Avenue, a grade crossing with North Dunton Avenue, within the platforms of the Metra station at Arlington Heights (MP 22.8), which has a center island and northeast side platform and depot, with northeast side parking, and a grade crossing with North Vail Avenue (MP 22.84), where Davis Avenue ends.

There is a bridge over North Ridge Avenue, extra track on the northeast side, a grade crossing with divided Euclid Avenue, a grade crossing with divided South Wilke Road, Northwest Highway (US 14) still alongside to the north, the Arlington Park racetrack to the south, the Metra station at Arlington Park (MP 24.4), with center island and east side platforms, parking and depot on the south side, and two extra tracks on the north side, a spur from industry trailing in on the south side, the dual road bridges of SR 53 overhead, a grade crossing with divided Rohlwing Road, extra track on the south side and a spur trailing in from the south, a grade crossing with South Hicks Road, US 14 turns away on the north side, Intermediate Signals (signal bridge), a grade crossing with the intersection of East Palatine Road and North Hale Street, a grade crossing with North Pine Grove Road, West Station Street and then West Railroad Avenue alongside to the north, a grade crossing with North Rockway Street, the Metra station at Palatine (MP 26.8), with center island and north side platforms, north side depot and north side parking and a grade crossing with North Smith Street within the platforms, where the Palatine, Lake Zurich  & Wauconda Railroad once headed north, west of the station.

The line continues northwest, with West Colfax Street appearing on the north side, past a grade crossing with divided North Quentin Road, woods to the south, Intermediate Signals (signal bridge), Colfax Street ending, a grade crossing with divided Baldwin Road as Northwest Highway (US 14) appears alongside to the north again, dual road bridges carrying West Dundee Road (SR 68) overhead, with woods alongside to the south,  Carlisle Drive briefly alongside to the southwest, two ponds alongside to the southwest, with a speed restriction of 55/50 on Track 1 between MP 29.0 and MP 29.4, a lake alongside to the southwest, a speed restriction of 50/40 between MP 31.0 and MP 32.0, with a speed restriction of 10 mph for trains taking diverging routes at MP 31.0, where the Three Main Tracks reduce to Double Track, a grade crossing with Eastern Avenue, Bristol Avenue alongside to the southwest, with Northwest Highway (US 14) still alongside to the north, and then through the suburban town of Barrington as US 14 turns away again, with its Metra station (MP 31.9, two side platforms, depot to the northeast, parking on both sides), grade crossings with East Main Street and North Cook Street in close proximity, a grade crossing with North Hough Street (SR 59), and the flat crossing with the eponymous single track railroad at  EJ&E (MP 32.3), with an erstwhile connector in the west quadrant.
