At CP 501 (MP 446.3), where there are crossovers, the ex-B&O splits off along the south side of the line, and a connector heads south to the line now occupying the former PRR right-of-way at Buffington/Buff (MP 445.9), where the PRR once trailed in from the northwest, single track, Automatic Block Signals, Automatic Permissive Block (later, DCS), with speed limit 30 mph for passenger trains and 25 mph for freights, heading southeast past the flat crossing with the east-west B&OCT at Clarke Junction (MP 445.7), where there were once connectors in the northwest and southwest quadrants, a bridge carrying the EJ&E overhead, Dunes (MP 443.9), where an east quadrant connector from the EJ&E once trailed in on the east side, a bridge over the Grand Calumet River, with the former Wabash alongside to the east, a bridge carrying the South Shore interurban overhead, Gary (MP 442.9), where a connector from the South Shore once trailed in on the west side, the former Wabash turns away, the Indiana Harbor Belt bridges overhead, the flat crossing with the former Michigan Central Porter Branch at Tolleston (MP 441.8), Broadway (MP 440.4), Virginia Street (MP 439.9), a former flat crossing with a former Michigan Central line at Liverpool, and New Chicago.

There is a detector at MP 435.9, as the line turns east-southeast, Hobart (MP 434.5), where a north quadrant connector to an erstwhile EJ&E line once turned away east, a former flat crossing with that EJ&E line, Bart (MP 434.2), where an east quadrant connector from that line once trailed in from the north, a former Nickel Plate line coming alongside to the south, Wheeler, the flat crossing with the Grand Trunk Western at GTW Crossing (MP 426.9), where the line turns southeast again and the former NKP line moves away further south, the passenger station at Valparaiso (MP 424.1), where the speed limit has risen to 50/30 and the line turns just south of due east, a detector at MP 419.1, where the speed limit has risen to 60/40, a former flat crossing with the erstwhile Monon Michigan City branch, a siding at Ewing (MP 413.8), the flat crossing with CSX (former Pere Marquette) at Hanna (MP 408.6), Davis, a detector at MP 401.8, a former flat crossing with an erstwhile New York Central line at Hamlet (MP 397.9), Grovertown, and Donaldson.

There is a speed restriction to 30 mph between MP 391.5 and MP 391.0, after which it returns to 60/40, a detector at MP 390.4, the flat crossing with NS (former Lake Erie & Western, and before that Indianapolis & Michigan City) at Plymouth (MP 383.9), a detector at "Inwood" (MP 379.6), Bourbon, Etna Green, Atwood, a siding at Selby (MP 363.6), a flat crossing with the north-south former Big Four Marion Branch at Warsaw (MP 358.7), Winona (MP 356.0), aka Winona Lake, where a line once trailed in on the north side, a detector at MP 355.2, a siding at Larwill (MP 346.5), a turn southeast, east, and then just south of due east again, Vandale (MP 338.9), a former flat crossing with an erstwhile Wabash line at Columbia City (MP 338.7), a detector at MP 336.0, Coesse, a siding at Arcola (MP 328.2), a detector at MP 325.0, and a bridge carrying the former Nickel Plate overhead.

There is a flat crossing with another former Nickel Plate line, with northeast and southeast quadrant connectors, at Junction (Fourth Street Crossing, MP 321.1), where the line turns east and a 30 mph speed restriction starts, Broadway Street (MP 320.2), the passenger station at Fort Wayne (MP 319.8), with a former Wabash line alongside to the south, Lafayette Street (MP 319.6), the flat crossing with the ex-Wabash at Mike (MP 319.2), where the line turns east-southeast, Winter Street (MP 318.6), Piqua Yard on the north side of the line at Piqua Road (MP 317.5), with a connecting line north to the former Wabash at the east end of the yard, a detector at "Linker" (MP 316.3), the junction with the Fort Wayne Secondary Track, heading south, at Adams (MP 314.4), the Division Post between the Dearborn Division and Pittsburgh Division (MP 314.0), where the freight speed restriction rises to 40 mph, Maples, Monroeville, and the Indiana-Ohio State Line at Dixon (MP 300.4).

The line passes Convoy, a detector at "Ritchey" (MP 292.4), Rich (MP 289.0), the siding at Estry (MP 287.8), Van Wert (MP 287.4), where there was once a flat crossing with an erstwhile Big Four north-south line, and the line turns just south of due east, Middlepoint, the flat crossing with the former Clover Leaf, now Indiana Hi-Rail, at Delphos (MP 274.5), MP 274.4, where the freight speed limit becomes 50 mph, the siding at Delph (MP 272.0), where the line turns southeast, Auglaize, a detector at "West Elida" (MP 266.4), Elida, the 13,000 ft. siding at Cole (MP 261.9), previously the yard at Cole Street, where a 35 mph speed restriction starts, a turn to the east, the flat crossing (once two flat crossings) with the former B&O (CSX)/former Lake Eerie & Western (NS) at Lima (MP 260.3), where there is a passenger station, and the flat crossing with the former DT&I at Sugar Street (MP 259.6), with connectors in the southwest and southeast quadrants, where the speed restriction ends.

Thee line continues just north of due east, past Proctor (MP 257.0), Gam (MP 255.6), Lafayette, a detector at "Ada" (MP 242.8), Dola, MP 239, where a 40 mph freight speed restriction starts, Kirk (MP 236.4), the flat crossing with the Toledo Branch at Dunkirk (MP 236.4), Forest, where there was once a flat crossing with an erstwhile Big Four line, a detector at Kirby (MP 223.5), Chess (MP 219.3), the 1,000 foot siding and flat crossing with the former C&O (CSX) at Upper Sandusky (MP 217.5), where the line turns east, MP 216.2, where the speed restriction ends, a detector at "Nevada" (MP 207.2), Glenville, San (MP 203.0), MP 201.1, where a 25 mph speed restriction starts, Bucyrus (MP 200.8), and the flat crossing with NS (a former PRR line between Columbus and Bellevue/Sandusky), with connectors in the northwest and northeast quadrants, and former flat crossing with an erstwhile Toledo & Ohio Central line at CP Colsan (MP 200.5).
