At the west end of the eight track West Chicago Yard, on the north side of the line, with a two-track auto yard on the south side, all three tracks on the lefthand running line are CTC-controlled and trains travel at full speeds: 70 mph for passenger, 60 mph for TOFC, and 60 mph for freight trains. At the crossovers at WX (MP 32.1), which have a signal bridge at the east end, a cantilever signal bridge at the center, a road bridge overhead, and a signal bridge on the west end, track 1 ends but is being extended during 2010 (but the tracks to the west are numbered 1 and 2 from the south), with speed limits 50, 50, 40 for straight trains (on the northernmost track only) and 30 mph for diverging trains (all others), and a branch departs on the north side of the line, past a golf course on that side
There is an acute angle grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, a closed grade crossing, a road bridge overhead, a line trailing in on the north side, crossovers (Geneva), a spur heading away south, and a road bridge overhead just before the line bridges over the Fox River (and used to bridge over a CA&E line on the west bank) on a deck bridge, passing over a street as it does so, and passes Intermediate Signals at MP 34.53, a grade crossing at 3rd Street, and the Metra station, with two side platforms and a brick depot to the north, at Geneva (MP 35.5), the former end of Metra service until April, 2006, where speed limits are 50 mph.
There are Intermediate Signals at MP 35.7. Branches once left to the north and then the south, west of Geneva, and the line continues west past a grade crossing, a road bridge overhead, a signal bridge at the east end of the crossovers at GX (MP 37.2), a line trailing in on the north side, an acute angle road bridge overhead, a signal bridge at the west end of the crossovers, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing, crossovers at Peck (MP 38.2), the new end of the third track in 2010, a dirt track grade crossing, a grade crossing, the Metra station with south side and center island platforms, depot to the north, at La Fox, a bridge over a road at the west end of the station, a signal bridge, a road bridge overhead, extra track on the north side, a signal bridge, a six-track Metra yard on the south side, MP 43, the Metra yard ends, a signal bridge, and crossovers, to the Metra station, with south side platform (only) and brick depot on the south side, at Elburn (MP 44.0), where Metra services have terminated since April, 2006. Speed limits west of Geneva are 70, 60, 60 with 30 mph for diverging trains.
