Woodland Junction to Thornton Junction

Current-of-traffic double track, speed limit 60 mph, starts at the junction between the line on the west side, coming from St. Louis, Gorham, and Findlay Junction, and the (now CSX, once L&N) Evansville line, coming in on the east side, at Woodland Junction (MP 82.4), where there are crossovers and a street to the west. The line heads north, past a grade crossing, silos to the east, a grade crossing, extra track to the silos, a bridge over a river,  crossovers at Coaler (MP 79.6),a dirt road grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, north-facing extra track to the east, a grade crossing, a bridge over a river, three grade crossings, the flat crossing with the TP&W at Watseka (MP 77.5), where the speed limit is 50 mph on the crossing, a grade crossing, silos and extra track to the east, two grade crossings, a bridge over the Iroquois River, detectors at MP 75.7, a grade crossing, crossovers at Ben (MP 73.7), a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, extra tracks on the east side at Pittwood (MP 71.5), where there are silos on the east side, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road alongside to the east, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, two grade crossings, extra track at Martinton (MP 67.7), a grade crossing, a bridge over drainage, and a grade crossing.

The line passes extra track and silos to the east, a grade crossing and crossovers at Papineau (MP 64.2), a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing, detectors at MP 62.3, a bridge over irrigation, extra track at silos to the east, two grade crossings,  signals and the acute-angled flat crossing with the former Big Four Kankakee to Lafayette line at St Anne (MP 60.1), where the speed limit is 50 mph on the crossing and the line angles north-northeast, two grade crossings, Intermediate Signals, five grade crossings, the road alongside to the east turning away, extra track at Wichert (MP 57.9), a bridge over drainage, a dirt road grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, Koster, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 53.6, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 51.6, extra track to the east, a grade crossing in the extra track, Momence (MP 49.9), with north-facing spur to an elevator to the west, where a line once trailed in from the south-southeast, and more extra track across from the elevators, a grade crossing, a pedestrian crossing, signals and a crossover, and two separate deck girder bridges over two separate channels of the Kankakee River.

There is a grade crossing, silos to the west, a southeast quadrant connector, and a flat crossing with the former NYC Streator line, where there was once a tower in the southeast corner, at Pence (MP 49.7), on the north side of the river, where the speed limit is 30 mph on the crossing and a Milwaukee Road line once crossed, and the line turns north, with gentle curves back and forth at long intervals, past a grade crossing, MP 49, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, detectors at MP 45.0, two extra tracks to  grain elevators to the east, and crossovers at Grant Park (MP 44.7), a bridge over drainage, a grade crossing, MP 41, Sollitt, a grade crossing at MP 40.8, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 38.8, a wooden depot and sidings to the east at Beecher, a grade crossing north of the depot, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 36.x, crossovers at "Beecher" (MP 35.8), a grade crossing, MP 35, MP 34, a grade crossing, MP 33, detectors at Goodenow (MP 32.2), a grade crossing, Lincoln Fields, Intermediate Signals, four grade crossings in town, Crete, three grade crossings in Steger, seven extra tracks to the east at Steger (MP 28.8), and a grade crossing north of the extra tracks.

The speed limit drops to 40 mph at MP 28,, past a grade crossing at Chicago Heights (MP 27.8), where there is track off to an industrial park on the east side, the flat crossing with the double track EJ&E line at Jay (MP 27.0), with tower in the southwest corner and a southeast quadrant connector, the location of a former flat crossing with the erstwhile Michigan Central, a curve north-northeast, a former bridge over the erstwhile B&OCT, a grade crossing,  a connection from the Chicago Heights industrial trackage trailing in on the east side, past a three-track through girder bridge over a street, at  the crossover at Twelfth Street (MP 25.9), a grade crossing at Twelfth Street, a curve back to the north, a bridge over a street, MP 25, a grade crossing in an industrial area, Glenwood, an embankment, a bridge over a stream, MP 22, extra track at Thornton (MP 21.7), where there was once a wye on the west side with trackage connecting to the B&OCT and the IC, two grade crossings, a closed grade crossing, a grade crossing, a street to the east, turning away, another street to the east, a bridge over an Interstate (I-80?), two grade crossings, the location of a former southwest quadrant connector, and the flat crossing with the double track former Grand Trunk Western, start of Yard Limits and 20 mph speed limit, and northeast quadrant connector at Thornton Junction (MP20.1).
