Summit to Denville

From a road bridge overhead at the passenger station (high-level island platform with umbrella shed between Wall Track (south side) and Track 2, high-level side side platform with umbrella shed for Track 3) at Summit (MP 20.1), a road bridge overhead as the line enters a trench with retaining walls, and the line turns southwest, past crossovers at P&D Junction and three road bridges overhead, to where the single track Gladstone Line splits away southwest, on the south side of the double track Morristown Line as the latter turns north-northeast, double track, current-of-traffic, (Rule 251), Automatic Block Signals (but being upgraded to Rule 562 (bi-directional cab signals), in 2010, as far as Dover), 25 kV 60Hz AC overhead catenary, maximum speed 40 mph for passenger trains and 25 mph for freight trains, with the passenger speed limit increasing to 55 mph on Track 1 and 50 mph on Track 2 at MP 20.5, to 60 mph on Track 2 at MP 21.1, and to 70 mph on Track 2 at MP 22.2, in a wooded area, past a bridge over a road, the west-facing spur off Track 1 at Atlantic Brick (MP 22.7), used for maintenance-of-way, a bridge over a road, the handthrow crossover at Court (MP 22.8), a bridge over a road, and MP 22.9, where the maximum passenger speed on Track 2 drops to 55 mph.

The line bridges over the river and turns northwest, past two bridges over roads, the passenger station (two low-level side platforms,  brick depot to the southwest) at Chatham (MP 23.5), where the maximum passenger speed becomes 60 mph on Track 1 and 70 mph on Track 2, a street to the southwest, two bridges over streets, extra track to the west, a road bridge overhead, a box on the east side at MP 24.4, the handthrow crossover (replaced by controlled crossover, in 2010) at Drew (MP 24.9), where Rule 562 operation to Bake began on October 18, 2011, a short siding on the south side, a bridge over a road, then a street to the southwest, a bridge over a road, the passenger station (two low-level side platforms with umbrella sheds, with stone depot to the west) at Madison (MP 25.5), a bridge over a street, a street to the west, three bridges over streets, signals, the formerly handthrow crossover at Park (MP 25.6), a box on the east sdie at MP 25.7, a road bridge overhead, and a bridge over a street.

The maximum passenger speed drops to 50 mph at MP 26.2, rises to 60 mph at MP 26.4, and  to 70 mph at MP 26.9, past a grade crossing, the passenger station (two low-level side platforms, brick depot to the west) at Convent (MP 27.7), a street to the west, and a bridge over a street, dropping to 60 mph at MP 28.5,, past a grade crossing, rising to 70 mph on Track 2 at MP 28.9, past a road bridge overhead and a bridge over a divided highway, and dropping to 50 mph at MP 29.6, past a bridge over a street intersection, and the passenger station (two low-level side platforms, brick depot to the west) at Morristown (MP 29.8), where the line turns north, rising to 60 mph on Track 1 and 65 mph on Track 2 at MP 29.9, past a bridge over a street, extra track to the west, a bridge over a street, the crossover and junction with the Morristown & Erie Railway, trailing in on the east side at Baker (MP 30.0), a bridge over a street, the west-facing spur off Track 1 at Dairypak (MP 31.0), dropping to 60 mph on Track 2 at MP 31.2, in a wooded area, and rising to 70 mph on Track 2 at MP 31.5.

There is an abandoned east-facing spur off Track 2 at Tenco (MP 31.5), the passenger station (two low-level side platforms, brick depot to the west) at Morris Plains (MP 32.0), a bridge over a street, the east-facing spur off Track 2 at Greystone (MP 32.1), used for maintenance-of-way, and the erstwhile handthrow crossover in a wooded area at Warner (MP 32.2), before the maximum speed drops to 60 mph on Track 2 at MP 33.1, and to 50 mph on both tracks at MP 33.5, rising to 60 mph on Track 1 and 70 mph on Track 2 at MP 33.7, dropping to 40 mph on both tracks at MP 34.4, and rising to 45 mph on Track 1 and 50 mph on Track 2 at MP 34.7, past a road bridge overhead, a lake to the southwest, a grade crossing, a street to the west, and a grade crossing.

At the passenger station (east side low-level platform only) at Mount Tabor (MP 35.7D), where the line curves north-northwest and then north-northeast, the maximum passenger speed rises to 55 mph, dropping to 40 mph at MP 36.0, and to 30 mph at MP 36.2, for the curve west (where an erstwhile line once went north), past a grade crossing, the passenger station (two low-level side platforms on Morristown Line and south side platform on Boonton Line) at Denville (MP 36.4/34.2), and  the junction with the Boonton Line, coming from just south of due east.
