Summit to Gladstone

From the passenger station at Summit (MP 20.1), there is a road bridge overhead as the line enters a trench with retaining walls, and the line turns southwest, past crossovers at P&D Junction and three road bridges overhead, to where the double track Morristown Line turns north-northeast, the single track Gladstone Line splits away southwest, Rule 261, Automatic Block Signals, 25 kV 60Hz AC overhead catenary, maximum speed 60 mph for passenger trains and 40 mph for freight trains, past a 50 mph passenger speed restriction on curves from MP 20.5 to MP 21.1, a bridge over a road, a road bridge overhead, a Control Point at West Summit (MP 21.0), the passenger station (platform and brick depot to the south) at New Providence (MP 21.8), a stream to the south in a wooded area, Intermediate Signals, a bridge over an angled road, and a bridge over a stream.

There is a turn west-southwest, with a 45 mph passenger speed restriction on curves from MP 22.4 to MP 22.8, past a grade crossing, an embankment, a bridge over a road, a 25 mph speed restriction for eastward movement from MP 22.9 to MP 23.15, and a 50 mph passenger speed restriction for westward movement, from MP 22.9 to MP 23.3, and for eastward movement from MP 23.15 to MP 23.3, a grade crossing, the 1,070 ft. siding and passenger station (two side platforms with brick depot to the south) at Murray Hill (MP 23.4), a wooded area, housing in the woods, and a grade crossing.

The line turns just south of due west, with a 35 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 24.7 to MP 25.0 and a 40 mph passenger speed restriction on the curve from MP 25.5 to MP 25.8, past a grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing, a west-facing extra track to the south, the 650 ft. siding and passenger station (north-side platform) at Berkeley Heights (MP 25.8), a 50 mph passenger speed restriction on the curve, from MP 26.0 to MP 26.2, a bridge over the river, a wooded area, a grade crossing, the passenger station (south-side platform) at Gillette (MP 27.1), a grade crossing in the woods, the 1,080 ft. south-side siding and passenger station (north-side platform) at Stirling (MP 28.5), a grade crossing in the woods, a 45 mph passenger speed restriction on the curve from MP 29.9 to MP 30.4, two grade crossings, the erstwhile 1,270 ft. siding and extant passenger station (north side platform) at Millington (MP 30.1), with a 25 mph speed restriction for eastward trains at the grade crossing at Pond Hill Road (MP 30.5).

There is a turn northwest, past a wooded area and a bridge over the river, north-northwest, past a grade crossing and the line running on a ledge on a hillside to the west, and west-northwest, with a 50 mph passenger speed restriction on the curve from MP 30.9 to MP 31.1, past a road bridge overhead, a bridge over a road, a 1,210 ft. north-side siding at Lyons Siding (MP 31.0), a 45 mph passenger speed restriction on the curve from MP 31.5 to MP 32.0, the passenger station (low-level south-side platform) at Lyons (MP 31.7), as the line turns just west of due north, a grade crossing, a bridge over a road, a cemetery to the west, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing, the passenger station (low-level platform and stucco depot  to the west) at Basking Ridge (MP 33.6), and a through-girder bridge over a divided road.

The line curves around to southwest, with a 50 mph passenger speed restriction on the curve from MP 33.8 to MP 34.5, past a cutting, a road bridge overhead, the 900 ft. south-side siding and passenger station (platform and brick depot to the north) at Bernardsville (MP 34.8), a 25 mph speed restriction on Ferrante's Crossing, Bernardsville (within the siding), an east-facing spur on the south side, a dirt track grade crossing, a 45 mph passenger speed restriction on curves from MP 35.4 to MP 36.4, two grade crossings, Intermediate Signals, Mine Brook, a 20 mph speed restriction for most locomotive-hauled trains (30 or 40 for others) on the bridge over the stream at MP 37.9, a 50 mph passenger speed restriction on the curve from  from MP 38.6 to MP 38.9, as the line turns just south of due west, a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing, the passenger station (low-level platform to the south) at Far Hills (MP 39.1), a 910 ft. siding, a 50 mph passenger speed restriction for eastward trains approaching the SR 202 grade crossing, an embankment, and a road to the south.

The line turns north, with a 45 mph passenger speed restriction on the curves from MP 39.1 to MP 40.2, past a river to the west in the woods, and a 10 mph speed restriction for locomotives (may have been raised when the bridge was replaced) on the through-truss Hog Back bridge (MP 40.13), over that river, northwest, past a bridge over a stream, and then north again, with a 50 mph passenger speed restriction on the curve from MP 40.2 to MP 41.3, past a grade crossing at Holland Avenue, the passenger station (east-side platform and wooden depot) at Peapack (MP 41.3), a grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, the split into two tracks at East Gladstone (MP 41.9), two yard tracks on each side of the main line, then two more on the south side, ending before those on the north side end, another one on the south side leaving before those on the north side rejoin, with a split having one track running parallel to the main, but without a platform, and a 5 mph speed restriction over Hills Crossing, 300 ft. east (south) of the passenger station (east side platform and depot) at Gladstone (MP 42.2), end of the line.
