Knoxville to Bulls Gap

All of the former Southern Railway GRS tri-color signals were replaced in 2012 all the way from Knoxville to Bull's Gap.

From the angled flat crossing and junction (with a connector trailing in on the north side) with the K&A  (Knoxville & Atlanta) at K&A Junction (MP 131.1), and the location of the erstwhile Southern Station at Knoxville (MP 130.7), the line heads east-northeast, double track, Yard Limits, Automatic Block Signals, current-of-traffic (Rule 251), maximum speed 60 mph for intermodal and 50 mph for other freight trains, with a 35 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 131.5 to MP 130.4, and a 30 mph speed restriction over street crossings from MP 136.7 to MP 125.0, past the Knoxville City Yard, turning north-northwest, north-northeast, and east-northeast, with a 25 mph speed limit on curves from MP 130.4 to MP 129.4, and a 45 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 129.4 to MP 125.1, to the West End of Sevier Yard (MP 125.0), where single track starts and the maximum speed drops to 20 mph, and a line from Coster trails in on the north side, and a spur to a cement plant leaves on the south side, and then past Sevier Yard (MP 123.0), on the north side of the line.

Yard Limits end and Traffic Control (CTC) starts at Lizzie (MP 122.2), and double track, ABS, TC resumes at East Sevier (MP 121.6), where the maximum speed returns to 60-50, with a 35 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 121.6 to MP 120.1, a 45-40 speed restriction on curves from MP 120.1 to MP 119.3, past McMillan, and a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 119.3 to MP 119.0, past the start of single track (40 mph on the turnout) at Roseberry (MP 119.2), as the line turns northeast, southeast around a bend in the river, just to the south, with a 45-40 speed restriction on curves from MP 119.0 to MP 117.2, and then very curvily just north of due east, past a dragging equipment detector at MP 117.7, Mascot, a 45 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 117.2 to MP 114.9, after which full line speeds prevail, a bridge over the river, Strawberry Plains, a detector at "Hodges" (MP 111.2), a 55-50 speed restriction on curves from MP 110.6 to MP 108.5, and the resumption of double track (40 mph on the turnout) at Hodges (MP 110.2).

There is a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 108.5 to MP 107.7, Friends (MP 107.1), New Market, a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 105.6 to MP 103.0, a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 103.0 to MP 102.0, a 40 mph speed restriction over street crossings, from MP 102.3 to MP 101.6, a 40-35 speed restriction on curves from MP 102.0 to MP 101.6, a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 101.6 to MP 101.3, and a 55-50 speed restriction on curves from MP 101.3 to MP 101.1, after which full line speeds prevail past Jefferson City, a spur trailing in from the south, the start of single track (40 mph on the turnout) at Keister (MP 100.0), a detector at "Talbott" (MP 98.9), Talbott, a turn northeast, the resumption of double track (40 mph on the turnout) at Alpha (MP 94.1), a 55-50 speed restriction on curves from MP 93.1 to MP 91.7 as the line turns east-northeast, Coulter (MP 92.7), Morristown (MP 92.4), a 35 mph speed restriction over street crossings from MP 92.1 to MP 90.5, a 45 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 91.7 to MP 89.3, and the crossover (25 mph) and junction with the Asheville line (40 mph on the turnout), on the south side, at New Line (MP 91.4).

The line continues through Morristown, with a 25 mph speed restriction over street crossings from MP 90.5 to MP 85.6, a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 89.3 to MP 85.3, the start of single track (40 mph on the turnout) at Pickens (MP 89.0), where an erstwhile line (now drowned by a reservoir on the river to the north) once crossed, a spur for Hale Brothers (MP 88.5), a detector at "Morristown" (MP 87.1), a spur at Bean Station Furniture (MP 86.9), a spur at Allied Warehouse (MP 86.4), a spur at Berkline (MP 85.9), a 35 mph speed restriction over street crossings from MP 85.6 to MP 83.0, a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 85.3 to MP 85.0, a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 85.0 to MP 83.5, a spur at Cal Gas Co. (MP 84.6), a 50-45 speed restriction on curves from MP 83.5 to MP 82.4, the 5,925 ft. south-side siding at Russellville (MP 82.6), a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 82.4 to MP 80.8, a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 80.8 to MP 80.1, a 45-40 speed restriction on curves from MP 80.1 to MP 79.9, a 45 mph speed restriction on curves from MP  79.9 to MP 78.0, and a detector at "Whitesburg" (MP 79.0).

The line turns southeast, with a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 78.0 to MP 77.1, past the start of a 9,895 ft. north-side siding at Kite (MP 77.6), a 40-35 speed restriction on curves from MP 77.1 to MP 76.8, a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 76.8 to MP 74.0, the junction with the Appalachia line, departing on the north side, and start of Track Warrant Control (TWC) at Justice (MP 76.0), and the end of the siding (MP 75.6) at Bulls Gap (MP 75.7), where the line bridges over the Appalachia line.
