Monroe to Hamlet

From the junction with the Charlotte sub., trailing in on the north side of the Monroe sub., at South Monroe (MP 306.2), where the north-side RC lead and the north-side Monroe Yard start, the line heads east, single track, Yard Limits, maximum speed 50 mph but local 30 mph speed restriction to MP 306.1, past the Ligle Lead and the six track Monroe Yard on the north side, a 40 mph speed restriction, from MP 306.1 to MP 302.9, the north end of the yard at North Monroe (MP 305.3), the end of the RC Lead at Richardson Creek (MP 303.9), where Yard Limits end and CTC, ABS resumes, MP 302.9, where the maximum speed rises to 60 mph, a dual-ended south-side spur and west-facing spurs on the south side of it, at Camp Sutton (MP 302.6), a dual-ended north-side spur at Golden Grain (MP 302.1), west-facing north-side spurs at Pilgram Pride (MP 301.5), Wingate, a House Track at MP 295.9, the 10,101 ft. south-side siding, from South Marshville (MP 295.4), past an east-facing north-side spur at Alfa Plastic (MP 294.7), to North Marshville (MP 293.3), a detector at "Marshville" (MP 292.9), Peachland, a 45 mph speed restriction, from MP 289.4 to MP 288.8, and the 10,191 ft. south-side siding, from South Polkton (MP 287.1), past east-facing and west-facing south-side spurs, to North Polkton (MP 285.1).

The line turns curvily just south of due east, with a 55 mph speed restriction, from MP 284.2 to MP 283.9, past Russellville, a 50 mph speed restriction, from MP 280.8 to MP 280.6, a 45 mph speed restriction, from MP 280.6 to MP 280.3, and a 50 mph speed restriction, from MP 280.3 to MP 277.5, where the full line speed prevails, past a dual-ended south-side spur, with a west-facing spur on the south side of it, from South Wadesboro (MP 278.1) to North Wadesboro (MP 277.5), where a southwest quadrant connector once departed, the junction with the Winston-Salem South Bound, trailing in on the north side at WS Junction (MP 277.1), and once continuing to the south, turning curvily southeast, past the 10,370 ft. south-side siding, from South Lilesville (MP 273.5) to North Lilesville (MP 271.5), where the siding becomes a lead into Gravelton Yard, a 50 mph speed restriction, from MP 272.6 to MP 272.4, a 55 mph speed restriction, from MP 272.4 to MP 270.4, the four-track Gravelton Yard on the south side (MP 270.5), a 40 mph speed restriction, from MP 270.4 to MP 267.3, a detector at "Pee Dee" (MP 268.2), a 45 mph speed restriction, from MP 267.3 to MP 255.6, the 10,274 ft. south-side siding, from South Pee Dee (MP 266.8), past an east-facing south-side spur, to North Pee Dee (MP 264.9), and a bridge over the Pee Dee River.

A turn east-northeast leads to Cordova, a west-facing north-side spur at Vulcan Material (MP 262.0), the east-facing south-side Rockingham Spur (MP 260.1), where there was once a crossing with the erstwhile Rockingham Railroad, the 2,500 ft. west-facing south side South Storage at Rockingham (MP 259.5), and the 2,600 ft. dual-ended north-side North Storage at Rockingham (MP 259.5), where the line turns curvily southeast, past the start of Two Main Tracks at West Hamlet (MP 255.6), where a 25 mph speed restriction starts on Track 1 and a 40 mph speed restriction on Track 2, a crossover at Raleigh Street (MP 253.7), where a 25 mph speed restriction starts on Track 2, and Monroe Junction Track 2 (MP 253.3), where the East-West Connection departs on the south side and continues across the flat crossing with the S-line, while Track 2 curves north (alongside the curving Track 1) to join with the S-Line, at Monroe Junction (MP 253.2), where Track 1 has curved around north onto the west side of the S-Line (here, Track 2).

There are crossovers at Hamlet Avenue (MP 253.4), the south end of Williams Yard, on the east side, at Warmac Interlocking (MP 252.7), where the speed restriction rises to 45 mph for passenger trains and 40 mph for freights on Track 2, MP 251.3, where the speed restriction on Track 2 ends, a south-facing west-side spur at Seaboard (MP 251.0), a south-facing west-side spur at Trinity-Owens Lead (MP 250.6), Track 1 trailing into Track 2 at Diesel Shop (MP 250.5), where the 25 mph speed restriction ends, and the south end of Hamlet Yard, on the east side, at Tex (MP 250.1).
