Calco to High Bridge

From the two-track yard on the south side at Calco (MP 31.4), where there is a connector south (MP 31.8 to the former Reading/B&O line to West Trenton and Philadelphia, which turns away to the southwest,  the Raritan Valley Line turns west, Two Main Tracks, CTC, maximum speed 80 mph for passenger trains and 40 mph for freight trains, past a grade crossing (Kosseler Avenue), a bridge over a river, a grade crossing (Van Dolen Avenue), a 70 mph speed restriction for passenger trains on Track 2, from MP 32.4 to MP 32.7, the passenger station (two low-level side platforms with brick shelter to the south) at Bridgestone (MP 32.9), where the line turns northwest, a bridge over a street just northwest of the station, a grade crossing, a spur trailing in from the north, a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph on Track 1 and 65 mph on Track 2, from MP 34.3 to MP 34.5, a spur heading away north, a grade crossing, signals, a road bridge overhead, extra track to the southwest, extra track to the northeast, and an old spur to the southwest.

There is a grade crossing, signals, a bridge over a street, a bridge over a stream, two bridges over streets, the passenger station (two low-level side platforms) at Somerville (MP 34.6), where the line turns just south of due west, there is a former line to the north, and an erstwhile Jersey Central line to Three Bridges once departed to the southwest, a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph on Track 1 and 65 mph on Track 2, from MP 35.1 to MP 35.6, a bridge over an angled street, a bridge over a street, a bridge over a highway, a grade crossing (Thornton Street), the passenger station (two low-level side platforms with umbrella sheds, depot set back to the south at Raritan (MP 35.8), a grade crossing at Anderson Street, crossovers, a bridge over a street, two extra tracks to the south, a ten track New Jersey Transit yard to the south at Boyd (MP 36.1), with shop buildings between the yard and the main line.

The line reduces to single track at the interlocking at Brad (MP 36.9), end of the yard, where the maximum speed becomes 60/30 and the line turns north, past a spur trailing in on the north side, a bridge over a major highway, a road to the east, an embankment in the woods, and a bridge over a river, northwest past a road bridge overhead, the passenger station (low-level platform to the south) at North Branch (MP 39.3), Intermediate Signals at MP 39.4, a grade crossing at Station Road (MP 39.4), a dirt-track grade crossing, a formerly rail-served factory to the north, west and then northwest, past extra track to the south, three grade crossings, a grade crossing at Flemington Road, the passenger station (low-level platform, stone depot, and parking lot to the south) at White House (MP 44.2), where the erstwhile Rockaway Valley Railroad once trailed in from the northeast.

There is a siding to the southwest, wooded hills to the west and southwest, and a grade crossing, and the line turns west past extra track to the south, with two former REA cars and lightweight car "1456, Eugene Field", the passenger station (low-level platform and stone depot to the south) at Lebanon (MP 48.0), a grade crossing west of the station, extra track with five more passenger cars, including "Imperial Sands" to the south, and four more cars to the north, northwest past a road bridge overhead, an angled road bridge overhead, dual angled road bridges overhead, the start of a controlled siding (30/25 on the siding) on the southwest side at Clinton (MP 49.7), a 45 mph passenger speed restriction, from MP 49.9 to MP 50.2, as the line climbs, a GG-1 on extra track to the southwest, a 50 mph passenger speed restriction, from MP 50.3 to MP 51.1, the passenger station (low-level platform to the southwest) at Annandale (MP 50.4), a bridge over a road, a dirt track grade crossing, and the end of the controlled siding at Arch (MP 52.1), a road to the north, and just west of due north, past signs about the end of ATC (going west), to the passenger station (low-level platform and wooden depot to the west) at High Bridge (MP 52.2), end of NJT service, where the maximum speed drops to 10 mph, and the end of track at MP 54.0, with an extra track to the east, at the station, where Jersey Central lines once continued northwest to Phillipsburg and northeast to Bartley, past a bridge over a road north of the station, in the village.
