Shreveport to De Quincy

From Deramus Yard at Shreveport (MP 553.3), the line heads southeast, Two Main Tracks, Automatic Block Signals, Yard Limits, speed limit 20 mph, with Cross Lake on the south side, turning south-southeast, and then just south of due east past the yard at Harriet Street (MP 556.3), and then east, under the bridge carrying the connector from the former Texas & Pacific Hollywood Yard, to the wye at MP 557.1, where ABS ends, the KCS Meridian line turns away north and the Beaumont line turns south past South Wye (MP 558.3, where the east leg of the wye with the Meridian Line trails in from the north (on the east side), Wilkinson Street (MP 559.0), end of Two Main Tracks, and the spur on the west side into Caddo Industrial Park, south-southeast past the flat crossing with the former Texas & Pacific Alexandria line at UP Crossing (MP 563.5), the 2,250 ft. dual-ended spur at Slack Industrial Park (MP 564.4), the 1,973 ft. siding and yard on the west side at Forbing (MP 565.6), the end of Yard Limits and start of CTC at MP 566.3, where the maximum speed rises to 45 mph, a detector at MP 567.6, and Norton.

The line turns south, with a short 1% upgrade, past the 8,212 ft. siding (20 mph on the switches) at Frierson (MP 575.2, past MP 576.3, to MP 577.0), a detector at MP 578.2, Kingston, the wye on the east side with the spur to the International Paper Bayou Pierre Mill, at Bayou Pierre (MP 580.3 and MP 580.8), and Holly, turning west-southwest with a 40 mph speed limit, from MP 587.0 to MP 591.1, after which 45 mph resumes, but with a local 30 mph restriction for street crossings in Mansfield from MP 591.1 to MP 593.1, past the 5,645 ft. siding (20 mph on the switches) at Mansfield (MP 590.1, past MP 591.3, to MP 591.7), where an erstwhile Texas & Pacific line once crossed, and south again, past the 400 ft. south-facing spur at Hendrix (MP 592.6), the 1,500 ft. International Paper Spur (MP 592.6), the 3,520 ft. siding at Trenton (MP 598.0),  the 0.3% downgrade from Trenton to Benson, a detector at MP 601.0,Catuna, and the 4,575 ft. siding at Benson (MP 604.0, past MP 604.5, to MP 605.0).

There is a 9,381 ft. siding (20 mph on the switches) at Converse (MP 609.6, past MP 610.1, to MP 611.5), a turn just east of due south, a detector at MP 614.9, on the 1% upgrade to Noble, followed by a 0.8% downgrade, a turn east-southeast, bridging over an arm of the Toledo Bend Reservoir on the Sabine River, past MP 621.0, where the maximum speed drops to 40 mph on the 0.9% upgrade, a 30 mph speed restriction for street crossings in Zwolle from MP 621.4 to MP 622.3,and  the 3,554 ft. siding at Zwolle (MP 621.8), where an erstwhile shortline (now drowned) once headed southwest beneath what is now the reservoir, just east of due south, east past the 5,682 ft. siding (20 mph on the switches) at Loring (MP 625.4, past MP 625.9, to MP 626.4), southeast past a detector at MP 629.3, on the 0.9% downgrade, just south of due east, past the 1,015 ft. siding at Many (MP 633.3), south-southeast, past the 2,080 ft. dual-ended spur at Con-Agra (MP 634.5), and southwest, past MP 636.0, where the maximum speed returns to 45 mph on the 0.8% upgrade.

The line turns south past the 3,565 ft. siding at Fisher (MP 638.9, siding MP 639.0 to MP 639.7). on the 0.7% downgrade, with the 600 ft. north-facing spur at Boise-Cascade (MP 639.6) within the siding, where two arms of an erstwhile shortline once headed west and east, the 1,350 ft. south-facing spur at Boise Cascade (MP 641.4), and the 2,000 ft. south-facing spur at Florien (MP 642.3), turning curvily south-southeast, past a detector at MP 645.2, the 350 ft. south-facing Gandy Spur (MP 645.5), Sandell, where an erstwhile shortline once headed east, a 40 mph speed limit from MP 648.0 to MP 651.0, on the 1% upgrade, after which 45 mph resumes, Hornbeck, a 40 mph speed restriction on the curve at MP 654.8, followed by a short 1% upgrade, Barham, where an erstwhile shortline once headed west, the 8,374 ft. siding (20 mph on the switches) at Anacoco (MP 658.0, past MP 658.6, to MP 659.6), on the 0.7% downgrade, and a bridge over the corner of a lake.

There is a detector at MP 663.0, on another 0.7% downgrade, the 600 ft. south-facing spur at Hawthorne (MP 664.0), MP 665.0, where the maximum speed drops to 45 mph, the end of CTC and start of Yard Limits (20 mph speed restriction) at MP 667.3, and the 5,569 ft. siding at Leesville (MP 668.4), where an erstwhile shortline once headed east-northeast and the line turns just west of due south, past the end of Yard Limits and the 20 mph speed restriction, and start of CTC at MP 670.3, Newllano, MP 671.0, where the maximum speed returns to 45 mph, Daub (MP 672.6), the dual-ended yard at Daub (MP 672.9), where an erstwhile line once headed east, a short 0.5% upgrade, Coppers, where an erstwhile shortline once headed west, Pickering, where an erstwhile shortline once headed east, and the 6,645 ft. siding (20 mph on the switches) at Neame (MP 679.8, siding MP 679.9 to MP 681.0), where erstwhile shortlines once headed east and west.

The line continues south, on a short 0.5% downgrade, past a detector at MP 683.4, Rose Pince, the end of CTC and start of Yard Limits (20 mph speed restriction) at MP 686.0, Ludington at MP 687.0, where a branch to a Boise-Cascade Mill heads west, the 1,750 ft. south-facing spur at Ampacet (MP 687.3), the south-facing lead at Boise Southern Paper (MP 687.4), DeRidder (MP 689.2), where an erstwhile shortline once headed east, the flat crossing with the Timber Rock Railroad (a former Galveston, Colorado & Santa Fe branch) at ATSF Crossing (MP 689.8), where the line turns south-southwest, the north-facing connector on the east side at ATSF/Chevron Connector (MP 690.0), the south-facing yard on the east side at Westvaco Spur (MP 690.1), and the end of Yard Limits and the 20 mph speed restriction, and start of CTC at MP 690.3, where the maximum speed rises to 50 mph.

There is a downgrade at 0.2%, with short steeper stretches up and down, past Bon Ami, where an erstwhile SP branch once left on the east side, Carson, where an erstwhile shortline once crossed, the 6,897 ft. siding (20 mph on the switches) at Singer (MP 704.1, past MP 705.1, to MP 705.8), Juanita, and a detector at MP 708.8, turning south at Smyth Junction, past Seale and Oretta, to the junction at DeQuincy (MP 719.0), where the St. Charles Branch departs on the east side, the main line turns southwest, and the maximum speed drops to 45 mph, with local 20 mph restriction on street crossings from MP 719.0 to MP 720.3, and CS Junction (MP 720.3), where a UP (former MoPac) line trails in from the east, on the south side, to form a joint line to Beaumont.
