Yemassee to Savannah

From Yemassee (MP 443.0), where there is a passenger station (brick depot and platform to the west) and a grade crossing, and a line from Port Royal trails in from the south-southeast. the double track, CTC, line heads south-southwest, with overall speed limit 79 mph for passenger trains, 70 mph for intermodal trains, and 60 mph for freights, with a local restriction of 55/45 on the east track, past Intermediate Signals at South Yemassee, MP 445.0, where a local restriction of 70 mph on the east track resumes, a grade crossing, Kress, a grade crossing, dual road bridges overhead, MP 446.6, where single track starts, Intermediate Signals at Tall City River, in the woods, a bridge over the eponymous river, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at Coosawhatchie, Bashan, Intermediate Signals in the woods, a dirt track grade crossing, North Telco (MP 455.6), where double track resumes, with a passenger speed limit of 70 mph on the west track, a dirt road grade crossing, a road alongside to the east, and a dirt track grade crossing.

There are Intermediate Signals at North Ridgeland, a road bridge overhead, a grade crossing, Ridgeland (MP 459.3), a grade crossing, South Ridgeland (MP 460.6), where single track starts again and full line speeds resume,  a detector at MP 462.0, Intermediate Signals at Okatee, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a bridge over a stream, North Hardeeville (MP 470.0), where double track resumes, in the woods, with a passenger speed limit of 70 mph on the east track, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, Intermediate Signals at Hardeeville (MP 473.9), where the line turns southwest a Southern line once trailed in from the north (and the rump still trails in, a spur heads away on the west side, and the Hutchinson Island Spur heads away on the east side, a dirt road grade crossing, detectors at MP 474.1, Intermediate Signals at Hutchinson Island, dual road bridges overhead, Sand Island (MP 477.8), where single track starts again and full line speeds resume, southbound signals at MP 478.2, where the speed limit drops to 30 mph, and a bridge over drainage.

Crossing the Savannah River from South Carolina into Georgia on a multi-span through truss drawbridge (one moveable span) at MP 479.3, the line passes northbound signals at MP 480.1, where full line speeds resume, Chatham (MP 480.8), where double track resumes, a grade crossing, detectors at MP 482.5, Intermediate Signals at O-Leary,  and dual road bridge overhead, turning south past  Intermediate Signals at Cherokee Hill, Monteith, and Intermediate Signals at Galilica, and turning just east of due south past a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing, a road bridge overhead, two grade crossings, [the location of] a bridge carrying an NS line to the docks overhead, a grade crossing, a divided street alongside to the east, MP 489.6, where Yard Limits start and a branch from the Savannah State Docks trails in on the east side, a grade crossing, and a dirt track grade crossing.

At Central Junction (MP 490.4), the former SAL and former ACL lines join, with the single track westernmost fork (SAL) trailing in from due north, from Columbia, and the  double track easternmost (ACL) trailing in from the northeast, from Charleston, and an NS line crosses both lines on the flat, just north of North Tower, past a road bridge overhead, the north switch to the station track on the east side at the Savannah Amtrak station (MP 490.9 on the former ACL route), which has a stub track and its side platform on the east side and two through tracks surrounding an island platform with an umbrella shed on the west side, with the modern station building to the east, which once used a passenger subway to connect to the island platform, just north of Telfair Junction, where parallel routes through Savannah (one ex-SAL, on the west side, and one ex-ACL on the east side) separate, and an SAL line once curved away on the east side.
