Seminole Connection (Jacksonville) to Auburndale

From the wye, with its north apex at Beaver Street (MP 642.5), in the vicinity of the former Jacksonville terminal station, where the Nahunta subdivision, Sanford subdivision, and Wildwood subdivision all meet, with the route of the former SAL once crossing the north apex on the flat, extra north-facing tracks to the west, a viaduct over a canal, and speed limit 15 mph for passenger trains and 10 mph for freight trains on the wye, the former ACL Orlando route heads southwest, double track, CTC, with overall speed limit 79 mph for passenger trains, 70 mph for intermodal trains, and 60 mph for freights, with a local restriction of 15 mph through the wye, past a flat crossing with a Florida East Coast yard lead at MP 642.8 and one with a CSX yard lead at MP 642.9 as far as MP 643.0, a grade crossing, an angled grade crossing, and 20 mph to MP 644.8 (with only 700 feet between MP 643.0 and MP 644.0), past a grade crossing, a wide road bridge overhead, two angled grade crossings, a grade crossing, a road bridge overhead, Intermediate Signals, Edgewood, an angled grade crossing, and roads alongside to the east and west, and turning south, 30 mph to MP 647.1 on the west track and MP 648.2 on the east track, and 50 mph to MP 648.2 on the west track (and to MP 649.1 on single track), past two grade crossings, a road still alongside to the east, a road ramp overhead, a road bridge overhead, St. Johns, and a grade crossing,  to the end of double track at MP 648.2.

There are two grade crossings, the road to the east turning away, a grade crossing, a road alongside to the east again, a grade crossing,  a signaled through-truss movable bridge at McGirts Creek between MP 649.1 and MP 649.2, with passenger speed restriction 50 mph and freight speed restriction 45 mph, where the line turns south-southeast along the St, Johns River, with a speed restriction of 65 mph between MP 649.2 and MP 650.6, and then just west of due south, with a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 650.6 and MP 651.9, past Intermediate Signals and a detector at MP 651.1, after which full line speeds prevail, past a road still alongside to the east, the 10,140 ft. east side siding (25 mph) at Yukon (MP 654.0), with a spur on the east side to Jacksonville Naval Air Station, across the road, two grade crossings, and the road on the east side moving away, all within the siding, a grade crossing, dual road bridges overhead, and three grade crossings.

The line turns south at Reeds, with a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 655.2 and MP 657.0, past the north-facing spur (three tracks to the east, with private cars) at Orange Park (MP 656.8), where it turns curvily southwest along Doctors Inlet, with a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 657.0 and MP 657.2, past a grade crossing with a divided street at MP 657.0, a dirt road grade crossing, a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 657.2 and MP 658.5, Intermediate Signals, a cemetery to the west, a grade crossing, a road alongside to the west, and a speed restriction of 55 mph between MP 658.5 and MP 660.2 as the line turns south, past two grade crossings, north-facing signals at Peoria, two grade crossings, a bridge over a stream, a speed restriction of 65 mph between MP 660.2 and MP 662.8, four grade crossings, Intermediate Signals at MP 661.4,  Doctors Inlet, two grade crossings, a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 662.8 and MP 665.6, a grade crossing and Intermediate Signals, after which full line speeds prevail.

The line turns curvily south-southeast, with a road alongside to the west, bridging over an inlet on a deck girder bridge, and passing the 10,180 ft. east side siding (25 mph on the siding) at Solite (MP 666.9), with a grade crossing within the siding, a grade crossing, a bridge over a creek, a road alongside to the west, two grade crossings, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals and a detector, all at MP 670.2, Russell, Magnolia Springs, a grade crossing, a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 672.1 and MP 673.0, two grade crossings, Intermediate Signals and a north-facing spur at Green Cove Springs (MP 672.5), where the 3 ft. gauge Western Railway of Florida once headed west, three grade crossings, the dual-ended spur at Duroc (MP 673.3), dual road bridges overhead, Walkill, Leno, a spur from the west trailing in, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 678.x,  the north-facing spur on the west side at Titan (MP 680.0), the 10,182 ft. west side siding (25 mph on the siding) at West Tocoi (MP 682.2), with a grade crossing within the siding, still generally along the west side of the St. Johns River.

The line turns just west of due south, past Intermediate Signals, Intermediate Signals and a detector at MP 688.6, two grade crossings, signals at Bostwick (MP 690.8), where a spur to the Seminole Electric Power Plant on the river heads off on the east side, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 690.9 and MP 693.6, a box on the westr side at MP 691.75, a dirt track grade crossing, a divided road (US 17) alongside to the west, an embankment, a grade crossing with County Road w209, Teasdale, a gated dirt track grade crossing, and a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 693.6 and MP 694.1.

There is a through girder movable bridge at Rice Creek between MP 694.1 and MP 694.2, with speed restriction 20 mph, as the line turns south, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 694.2 and MP 697.5, the 9,903 ft. west side siding (25 mph) at Pecan (MP 695.1), where a spur to Georgia Pacific heads southwest, and there is a four track yard to the west, and a grade crossing, all within the siding, a turn south-southeast, a speed restriction of 30 mph between MP 697.5 and MP 698.8, through Palatka, a turn south, where a Georgia Southern & Florida line once trailed in from the west, three grade crossings, one of which is at Washington Street (MP 697.6), Palatka (MP 698.0), where a Florida Southern line once trailed in from the west and a Florida East Coast line once trailed in from the east, there is a passenger station with a painted brick depot to the east, a spuir trails in on the west side, and an Oklawaha Valley Railroad line once headed southwest, three road crossings, one of which is at St. Johns Street (MP 698.2), a bridge over a street, and two grade crossings.

The line turns west-southwest, past a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 698.8 and MP 700.3, Lindy, a grade crossing,  a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 700.3 and MP 700.7, a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 700.7 and MP 702.4, a grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, and a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 702.4 and MP 703.4, turning south past north-facing signals at the north end of a through truss movable bridge over the St. Johns River at Buffalo Bluff between MP 703.4 and MP 703.6, with a speed restriction of 50 mph, and south-facing signals at the south end,  after which full line speeds prevail as the line turns south-southeast, past a dirt track grade crossing, a road alongside to the west that turns across a grade crossing, a grade crossing, the 10,200 ft. east side siding (25 mph) at Satsuma (MP 708.1), a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 708.7 and MP 709.0, and Sisco.

There is a grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals and  a detector at MP 711.9, Pomona Park, a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 713.9 and MP 714.2, four grade crossings, Intermediate Signals, Lake Como, a dirt road grade crossing,  the 10,200 ft. west side siding (25 mph) at Huntington (MP 716.7), with two ponds and a dirt track alongside to the west, a grade crossing, and a road alongside to the west, all within the siding, a dirt road grade crossing, a pond to the west, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, Crescent City, a dirt road grade crossing, a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 720.5 and MP 722.2, Denver, a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 722.2 and MP 723.0, a dirt road grade crosisng, a dirt track grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at "County Line", Hammond, a grade crossing, a pond to the west, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, covered produce beds to the west, a lake off to the west, the 10,183 ft. east side siding (25 mph) at Seville (MP 726.6), with four  grade crossings and a dirt track grade crossing within the siding, and Bakersburg.

The line continues past a dirt road grade crossing, an angled grade crossing in the woods, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing, a speed restriction of 65 mph between MP 731.6 and MP 732.2, through Pierson, three grade crossings in town, the road alongside to the west ending, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 733.4 and MP 733.8, a turn southeast, a grade crossing, a detector at MP 734.7, Eldridge, a grade crossing, the 10,088 ft. east side siding (25 mph on the siding) at Barberville (MP 737.9), Intermediate Signals at MP 741.x, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 741.4 and MP 742.0 as the line turns south, with a grade crossing on the turn, a road to the west turning across a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 743.x ("Lake Woodruff"), a grade crossing, a dirt track to the west, DeLeon Springs, a lake (not visible) on the west side of the line, Glenwood, and Highland Park, end of the lake.

There are Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, a turn just east of due south, the 10,207 ft. west side siding (25 mph) at DeLand (MP 750.0), where a narrow-gauge line from Deland Landing once trailed in on the west side, with a road bridge overhead within the siding, an old spur on the west side, a passenger station with brick depot and platform with umbrella shed to the east, a grade crossing, a spur curving away east (north leg of wye?),  and a line from Stetson trailing in on the east side, a wooded area, a dirt road alongside to the east, Beresford, with a small lake alongside to the west and a dirt track grade crossing to lakeside, a dirt road grade crossing, a speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 751.1 and MP 751.5, Intermediate Signals at MP 752.x, Fatio, where the line turns south, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 752.8 and MP 753.1, a bridge over a road, a road alongside to the west, a path alongside to the west, and Orange City, where an FEC line from New Smyrna Beach once crossed on the flat, heading for Blue Springs just to the west.

The line continues south, past a detector at MP 755.4, a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 757.0 and MP 757.2, Intermediate Signals, a speed restriction of 65 mph for passenger trains and 60 mph for freights between MP 760.1 and MP 761.5 as the line curves south-southeast past the 11,289 ft. east side siding at Benson Junction (MP 760.8), with a lake alongside to the west, where an FEC line once headed east, and a grade crossing, and south again, with a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 761.5 and MP 763.1 past a grade crossing, a power plant on the west side,  Valdez, Intermediate Signals, a through truss bridge between MP 763.1 and MP 763.2, with speed restriction 50 mph,  over the eponymous lake at Lake Monroe, a highway to the east, a continuing speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 763.2 and MP 765.9 as the line turns southeast, with four highway bridges overhead on the turn, along the southwest shore of eponymous lake, past Orange Boulevard briefly alongside to the west, Rand Yard (three tracks remaining on the west side), a speed restriction of 20 mph between MP  765.9 and MP 766.8, and the 15,228 ft. west side siding, along the former yard, at Sanford (MP 766.3), where there is a road bridge overhead, spurs into a yard to the west, the southern Auto Train terminal to the east, and a passenger station (depot located, on the east side of the line, east side and center platforms), with setout sput and a critter on the west side, all within the siding, with a former South Florida line heading east at Sanford Junction, and an ACL line  once headed west to Tavares,  from the same location, and the overall speed limit for intermodal trains falls to 60 mph.

There is a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 766.8 and MP 772.0 (with only 749 feet between MP 768.0 and MP 771.0), a grade crossing, an angled grade crossing, a grade crossing, a road to the west, a wide grade crossing, dual road bridges overhead, and a wide grade crossing, Lake Mary, and the line turns curvily south-southwest, with a speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 772.0 and MP 773.5, after which full line speeds prevail, past Old Lake Highway to the west, a grade crossing, a grade crossing as the road turns away, a divided grade crossing, a turn more to the south, an angled grade crossing, a bridge over a culvert, a detector at MP 776.1, an angled divided grade crossing, a turn more to the south-southwest, a divided road to the west, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 777.2, an angled divided grade crossing and an angled divided grade crossing orthogonal to the previous one, a speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 777.3 and MP 777.9, through Seminole County, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 777.5, an angled divded grade crossing, a grade crossing, a lake to the west, a speed restriction of 60 mph for passenger trains and 50 mph for freights between MP 777.9 and 780.3, two grade crossings, a divded grade crossing, a street to the west, and a grade crossing.

The line turns curvily south at the 7,811 ft. east side siding at Longwood (MP 778.4), with a grade crossing within the siding, past the north-facing spur at Casselberry (MP 779.2), a lake alongside to the west, a speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 780.3 and MP 782.0, a wide road bridge overhead, Altamonte Springs, a pedestrian bridge overhead, a grade crossing, a speed restriction of 40 mph between MP 782.0 and MP 784.3, through Maitland, Intermediate Signals, two grade crossings, a speed restriction of 35 mph between MP 784.3 and MP 785.5, in Winter Park,  an acute angled grade crossing as the line turns south-southeast, a street to the west, an acute angled grade crossing, a pedestrian crossing, MP 784.7, where a stretch of double track, Rule D251 current-of-traffic, begins, a grade crossing, a through girder bridge over a divided road, a speed restriction of 25 mph between MP 785.5 and MP 785.9, in Winter Park, Intermediate Signals, five grade crossings, Winter Park (MP 785.6), where there is a passenger station (brick depot and platform with umbrella shed to the west), an SAL branch once headed east, and the line turns south-southwest.

There is a speed restriction of 35 mph between MP  785.9 and MP 787.1, in Winter Park, with the route of that SAL line running just to the east as both lines curve south, past two grade crossings, a one-way street to the west, three grade crossings, a speed restriction of 25 mph starting at MP 787.1 and through Orlando, Intermediate Signals, two grade crossings, a street to the west, two grade crossings, a street to the west, two grade crossings, a street to the west, a grade crossing, an angled grade crossing, a stub of that SAL line trailing in on the east side, five grade crossings, the ex-SAL Orlando sub. trailing in on the west side, four grade crossings, a road bridge overhead, a street intersection overhead, a wide road bridge overhead, a grade crossing, a street to the west, two grade crossings, the 6,813 ft. west side siding at Orlando (MP 790.4), with three more tracks on the west side, where there is a passenger station (depot and platform with umbrella shed to the east), a grade crossing, a grade crossing with a divided highway, two extra tracks to the west, a spur curving away west, two grade crossings, a spur trailing in on the west side, three grade crossings, a road crossing at Kaley Avenue (MP 791.8),where single track, CTC, resumes, three extra tracks to the west, a road bridge overhead, and MP 792.3, after which full line speeds prevail.

The line continues south, with a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph and a freight restriction of 45 mph between MP 793.6 and MP 795.5, through Pine Castle, from a road crossing at Holden Avenue (MP 793.6), past another grade crossing, to a road crossing at Lancaster Road (MP 795.5), past  a spur on the east side and a spur on the west side to the Orlando Central Park Industrial Track on the west side, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing, the 6,989 ft. east side siding at Taft (MP 798.4), with two tracks to the west, several road bridges overhead, a spur on the west side and a wye on the east side with the line east to the Orlando Utilities Stanton Power Plant, a grade crossing and a detector at MP 801.0, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, Flamingo, a spur curving away west, dual road bridges overhead, a passenger speed restriction of 65 mph between MP 804.2 and MP 807.4, a road bridge overhead, Intermediate Signals, two grade crossings, a turn southwest and then back south again, a speed restriction of 40 mph between MP 807.4 and MP 808.8, through Kissimmee, three grade crossings, a former flat crossing with an erstwhile ACL line, and  the a passenger station (brick and wooden depot and platform with umbrella shed to the west) at Kissimmee (MP 808.0), and the Monument Avenue grade crossing (MP 808.1) at the south end of the station

There is a pedestrian crossing, a grade crossing, a dirt track to the west, a dirt track grade crossing, a grade crossing at a road intersection, dual road bridges overhead, a bridge over a culvert, the 8,099 ft. west side siding at Kissimmee, where the line turns southwest, with a bridge over a culvert and a road alongside to the west, within the siding, the south-facing Suckles Spur, after which full line speeds prevail, a grade crossing, a grade crossing with a divided road, two grade crossings, Intermediate Signals, a passenger speed restriction of 65 mph between MP 812.3 and MP 812.6, as the line turns west at Campbell, a bridge over a stream, a spur curving away west, an angled grade crossing, a turn just west of due south, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing, a detector at MP 819.8, woodland and scrub, a spur curving away west, Loughmann, the north-facing spur for Standard Slag & Gravel on the east side at Vertagreen (MP 821.3), a speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 824.6 and MP 825.5, through Davenport, a grade crossing, and the 4,310 ft. east side siding at Davenport (MP 824.8).

The line continues past a passenger speed restriction of 65 mph between MP 825.5 and MP 825.8, a road to the west, three grade crossings, the 5,870 ft. east side siding at Haines City (MP 829.4), where an ACL line once headed south (on the east side), with a grade crossing, a spur trailing in from the west, an old depot to the east, and a grade crossing, all within the siding, a speed restriction of 40 mph between MP 829.4 and MP 830.0, through Haines City, as the line turns west, and then west-southwest, past a grade crossing, a grade crossing at a wide road bridge overhead, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, two dirt road grade crossings, Intermediate Signals, Lake Alfred (MP 835.6, where the four-mile Lake Alfred Spur heads south, a speed restriction of 50 mph between MP 835.8 and MP 836.3, through Lake Alfred, three grade crossings, a spur on the north side trailing in, a grade crossing, a passenger speed restriction of 65 mph between MP 837.2 and MP 838.1, a spur trailing in on the north side, a grade crossing, a lake to the north, a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 838.1 and MP 838.4, a street alongside to the north, the 4,887 ft. north side siding at Auburndale (MP 839.7), with two grade crossings within the siding, a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 839.9 and MP 841.0, four grade crossings, and the wye with the Miami sub. on the south side, where an SAL main line used to arrive from the north and make a flat crossing (MP 840.9), as the Lakeland sub. continues west, with a north-south road bridge in the middle of the wye, across the east leg, and an east-west grade crossing on the east leg and the west leg (or residual north-south straight).
