Carlton to Saunders

From the junction between the Lakes subdivision, coming from the north and the single track, former Northern Pacific, Brainerd sub. coming from the west, and east-southeast to the 9,700 ft. north side siding from West Chub Lake (MP 34.9) past a grade crossing and Chub Lake (MP 34.0). to East Chub Lake (MP 33.0), the former GN Lakes sub. heads east, single track, CTC, speed limit 50 mph, past a rocky cutting in the woods, an erstwhile NP line that once departed on the south side, and one that once departed on the north side, turning just east of due south, with the erstwhile south side line still running parallel, past a rocky cutting in the woods, a grade crossing, a detector at MP 31.5, Wingate, a tank farm on the south side, a turn northeast, away from the erstwhile NP line's path, Alford (MP 30.2), a deck bridge over a stream in the woods, a turn southeast, a high bridge over a "river" in the woods, a turn east, and a road bridge overhead.

There is a bridge over a dirt track, Intermediate Signals, a detector at MP 25.4, right on a turn south, a road alongside and then leaving to the north, in the woods, a turn east, a turn south right along the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin, past a grade crossing, State Line (MP 24.9), where that erstwhile south-side NP line once crossed, a turn southeast into Wisconsin, a road alongside to the north, a dirt track grade crossing,  a bridge over the route of an erstwhile Soo line, a dirt road grade crossing, a turn east past  a dirt road grade crossing and Dewey, a road to the north, turning across a grade crossing and becoming a road alongside to the south, a turn east-northeast past Borea and the start of Two Main Tracks, CTC, at MP 15.9, where that erstwhile Soo line once came alongside to the north, a dirt road alongside to the south, and a dirt road grade crossing.

The line turns north-northeast where an erstwhile GN line once trailed in from the south-southwest, past a grade crossing near the junction, a connector curving east (i.e., on the south side) to the former Soo (and later joint CP/BNSF) Hinckley sub., a road alongside to the south, and the junction with the Hinckley sub., coming from the south, at Boylston (MP 11.8/12.6), with a road alongside to the east, a dirt road grade crossing, and two yard tracks on the east side, and the signals and junctions with connectors east and west to the CN (former Duluth, Missabe & Northern) at Saunders (MP 10.3), where there is a flyover over the CN, a former GN line turning away east to Ore Dock Yard and the erstwhile Allouez Ore Docks, MP 10, and a northwest quadrant connector from the former DMN.
