Aldene to Calco

From the junction at CP-Aldene (MP 15.1), where the descending single track connection from the Lehigh Line, which continues with a through truss bridge over the out-of-service freight line from Elizabethport, east of this point (and the erstwhile Newark Bay Bridge), leaves that line, the Raritan Valley Line heads west-southwest, Two Main Tracks, CTC, maximum speed 60 mph for passenger trains and 40 mph for freight trains, on the connector to MP 15.9 and Track 2 thereafter, and 80/40 on Track 1 thereafter, past a road bridge overhead, crossovers south of the junction where the connector trails in, extra track to the east, a sign saying "Begin ATC", Cranford Junction, where the erstwhile Staten Island Railway once trailed in from the east, the passenger station (two high-level side platforms with umbrella sheds, depot below to hte east) at Cranford (MP 16.2), a through girder bridge over a street at the southwest end of the station, extra track to the east, a cantilever signal bridge, and the passenger station (two high-level sid platforms with umbrella sheds, depot below to hte east) at Garwood (MP 17.3).

The line continues past a bridge over a street, three extra tracks to the east, signals and crossovers at Clark (MP 18.2), where the Garwood Industrial Track heads away, a through girder bridge over a street, and the passenger station (two low-level side platforms with umbrella sheds, stone depot to the east, parking lots on both sides) at Westfield (MP 18.5),  turning southwest past a road bridge overhead, a bridge over a street, crossovers? at Scotch (MP 19.3), a road bridge overhead, the passenger station (two low-level side platforms, with footbridge, stone depot to the east, parking lots on both sides) at Fanwood (MP 20.6), two road bridges overhead, a bridge over a street, the passenger station (two low-level side platforms, stone depot to the east, parking lot to the east) at Netherwood (MP 21.8), two bridges over streets, a street to the east,  crossovers at Queen (MP 22.7), with a brick tower and extra track to the west, the passenger station (two high-level side platforms with umbrella sheds, brick depot to the east, parking lot to the east) at Plainfield (MP 23.0), a street to the west, five bridges over streets, a street to the east, a bridge over a street, and crossovers at Plain (MP 23.7).

There is a junction with the Rock Industrial Track on the east side at Grant Avenue (MP 24.1), a bridge over a streeta rail-served factory to the east, a bridge over a street, a formerly rail-served junk yard to the east, a formerly rail-served factory to the east, a bridge over a street, a formerly rail-served factory to the east, a bridge over a street, the passenger station (two low-level side platforms, with umbrella shed and brick depot to the east) at Dunellen (MP 25.9), a bridge over a street, a turn west-southwest, a grade crossing, the former Reading/B&O double track line (the Trenton Line) to the south, and a grade crossing over both lines, and then southwest again, a bridge over an angled river (with the line to the south doing likewise), a bridge over a street (ditto), a bridge over a river (ditto), Middlesex (MP 28.0), the two tracks to the south reducing to one, a rail-served factory to the north, crossovers at Brook (MP 30.0), a turn west-southwest, the passenger station (two low-level side platforms, brick depot to the north) at Bound Brook (MP 30.2), where there is a platform with umbrella shed and brick depot on the south side of the line to the south, and a two-track yard on the south side at Calco (MP 31.4), where there is a connector south (MP 31.8 to the former Reading/B&O line to West Trenton and Philadelphia, which turns away to the southwest,  and the Raritan Valley Line turns west.
