Kensington to University Park

The Kensington connection moved to just north of Kensington station on February 15, 2012. Just south of Kensington (MP 14.49) is a flat junction, with the former tower still intact on the east side, where the South Shore line tracks (one from the Metra Electric line, one from the IC main) swing away south-southeast, crossing the IC main line at grade, the line passes beneath a through girder bridge carrying the former Chicago & Western Indiana tracks now owned by UP, and there is a flat junction and crossovers where the single track of the Blue Island branch  turns due west while the University Park line continues ahead, with the IC main line just to its east (with signals and crossovers at this point), past the Metra shops on the west side of the line, a closed station at 130th Street, a bridge over an east-west street, a through truss bridge over the Calumet Sag Channel, a deck bridge over two-track the B&OCT and a short remaining segment of the former PRR Panhandle line (with someone's yard just to the west on that line), signals on the IC main, a bridge over an east-west street, the station (asphalt island) at Riverdale (MP 17.33), a bridge over an east-west street, and a deck bridge over the IHB.

There are Intermediate Signals on the IC main, a park on the west side, a station (asphalt island) at Ivanhoe (MP 18.18), a bridge over an east-west street within the station, a bridge over a stream, Intermediate Signals on the IC main, a fifth track on the IC north of the yard, the station (asphalt island) at 147th Street (MP 18.98), a bridge over an east-west street south of the station, a bridge over a north-south street, a bridge over an east-west street, a deck bridge over the two-track former GTW, on the north side, and the single track former B&OCT, on the south side, tracks, with connectors from the IC main to the south, on its east side, down to the GTW tracks both west and east (all CN, in the 2000s), crossovers on the IC, north of the yard, a bridge over an east-west street, a street alongside to the west, the station (asphalt island) at Harvey (MP 20.00), a bridge over 85th Street, crossovers, a bridge over an east-west street, and the north end of the IC Markham Yard on the east side.

 The lines continues past a bridge over an east-west street that also passes beneath the yard, a bridge over a stream, which then runs between the lines and the yard to the east, the station (asphalt island) at Hazel Crest (MP 22.27), across from the IC Markham Yard, with the street still alongside to the west, Intermediate Signals on the four-track IC main, a bridge over an east-west street, an Interstate highway bridge overhead (that also passes over the yard), the station (asphalt island) at Calumet (MP 22.82), still across from that yard, Intermediate Signals, the station (asphalt island) at Homewood (MP 23.51), where there is also an island platform on the IC main across from the south end of that yard, trailing in here, crossovers south of the Metra station, signals and crossovers on the IC main reducing that line to three tracks, a bridge over an east-west street, the station (asphalt island) at Flossmoor (MP 24.93), with a former depot on the west side and a bridge over an east-west street within the station, Intermediate Signals, a bridge over an east-west street, a golf course on the east side, the station (asphalt island) at Olympia Fields (MP 26.56), the station (asphalt island) at 211th Street (MP 27.62),  a bridge over an east-west street within the station, a bridge over an east-west street north of the station (asphalt island) at Matteson (MP 28.24), where the IC tracks are wide apart, crossovers at the south end of the station, a Metra yard on the west side, a former crossing with an erstwhile Michigan Central line, a bridge overhead carrying the EJ&E, with a south-to-east connector from the east side of the IC main, after which that line is only two tracks, an IC yard o the east side, crossovers at the south end of the Metra yard, at the north end of the station (asphalt "island", west side track stub end north of depot, depot on west side) at Richton (MP 29.33), crossovers on the IC, a bridge over an east west street, Metra line is now single track, a siding splits off on west side,  and the end of the line at the station (asphalt island, two stub-end tracks) at University Park (MP 31.50), which is outside the CTC that controls the rest of the line.
