Palmer to Worcester

From the flat crossing with the north-south ex-Central Vermont and Massachusetts Central at CP-83 (MP 83.3), where there is a connector in the northeast quadrant and a 20,572 ft. north side siding starts, a street alongside to the north, a road bridge overhead, extra track on the south side, three extra tracks on the north side, and Palmer (MP 83.2), which has a depot in the southeast corner of the junction of the New England Central (former Central Vermont) and Conrail lines, but is no longer a passenger stop, the double track, CTC, cab signals Boston Line, with the speed limit 60 mph for passenger trains and 40 mph for freights, turns north and passes a road bridge overhead, angled dual road bridges overhead, a dirt track grade crossing, and the end of the north side siding at West Brimfield/CP-79 (MP 79.4).

 The passenger speed limit drops to 40 mph at MP 77.9, past angled dual road bridges overhead, a road bridge overhead, a curve around to the east, a river alongside to the north, MP 77, West Warren, MP 76.3, where the passenger speed limit rises to 45 mph, MP 76, a through girder bridge over a river, MP 75.8, where the passenger speed limit rises to 60 mph, a detector at MP 74.9, extra track on the north side, a road bridge overhead, a road alongside to the north, a dirt road grade crossing, a river alongside to the north, a bridge over the river, a road bridge overhead, a through girder bridge over a river, a bridge over a street, an angled road bridge overhead, a river alongside to the north, a road bridge overhead, a bridge over a river, and an old depot to the north in Warren (MP 72.2).

There is a passenger speed restriction of 55 mph between MP 71.0 and MP 70.5, reverting to 60 mph thereafter, as the line turns northeast, past marshland to the north, a road bridge overhead, a turn east, West Brookfield, a road alongside to the north, a bridge over a stream, a turn southeast, Brookfield, a turn just north of due east, the start of a 33,692 ft. south side siding at East Brookfield/CP-64 (MP 64.1), where a branch from North Brookfield once trailed in on the north side, an old brick depot on the north side, a bridge over a stream, MP 62.5, where the passenger speed limit drops to 50 mph as the line turns southeast and then east-northeast, a five-track autorack terminal on the north side (RTEX), and a passenger speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 60.7 and MP 60.3, as the line turns south, reverting to 50 mph thereafter.

The line continues past a bridge over a stream, Intermediate Signals at MP 60.x, a road alongside to the north, a road bridge overhead, MP 58.3, where the passenger speed limit drops to 40 mph, the end of the south side siding at CP-57 (MP 57.7), where the line turns sharply east and then gently curves east-northeast, a road bridge overhead, MP 57, a road bridge overhead, a detector at MP 55.4, and a road bridge overhead..

There is a turn east-southeast at Rochdale, past a pond on the north side, extra track on the north side, a road bridge overhead, a rocky cutting, and a bridge over a river, and northeast at Webster Junction, where a branch from Webster on today's Providence & Worcester once trailed in from the south, past a bridge over an angled road, two road bridges overhead, MP 51.0, where the passenger speed limit rises to 55 mph, a wooded area, a gated dirt track grade crossing, MP 48.8, where the passenger speed limit drops to 50 mph, the start of a 26.300 ft. south side siding at CP-48 (MP 48.3), Jamesville (MP 47.8), MP 47.4, where the passenger speed limit rises to 60 mph, a wooded area, three road bridges overhead, a bridge over a street, a through girder bridge over a road, a through truss bridge over a road, an embankment, three extra tracks at a lower level on the north side,MP 44.7, where the speed limit drops to 25 mph through Worcester, a connector from the three tracks, an old tower on the north side, two extra tracks to the north, a junction with the Providence & Worcester line heading away south to Groton, at CP-45 (MP 44.3), the junction with the west-facing double-track line heading north (to Ayer), the passenger station at Worcester (MP 44.3), with two two-sided low-level platforms serving four tracks to the north of the main line, at a lower-level, a platform with umbrella shed to the north, a pedestrian bridge overhead in the platforms, and a brick depot on the north side of the line, in the vee of that junction, extra track on the north side, and the junction with the line north to Ayer, trailing in at CP-44 (MP 44.1), with a box labeled "44" on the north side, where the Boston line turns east-northeast.
