Franklin Park to Leithton

At Tower B12 (MP 12.7 on the Milwaukee line), the two tracks curving away on the north side of the Milwaukee West Line trail in on the east side of the single track CN (former Wisconsin Central) line that crosses on the flat, south-north, with one of them joining the single Main Track and one becoming the East Freight Lead, with a West Freight Lead splitting off the single track on the west side just south of the connector joining in, and the line heads just west of due north, single track, Yard Limits, with overall speed limit 50 mph, but local speed restriction 20 mph, past a grade crossing at Belmont Avenue, the Franklin Park Metra station (MP 15.3), with east side and island platforms, brick depot and parking to the east, signal bridges and a crossover at Junction 16 (MP 16.0), a bridge over Irving Park Road, and the six-track yard on the east side of the line at Schiller Yard (MP 17.0), with its yard office on the east side of the main track near the north end of the yard, and the two side platforms of the Metra Schiller Park station, with depot to the west.

At the north end of the yard, there is a bridge over Lawrence Avenue, with a street alongside to the west, and then a bridge over I-294 at MP 18,  as two leads come out of the yard at its north end, with one trailing into the main track, and a crossover, at Junction 19 (MP 18.x), and the Metra Rosemont station (island platform) at a road bridge overhead, a bridge over the I-90 expressway and CTA line to O-Hare Airport, two extra tracks to the east of the Two Main Tracks, then one extra track to the east, the Metra O'Hare Airport station (two side platforms and white brick depot to the west), which has a shuttle bus to O’Hare Airport, crossovers and signals at Junction 20 (MP 19.9), where CTC starts, and the freight speed restriction rises to 40 mph, a bridge over Higgins Road, a bridge over a stream, and angled road bridge overhead carrying I-94, a grade crossing at Pratt Avenue, US 12/45 alongside to the west, a bridge over Touhy Avenue, a street alongside to the east, MP 21, and a grade crossing with Frontage Road.

The line continues past a grade crossing with an east-west street, local streets alongside to both east and west, two grade crossings with east-west streets, Orchard Place, a grade crossing with a north-south (or angled) street, River View, a grade crossing with an angled street, the end of 2MT at Des Plaines (MP 22.8), two grade crossings with east-west streets, a local street to the west, a grade crossing with an east-west street, and the flat crossings with the triple-track UP Northwest Line (with the brick Deval Tower in the northwest quadrant), and with a double track former C&NW freight line, at Deval (MP 23.7), with freight speed restriction 30 mph over the crossings, after which full line speeds prevail, and a bridge over an angled street that is north-south on the east side of the track, right at the second flat crossing.

There is a spur on the west side just north of Deval, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing with an east-west street, a grade crossing with a divided east-west street, a grade crossing with an angled divided street, Prospect, where Two Main Tracks, CTC, start, a grade crossing with the east-west Brea Road, two bridges over streams, a stream alongside to the west, a grade crossing with the east-west Euclid Road, the Metra station with two side platforms, brick depot and parking lot to the west, at Prospect Heights, a grade crossing with Wolf Road, a grade crossing with Camp MacDonald Road, Intermediate Signals at McKinley (MP 28.0), a grade crossing with an east-west street, a spur on the east side trailing in, a bridge over a divided east-west street, a spur on the west side, a spur on the east side, detectors at MP 28.6, a grade crossing with an east-west street, a former spur to the east, a spur to the east, and a bridge over a stream to a pond on the east side, a spur on the west side for Hogan Farwell, with a 5 mph speed restriction, the Metra station at Wheeling (MP 29.9), with two side brick platforms brick/stucco depot and parking to the west, a grade crossing with an east-west street, a bridge over a street, and a park to the west.

Single track, CTC, resumes for a very short distance, with a signal bridge over the 2MT, past a road bridge overhead, and then 2MT resume, with a signal bridge over the 2MT, just south of  the Metra station at Buffalo Grove, with two side brick platforms, brick/stucco depot and parking lot to the west, past a grade crossing with an east-west divided street, a spur to an industry on the west side, an industrial spur on the east side, a grade crossing at Atlantic Road, Intermediate Signals, two ponds on the west side, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing with an east-west street, the Metra station at Prairie View, with two side platforms, brick depot to the west, and parking to east and west, a street alongside to the west, extra track to the west, crossovers at Prairie View (MP 34.4), a grade crossing with an east-west street, a bridge over a stream, a cemetery to the east, a bridge over a bike path, the Metra station at Vernon Hills, with two brick side platforms and stucco depots on both sides, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing with an angled street, Intermediate Signals, a street alongside to the west, a spur to a petrochemical facility to the west, two grade crossings with east-west streets, a spur trailing in on the west side, and the flat crossing, and connectors in the southwest and northwest quadrants, with the EJ&E at Leithton  (MP 38.0).
