Devon to Waterbury

From  the wye junction (60 mph passenger speed on the junction) at Devon (MP 60.7), with the restored tower in the middle of the wye, where the main line continues east-northeast, the Waterbury Branch turns away north, single track, Manual Block, with overall speed limit 59 mph for passenger trains and 40 mph for freights, but a local restriction of 10 mph through the wye tracks, past CP500 (MP 0.2), the north apex of the wye, where Yard Limits start, a turn north-northeast, along the east side of the river, MP 2.0, where Yard Limits end, MP 7.5, where the freight speed limit drops to 30 mph, a turn northwest, where the freight line from West Haven used to trail in on the east side, a passenger speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 7.7 and MP 8.1, a speed restriction of 25 mph between MP 8.1 and MP 8.9, the Block Limit Station at Hat (MP 8.7), a bridge over a river, and the passenger station at Derby (MP 8.9), north of which the Maybrook Line turns away west while the Waterbury Branch turns just east of due north.

There is a passenger speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 8.9 and MP 10.4, a bridge over the river, a turn just west of due north, a speed restriction of 25 mph between MP 10.4 and MP 11.2, the passenger station at Ansonia (MP 10.5), a gradual curve around to just east of due north, following the east bank of the river, with a passenger speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 11.2 and MP 12.0 and a passenger speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 12.0 and MP 12.3, after which full line speeds prevail, the passenger station at Seymour (MP 14.4), a speed restriction of 30/25 between MP 14.4 and MP 14.7 as the line bridges to the west side of the river, a passenger speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 14.7 and MP 14.9, a turn northeast and a bridge back to the east side of the river, a turn north-northwest, following the river bank, the Block Limit Station at Beak (MP 17.8), Beacon Falls (MP 17.8), and a bridge back to the west bank of the river, with a passenger speed restriction of 40 mph between MP 17.8 and MP 18.5.

The line turns north-northeast, following the west bank of the river, with a passenger speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 18.5 and MP 19.5, a passenger speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 19.5 and MP 20.3, and a passenger speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 20.3 and MP 21.8, turning north, following the river, past the passenger station at Naugatuck (MP 21.8), a passenger speed restriction of 40 mph between MP 21.8 and MP 22.6, Union City, a passenger speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 22.6 and MP 24.2, including a turn east-northeast, a bridge over the river, and a turn north along the east bank of the river, after which full line speeds prevail, the Block Limit Station at Eagle (MP 25.0), where Yard Limits start, a passenger speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 25.4 and MP 25.6, the 900 ft. siding at Waterbury Lower Siding (MP 25.6), where lines once trailed in from the southeast and the southwest, a speed restriction of 30/25 between MP 25.6 and MP 27.1, the passenger station at Waterbury (MP 26.9), where Yard Limits end and a branch once turned west to Watertown, and the Division Post at MP 27.1, where Metro-North ends and both the former New Haven freight line to Quarry, on the east side, and the Naugatuck Railroad line onward to Torrington, on the west side, start and separate.
