Walsh Junction to Pana

From Walsh Junction (MP 243.7), where a connector to the former CB&Q Centralia line turns away east, the former C&EI continues east-northeast, single track, CTC, maximum speed 60 mph, past a grade crossing, a through girder angled bridge carrying that former CB&Q line overhead, a grade crossing, a detector at MP 241.5, a grade crossing, a cutting in the woods, an embankment in the fields, a turn northeast, Intermediate Signals, a bridge over a stream, a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, a cutting in the woods, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing, a spur at Taylor Springs (MP 234.4), a road alongside to the east, a grade crossing in Hillsboro, grain silos to the south (not currently rail-served), a grade crossing at the west end of the 11,736 ft. siding at Hillsboro (MP 233.8 to MP 231.4), within which the former Big Four main line (via Wood River) once trailed in from the west and the line turns east-northeast again, with a bridge over a road and formerly rail-served elevators to the south, in the siding, and an embankment at the east end of the siding.

There is a road briefly to the east, a grade crossing, a road alongside to the south, a grade crosisng, an embankment in the woods, a grade crossing, the road to the south edging away in a town, a grade crossing in town, grain silos to the east (no longer rail-served), a spur at Irving (MP 227.4), the road to the south again, three dirt track grade crossings, a grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, the road to the south turning away, a grade crossing, a grade crossing in town, a spur on the south side at Witt (MP 222.9), silos to the south, the road to the south returning, a bridge over drainage, a detector at MP 219.2, a dirt road grade crossing, three grade crossings in town, a spur at Nokomis (MP 218.2), to silos to the south, a grade crossing at Scott Road, a grade crossing, a bridge over drainage, a dirt track grade crossing at the west end of the 10,442 ft. south-side siding at Ohlman (MP 215.0 to MP 212.9), with a grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, a grade crossing in town, a spur to silos on the south side, and a grade crossing at the east end, all within the siding, two dirt track grade crossings, a bridge over drainage, three dirt track grade crossings, and a spur at Rosamond (MP 209.4), where the line turns east, to the 7,734 ft. south-side siding at Pana (MP 207.3 to MP 205.7), where the former Big Four once headed away east, an erstwhile former B&O once approached from the northwest, made a flat crossing, and left to the east, on the north side of the former Big Four, and the former C&EI turns east-northeast again, with two dirt track grade crossings within the siding.
