Bulls Gap to Johnson City

All of the former Southern Railway GRS tri-color signals were replaced in 2012 all the way from Bull's Gap to Johnson City.

From the junction with the Appalachia line, departing on the north side, and start of Track Warrant Control (TWC) at Justice (MP 76.0), and the end of the siding (MP 75.6) at Bulls Gap (MP 75.7), where the line bridges over the Appalachia line, the line heads southeast, single track, Automatic Block Signals, TWC, maximum speed 60 mph for intermodal and 50 mph for other freight trains, with a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 76.8 to MP 74.0, turning south, with a 45 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 74.0 to MP 68.4, southeast past Mohawk (MP 71.4), south past Midway, with a 40 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 68.4 to MP 67.8, east with a 45 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 67.8 to MP 65.9, past a detector at "Mosheim" (MP 66.8) and Mosheim, and curvily southeast, with a 45-40 speed restriction on curves, from MP 65.9 to MP 65.8, a 40-35 speed restriction on curves, from MP 65.8 to MP 65.3, a 45-40 speed restriction on curves, from MP 65.3 to MP 64.9, and a 50 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 64.9 to MP 62.0, past the 10,114 ft. south-side siding (20 mph on the siding), from Rader (MP 64.4), where Traffic Control (CTC) resumes, to Jones (MP 62.3), where TWC returns.

The line turns south, with a 40-35 speed restriction on curves, from MP 62.0 to MP 61.6, and curvily east-northeast, with a 45 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 61.6 to MP 60.6, a 35 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 60.6 to MP 60.1, a 40-35 speed restriction on curves, from MP 60.1 to MP 59.7, a 45 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 59.7 to MP 58.9, a 45-40 speed restriction on curves, from MP 58.9 to MP 58.2, a 35 mph speed restriction over street crossings, from MP 58.3 to MP 53.3, through Greeneville, a 45 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 58.2 to MP 57.0, a 40 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 57.0 to MP 56.4, Greeneville (MP 56.7), a 45 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 56.4 to MP 54.0, curvily just north of due east, with a 45 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 54.0 to MP 51.9, past a detector at "Afton" (MP 52.9), a 35 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 51.9 to MP 51.6, a 45 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 51.6 to MP 49.3, and the 4,614 ft. north-side siding (10 mph on the siding) at Afton (MP 50.5).

There is a 45-40 speed restriction on curves, from MP 49.3 to MP 48.5, as the line turns just east of due north, and then very curvily northeast, with a 40-35 speed restriction on curves, from MP 48.5 to MP 47.9, a 45 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 47.9 to MP 44.9, past Chuckley, curvily east, with a 40 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 44.9 to MP 44.6, a 45 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 44.6 to MP 43.8, past Limestone, northeast, with a 35 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 43.8 to MP 42.8 and a 40 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 42.8 to MP 42.2, and just north of due east, with a 50-45 speed restriction on curves, from MP  42.2 to MP 39.6, past a detector at "Telford" (MP 40.3), and a 45-40 speed restriction on curves, from MP 39.6 to MP 38.7,  a 40-35 speed restriction on curves, from MP 38.7 to MP 38.4, and a 50-45 speed restriction on curves, from MP 38.4 to MP 35.1, past the 9,799 ft. south-side TC siding (25 mph on the siding), from Telford (MP 37.9) to Sand Valley (MP 35.9).

The line turns northeast, with a 45-40 speed restriction on curves, from MP 35.1 to MP 34.7, a 45 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 34.7 to MP 33.2, and a 35 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 33.2 to MP 33.0, to Jonesborough (MP 33.0), east with a 25 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 33.0 to MP 32.0, northeast, with a 35 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 32.0 to MP 28.6, past Reeves, and curvily east, with a 35 mph speed restriction over street crossings, from MP 30.0 to MP 22.0, through Johnson City, and a 45-40 speed restriction on curves, from MP 28.6 to MP 25.6, past a detector at "Johnson City" (MP 27.2), a location where an erstwhile branch from Embreeville once trailed in from the south, and a bridge carrying the former Clinchfield line overhead, a 40-35 speed restriction on curves, from MP 25.6 to MP 24.9, a 50-45 speed restriction on curves, from MP 24.9 to MP 22.5, and Johnson City (MP 24.8), where there is a connection on the south side with the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina and the main line turns northeast.
