Rondout to Fox Lake

At Rondout (MP 32.3), there is a 7,056 ft. siding on the east side and a 10,132 ft. siding on the west side, a signal bridge, connectors in the southeast and southwest quadrants, the EJ&E crosses at grade, with the tower still standing on the east side, the North Shore once crossed overhead (and the bridge is still there), there is a grade crossing just north of the bridge, a bridge over a stream, and the Fox Lake line turns away to the northwest,  as the main line continues north to Milwaukee.

The Fox Lake line briefly heads west, past extra track on the north side, a road bridge overhead with the end of double track under the bridge, then northwest, past a grade crossing over a north-south street, a bridge over a river, a track diverging on the south side into a facility, and west, past a bridge over a street, a grade crossing with Parker Avenue, the Metra station (platform and brick depot on the south side) at Libertyville (MP 35.5), out into the country, past MP 36, a grade crossing over an east-west street, MP 37, a grade crossing with a north-south street, and then northwest,  past Intermediate Signals at MP 37.x, extra track on the northeast sdie, trailing in, a bridge over a divided east-west road, a bridge over US 45 (divided, north-south), west-northwest, past a grade crossing with a southwest to northeast street, the Metra station (platform and wooden depot to the southwest) at Prairie Crossing, Libertyville, and northwest again, with a road to the northeast.

The line turns west-northwest, with a road still to the northeast, crosses the single track former Wisconsin Central (the Metra "North Central Line") on the flat at WC Crossing (MP 39.9), with a northeast quadrant connector, and passes a spur trailing in from an industry on the south side, a grade crossing with a north-south street, a bridge over a stream, a siding beginning on the southwest side, the Metra station (two side platforms, wooden depot on the northeast side) at Grays Lake (MP 41.0), a grade crossing with a north-south street at the north end of the station, a grade crossing with a north-south street, the siding ending, a grade crossing with a north-south street, a grade crossing with an east-west street, MP 42, an acute angle grade crossing, Highland Lake, Intermediate Signals at MP 43.x, a grade crossing with a north-south street, the Metra station (platform and brick depot on the southwest side) at Round Lake (MP 44.0), and extra track on the northeast side trailing in.

There is a street alongside to the southwest, a grade crossing with an east-west street, a curve northwest, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing with a north-south street, Intermediate Signals, and then a curve west-northwest again, a bridge over a river, a road alongside to the northeast, a Metra station (platform and stone shelter to the northeast) at Long Lake (MP 46.0), a grade crossing at the west end of the station, a lake across the street to the northeast, a grade crossing with an east-west street, a grade crossing with a north-south street, a lake to the southwest, MP 47, Intermediate Signals, a curve north, two dirt road grade crossings, and then a curve northwest again, a Metra station (platform and brick shelter on the northeast side) at Ingleside (MP 47.8), a grade crossing with a southwest-northeast street, an east-west road bridge overhead, a road alongside to the northeast, extra track on the southwest side, MP 49, a grade crossing with a north-south street, eight yard tracks on the southwest side, with the road still alongside to the northeast, the yard tracks end, a grade crossing, and a Metra station (brick platform and depot on the northeast side) at Fox Lake (MP 49.5), the end of Metra service.

The speed limit on the line is 60 mph for passenger trains and 30 mph for freights, except at WC Crossing, where the passenger train limit is 50 mph, and the last half mile into Fox Lake, where it is 40 mph. The whole line is ABS.
