Lake Bluff to Kenosha

From the Metra station with two side platforms and a brick depot on the east side at Lake Bluff (MP 30.2), where a C&NW line approaches from the southwest just south of the station, and passes along the west side of the station to trail in north of the station at the signals at CP E 030, and a North Shore line once crossed, the line continues due north,  with full speeds of 70 mph for passenger trains and 60 mph for freight trains, with the route of a former North Shore line just to the west and another a little further away to the east, past Intermediate Signals, the Metra station with two side platforms, a depot on the east side and parking lots on both sides at Great Lakes (MP 32.2), where the Great Lakes Naval Base is immediately adjacent on the east side and the line turns north-northeast, a bridge over Brinkley Avenue at the north end of the station, a former bridge over that North Shore line that had been running on the east side, a bridge over 24th Street, a highway under construction on the west side, a grade crossing, North Chicago Junction where a line from Great Lakes Naval Base trails in from the east side, a bridge carrying the EJ&E line overhead, Intermediate Signals at MP 33.4, and the Metra station with two side platforms and parking lots on both sides at North Chicago (MP 33.7).

Lake Michigan is quite close on the east side as the line makes a turn to just east of due north, past a bridge over a street, a rail-served petroleum plant on the west side, a grade crossing with a divided street, a spur from the plant trailing in, a bridge over a street, construction on the west side, a road bridge overhead, a highway on the west side, the Metra station with two side platforms, depot and parking lot to the west at Waukegan (MP 35.9), where there is a yard on the east side of the east platform, and the EJ&E terminates on the east side of the line, Intermediate Signals at MP 36.1, a road bridge overhead, a track on the west side trailing in, with the line now out in the woods, a highway on the west side, Greenwood Avenue bridging overhead, yard tracks on the east side and a spur off to industrial tracks on the east side (a power station on the lake), Asbestos, a bridge over a stream, three grade crossings, Beach, the Metra station with two side platforms at Zion (MP 42.1), a grade crossing (25th Street) at the north end of the station, a spur curving away northeast to a plant on the lake, Intermediate Signals, Camp Logan, a grade crossing, CP E 044, a grade crossing right at the south end of  the Metra station with two side platforms at Winthrop Harbor (MP 44.5), where the line edges due north, past a grade crossing, and crosses into Wisconsin, past Intermediate Signals and detectors at MP 46.1, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, three bridges over streets, the former junction with a C&NW branch from the west at MP 50.8, where the speed limit drops to 60, 40, a street alongside to the east, Intermediate Signals, a bridge over a street with the line now up on an embankment, a signal bridge for the former tracks at a lower level on the west side, track at the lower level on the west side, four bridges over streets (the second at an acute angle), the track on the west side curving away west at a wye on the west side, and the Metra station with an island platform up on the embankment, at Kenosha (MP 51.6), where Metra services end, with the former depot, now a cafe, at street level on the east side.
