Independence to Jefferson City (via Sedalia)

From Independence (MP 273.2), where the MP River sub. once continued east (it is now reached from the Santa Fe line, further east), the Sedalia sub. turns away curvily south, past a grade crossing, a road bridge overhead, and two grade crossings, bridging over a KCS line heading east, past Independence Junction (MP 271.2, where the 2MT give way to single track, CTC, the speed limit rises to 70/55, and a connector from that KCS line once trailed in on the west side, with a grade crossing in the "vee" of the junction, a grade crossing, a bridge over I-70, a road bridge overhead, Little Blue, a bridge over an angled road, a wooded area, a bridge over a stream, a detector at MP 265.7, a grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, a dirt road to the south, an angled grade crossing, a rocky cutting in a wooded area, a bridge over a dirt road, a road bridge overhead, dual road bridges overhead (I-470), dual road bridges overhead again (I-470), a street alongside to the south, turning away, an embankment, a grade crossing, extra track (on the north side?) at Ploytainer (MP 260.8), and extra track (on the north side?) at Sweet Lumber (MP 260.3).

There is a street alongside to the south, a bridge over a street, the Lees Summit passenger station, with platform and shelter on the south side, a grade crossing at the east end of the platform, the 7,902 ft. north side siding at Lees Summit (MP 259.6, where the speed limit is 65-55, to MP 258.0, where it is 60-45), with a bridge over a highway and extra track on the north side at Pfizer (MP 258.7), within the siding, and the line turns curvily south-southeast, past extra track on the south side at Plastic (MP 257.7), a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing, a road bridge overhead, a bridge over a stream in the woods, extra track to the south, Greenwood, where the speed limit is back to 70/55 and a former Rock Island line once came alongside to the west, a pond to the south, a detector at MP 251.8, Avon, two bridges over streams in the woods, a grade crossing, and the 9,700 ft. south side siding at Pleasant Hill (MP 249.8, where the speed limit is 70/55, past MP 249.0, where it is 50 mph, to MP 247.8, where it is 70/55 again), where (MP 249.0) the Missouri & Northern Arkansas (a former MP line) heads away southwest at a wye.

The Sedalia sub. turns just south of due east, past a road alongside to the south, a road bridge overhead, the east end of Pleasant Hill siding, a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a 'river', three dirt road grade crossings, an embankment, a road to the south, a dirt road grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, the road edging away, two dirt track grade crossings, the 4,316 ft. south side siding at Strasburg (MP 243.8 to MP 242.8), with a grade crossing in town and a through girder bridge over a 'river', within the siding, and a road alongside to the south again, and then curvily east past a grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, a shallow cutting, an embankment, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, the road turning away, and a grade crossing in Kingsville.

The road comes back alongside to the south again, and the line passes two dirt road grade crossings, the road turning away, a dirt road to the south, which then turns across a dirt road grade crossing, another dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, three grade crossings in Holden (MP 232.4), where the passenger speed limit is 65 mph, an MKT line once trailed in from the southwest and one once left to the south-southeast, and there is still extra track remaining from both, a dirt road alongside to the south, a detector at MP 229.9, where the passenger speed limit has returned to 70 mph, two dirt road grade crossings, Doran, woods and fields, a dirt road grade crossing, fields with trees at the edges, a bridge over a stream, and the 9,015 ft. south side siding at Centerview (MP 225.5 to MP 223.7), with a grade crossing and a spur to silos on the south side, within the siding.

There is an angled dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, two bridges over streams in the woods, a grade crossing in town, a grain elevator on the north side, a street alongside to the south, a grade crossing at Washington Street, the passenger station (stone depot and platform on the south side) at Warrensburg (MP 218.4), where the speed limit is 45 mph and a line from Pertle Springs once trailed in, a grade crossing east of the station, two road bridges overhead, two grade crossings, still in Warrensburg, a grade crossing with an overhead road bridge under construction in October, 2009, a bridge over a stream in the woods, US 50 alongside to the north, an angled dirt road grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, Montserrat, a dirt road to the south with US 50 still to the north, a detector at MP 210.8, where the speed limit is 70/55, a dirt road grade crossing, a road briefly to the south, turning across a grade crossing, and a bridge over a stream.

A newish south side siding at Knobnoster (MP 208.1), where the passenger speed limit is 65 mph, has extra track on the south side where a line turns away south to Whiteman AFB, with two road bridges overhead and two grade crossings in Knobnoster, within the siding, and the line continues past an angled road bridge carrying US 50 overhead (from the north side of the line to the south side), a bridge over a 'river' in the woods, a grade crossing, open fields (hay or stubble, in October 2009), a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, a dirt road alongside to the south, becoming a gravel road, a grade crossing in Lamonte (MP 200.9), where the passenger speed limit is back to 70 mph, two dirt road grade crossings, divided US 50 alongside to the south, and the 7,488 ft. south side siding at Dresden (MP 197.4 to MP 195.7), with double-ended extra track serving silos to the south.

The line turns south, past a grade crossing in Dresden, a spur from a warehouse trailing in on the south side, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing and a bridge over a river, and then east again past a quarry pit to the south, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing, an erstwhile spur from the fairgrounds once trailing in, a bridge over a 'river', a road briefly alongside to the south, a spur trailing in on the south side, a detector at MP 190.3, where the passenger speed limit is 60 mph, and an erstwhile line from Lexington once trailing in from the north, a grade crossing in town, tow closed grade crossings in town, and two grade crossings in town, culminating in Indiana Street, to the passenger station (bus shelter in parking lot on the south side, brick MoPac depot and platform to the north) at Sedalia (MP 188.9), where the speed limit is 40 mph, a line once left to the south, the rump of a former MKT line trails in from the southwest and that MKT line once left to the northeast, with a grade crossing at Ohio Street, east of the depot.

The former MP line continues just south of due east, past a closed grade crossing in town, a through truss road bridge overhead, two grade crossings, four separate streets briefly to the south, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, a bridge over a road, a dirt road alongside to the south that ends, a road alongside to the north, three grade crossings in open fields, the 9.331 ft. north side siding at Smithton (MP 182.9 to MP 180.9), with a road alongside to the south, turning away, a grade crossing, and non-rail-connected silos to the south, all within the siding, where the speed limit is 70/55 and the line is heading east, a dirt road to the south that ends at a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, a road bridge overhead, a dirt track grade crossing, a road alongside to the south, a bridge over a stream, and two grade crossings in Otterville (MP 175.7), where the passenger speed limit is 65 mph and the line is heading just north of due east.

There is a newish siding on the south side, with a spur trailing in from the south within the siding, a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a river and a bridge over a dirt road before the line turns east-southeast, past an embankment and then a rock cutting in the woods, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, a road bridge overhead, a grade crossing, a detector at MP 170.0, where the speed limit is 55/50, a dirt track grade crossing, a road (US 50?) alongside to the south, two dirt road grade crossings in Syracuse, where the line is heading east again, the 8,546 ft. north side siding at Dow (MP 166.9 to MP 165.2), where the speed limit is back to 70/55, with two dirt road grade crossings within the siding, a dirt road grade crossing, the road alongside to the south turning away, and a dirt road grade crossing.

A north-south MP line once crossed on the flat at Tipton (MP 162.8), where there is a grade crossing and a spur to silos on the south side, followed by two grade crossings, a spur curving away south to a facility, a dirt track grade crossing, fields with stubble (in October, 2009), a dirt road grade crossing, two grade crossings in Clarksburg, in a curvy stretch of line, a detector at MP 156.2, two dirt track grade crossings, a dirt road grade crossing, an embankment, a new siding on the south side, on an embankment (MP 153.5 to MP 151.6, named "California", opened November 21, 2009), Shell Spur (MP 151.3), a dirt road grade crossing, two streets alongside to the south and five grade crossings in California (MP 150.3), a cemetery to the south, and a turn south past a grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, and Intermediate Signals, to Brant.

The line turns east again, with US 50 again to the south, past a dirt track grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing and Intermediate Signals at MP 145.8, to McGirk, and north-northeast and then curvily east again past a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing at "PP", a road alongside to the south, turning away, a dirt track grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing,  the 8,363 ft. south side siding at Centertown (MP 141.9 to MP 140.2), where the speed limit is 50/45, with extra track to the south and a grade crossing within the siding, an embankment, a road to the south, a detector at MP 139.1, three cuttings, a dirt track grade crossing, an embankment, a grade crossing, a bridge over drainage, a cutting, and embankment, and a grade crossing in Elston.

There is a rocky cutting, an embankment, a pond to the south, a bridge over drainage, a dirt track grade crossing, a road to the south, a road bridge overhead (SR 179), two bridges over streams in the woods, a rocky cutting, Intermediate Signals at MP 130.8, Scott, a bridge over a stream, a pond alongside to the north, a grade crossing, extra track to the north at River Terminal (MP 129,2), where the speed limit is 55/50, the track on a ledge above the valley to the north, River Junction (MP 128.0), where the River sub. trails in from the west-northwest on the north side, Two Main Tracks, CTC, begin, the speed limit is 55 mph and the line turns east-southeast, along the south bank of the Missouri River, with a rock wall to the south, a road bridge overhead, a track curving away to the south to a three-track yard, trailing back in at a cement facility, a bridge over a 'river', signals at CP M 126 (MP 126.4), where the speed limit is 40/35, and Jefferson City (MP 125.5), where there is a passenger station (platform and brick depot on the south side), the rump of a former MP line trailing in from the west (on the south side), a yard (at least three tracks), and crossovers.
