Denville to Hackettstown

From the passenger station (two low-level side platforms on Morristown Line and south side platform on Boonton Line) at Denville (MP 36.4/34.2) and the junction (MP 36.5/34.3) between the electrified double track Morristown line, coming from the south, and the non-electrified Boonton Line, coming from the east,the Morristown Line continues west, Double Track, Rule 261, Automatic Block Signals, AC overhead electrification, maximum speed 60 mph for passenger trains and 40 mph for freight trains, past extra track to the south, a lake to the south, a bridge over an angled road, a turn southwest, with a 55 mph passenger speed restriction on Track 2, from MP 34.4 to MP 34.9, a turn just north of due west, with a 50 mph passenger speed restriction on Track 1 and 45 mph on Track 2, from MP 35.3 to MP 35.7, a road bridge overhead, a turn just south of due west, with a 55 mph passenger speed restriction from MP 35.7 to MP 36.1, a bridge over a stream, a road bridge overhead, two extra tracks to the south, a 55 mph passenger speed restriction, from MP 36.5 to MP 36.8, the interlocking at East Dover (MP 36.8), where the line becomes current-of-traffic (Rule 251), a road bridge overhead, a 55 mph passenger speed restriction, from MP 37.2 to MP 37.5, a ten track yard on the south side, and the crossovers and passenger station (high-level island platform) at Dover (MP 38.1), where the electrification ends (actually, at MP 38.7), there is a maintenance-of-way siding north of the station, a road bridge overhead (SR 46), a street to the north, and a bridge over a river.

The line turns northwest, with a 25 mph speed restriction, from MP 38.1 to MP 38.5, west with a 50 mph passenger speed restriction on Track 1, and 55 mph on Track 2, from MP 38.7 to MP 38.9, north, and northwest, with a 50 mph passenger speed restriction, from MP 39.3 to MP 39.7, to D&R Junction (MP 39.7), where a single track Dover & Rockaway Railway line trails in on the north side, west with a 50 mph passenger speed restriction, from MP 40.4 to MP 40.7, past a road bridge overhead, a pond to the north, a road bridge overhead, signals at MP 40.8, the handthrow crossover and junction with the D&R Railway, heading southwest at Chester Junction (MP 41.4), where the line turns west-southwest, with a 50 mph passenger speed restriction, from MP 43.8 to MP 45.1, past a road to the north, a bridge over a stream, the passenger station (two side high-level platforms) at Mount Arlington (MP 43.1), a bridge over a road, an angled road bridge carrying I-80 overhead, and the new Morris Junction (MP 45.2), where the line reduces to single track, Rule 261, with a bridge over a road and a second track on the north side through Lake Hopatcong Station to Port Morris Yard.

Truning northwest again, with a 45 mph passenger speed restriction on Track 1 and 50 mph on Track 2, from MP 45.4 to MP 45.8, the line passes the passenger station (north side low-level platform) at Lake Hopatcong (MP 45.4), and the old Morris Junction (MP 45.7), with the old tower to the north, where the erstwhile Lackawanna Cutoff line to Slateford Junction once headed northwest (and construction is proceeding, in 2010, to reopen it), while the present line turns southwest, with a 50/30 mph speed restriction, from MP 45.8 to MP 47.7, past a seven-track NJ Transit yard and office buildings on the north side, a 30 mph speed restriction, from MP 47.7 to MP 48.1, a track off to the north (a former Lackawanna branch to Branchville and Franklin), and a 25 mph speed restriction at Main Street grade crossing, Netcong, the  Control Point and passenger station (north side low-level platform, brick depot to the north) at Netcong (MP 48.0), a grade crossing at Love's Lane, a road bridge overhead, a pond to the south, a grade crossing, a grade crossing at the passenger station (south side low-level platform) at Mount Olive (MP 49.8), the old Morris canal to the north, two grade crossings, a grade crossing at a driveway, a river alongside to the north, in the woods, a bridge over the river, a grade crossing, a road bridge overhead, a spur to the Mars factory (MP 56.0), a grade crossing, a road alongside to the north, a grade crossing, the old platform location, and the passenger station (south side platform) at Hackettstown (MP 56.9), end of NJT service, and the division post at Bill (MP 58.0), where the line becomes the former Conrail Washington Secondary to Phillipsburg,
