After crossing the Roanoke River on a single track deck girder bridge from North Weldon (MP 81.9), where the single track starts and the speed limit is 40 mph (continuing to MP 83.6), the line passes above a short segment of former SAL line, an old depot down below the embankment on the east side, the detectors at Weldon (MP 82.6), the former SAL trailing in on the east side via the three track Weldon Yard on the east side. Double track resumes at MP 83.1, CTC past four grade crossings (including Tower Line Avenue at MP 83.6), a road alongside to the east, and the south end of Weldon Yard, a single track trailing in on the east side, at MP 83.8, where there are crossovers, to MP 84.3, where rule 251 current-of-traffic ABS double-track starts. Overall speed limits are 79 mph for passenger trains, 70 mph for intermodal trains, and 60 mph for all other trains.
The line continues past signals and crossovers at South Weldon, MP 87, a grade crossing, MP 88, and the end of double track at MP 89.0, turning south-southeast past a grade crossing (SR 403) and a road alongside to the west, with speed limit 70 mph for passenger trains from MP 89.6 to MP 91.8, past Intermediate Signals at Halifax (MP 89.9), the road on the west side moving away, and a bridge over a stream or river, and then just west of due south past Intermediate Signals at Pender, where a line to Parmele once left to the east-southeast, two dirt track grade crossings, Intermediate Signals, two dirt track grade crossings, a bridge over a stream, the resumption of double track at Delmar, two grade crossings in town, a street alongside to the east, and Intermediate Signals at Enfield (MP 100.9), where there is an old depot on the west side and the speed limit is 65 mph from MP 100.4 to MP 101.9 by city ordinance.
There is a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals (and detectors?) at MP 102.9, a grade crossing, a street alongside to the west, extra track on the east side at the Intermediate Signals at Bricks, a grade crossing, a street alongside to the west, a road bridge overhead, four grade crossings in town, the end of double track at Whitakers (MP 107.0), a detector at MP 107.6, a track trailing in from silos on the east side, a street alongside to the east, two grade crossings in town, Intermediate Signals at MP 109.8, extra track on the east side, a road bridge overhead, grain elevators on the east side, the resumption of double track at Battleboro (MP 111.3), a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 114.5/6, a grade crossing, detectors at MP 115.3, a road bridge overhead, Intermediate Signals at Charlie Baker (MP 117.3), a spur heading away to industry on the west side and on the east side, dual road bridges overhead, a bridge over a road, and a through truss bridge over a river.
The speed limit is 40 mph from MP 118.2 to MP 121.1 by Rocky Mount city ordinance, past six grade crossings in town, streets alongside to the east and west, crossovers and an Amtrak station (brick depot and platform with umbrella shed on the west side) at Rocky Mount (MP 119.6), where there is a bay at the southwest end with a stuffed-and-mounted private car (ACL 303) and baggage car, a road bridge overhead, with a signal bridge, turnouts and crossovers at MP 120.1 (DI Interlocking), where a branch from Spring Horse trails in from the west and a line from Parmele trails in from the east, with speed limit 15 mph on the turnouts and crossovers, a grade crossing, three yard tracks on the west side, and a locomotive layover point on the east side, and the sixteen track Rocky Mount Yard lies on the east side of the line, with a pedestrian bridge overhead halfway along the yard, which then has 8-10 tracks, to a signal bridge and grade crossing at South Rocky Mount (MP 121.2).
