The speed limit falls to 40 mph at MP 279.0, where the main line turns abruptly west where a line from Mullins once trailed in from the east at a wye, past Intermediate Signals at Pee Dee (MP 280.1), a through truss bridge across the Peedee River, "WN" (formerly "Tower") (MP 282.8), where double track starts again and a spur from Stone Container trails in on the south side, MP 283.3, where full line speeds resume among the trees, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals and the north-facing spur at Winona (MP 283.8), a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at Mars Bluff, dual road bridges overhead, two grade crossings, Intermediate Signals at "Highway 327", Weeks, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 292.2, where CTC ends, Yard Limits start, and the speed limit falls to 15 mph, and an old depot on the south/'east' side to the east/'north' of the current depot, and enters Florence station (MP 292.7), with its depot and platform with umbrella shed on the south/'east' side, and a track east of the main. The 12-track Florence yard and division point is immediately adjacent to the station, mostly to its east/'north', on the north/'west' side of the track, reducing to three yard tracks, west/'south' of the station, where there was once a flat crossing and connectors with an SAL line.

Double track resumes and passenger speeds on the west track fall to 70 mph at Litches River (MP 306.0), past a dirt road alongside to the east, a divided road alongside to the west, Intermediate Signals at North Coward, two grade crossings, a street alongside to the east, a grade crossing, Coward (MP 309.4), "Coward" (MP 310.0), where single track starts again and full line speeds resume, two dirt track grade crossings, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at Scranton, a road alongside to the east, three grade crossings, a detector at MP 314.4, a road bridge overhead, Intermediate Signals at "Southern States", a spur to the eponymous industry off to the east, a turn to just west of due south, MP 315.7, where the speed limit falls to 50 mph, a street alongside to the west entering Lake City (MP 316.1), three grade crossings in town, an old brick depot on the west side, three grade crossings, South Lake City (MP 317.5), where double track resumes, with full line speeds on the east track, and 70 mph passenger speed limit on the west track (with freight speeds 60 mph on that track), a road alongside to the west, two grade crossings, a spur to a petrochemical facility on the east side, a grade crossing, and North Cades (MP 321.0), where single track starts again and full line speeds resume.
