Corinth to Sheffield

From the junction (southwest quadrant at MP 458.9) and flat crossing  (25 mph on the crossing) with the Kansas City Southern (on the former Mobile & Ohio, which has been running on the same line as the former Southern all the way from Memphis, and at this point joins its former line from Jackson, TN, coming from the north, and now operated by the NS in that direction) at Corinth (MP 458.8), the former Southern turns east-southeast, single track, Track Warrant Control, maximum speed 60 mph for intermodal trains and 50 mph for freight trains, but local restriction 35 mph over street crossings in Corinth, from MP 459.5 to MP 457.7, past the junction (20 mph on the turnouts and connector) with the NS Jackson District, coming from the north-northwest at Rudy (MP 457.3), where there is a brief interlude of Traffic Control (CTC, before TWC, ABS resumes, the line from Jackson continues across a flat crossing as the Redmont Railway (former IC), and a connection on the north side to the Kansas City Southern line northeast to Counce, TN, on the west bank of the Tennessee River.

There is a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 456.6 to MP 455.9, a 45 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 455.9 to MP 455.4, and a 55/50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 455.4 to MP 453.3, as the line turns south, past a detector at MP 454.7, curvily south-southeast with a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 453.3 to MP 452.9 and a 55/50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 452.9 to MP 452.5, after which full line speed prevails, past the 10,217 ft. south side siding at Glens (MP 448.8), turning just north of due east, with a 45 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 447.5 to MP 446.4, past Coke Spur, south-southeast, and then east-southeast, with a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 445.8 to MP 443.3, past Burnsville (MP 444.1), a bridge over the Tennessee-Tombigbee Canal, a detector at MP 442.5, and Weaver.

The line turns east, with a 55/50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 441.4 to MP 441.1, to a wye at Hazard Switch, where a spur leaves to the north, to Tri-State Commerce Park on the Tennessee River, and the line turns southeast, with a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 438.9 to MP 438.4, past the 4,788 ft. north side siding (10 mph on the siding) at Iuka (MP 436.5), south-southeast with a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 436.2 to MP 435.8, past Blythe, a 55/50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 434.5 to MP 434.3, and a detector at MP 433.7, just north of due east, past the 8,932 ft. north side siding at Oldham (MP 430.1), just south of due east, across an arm on the lake formed along the Tennessee River past Riverton Junction, where an erstwhile line from Riverton once trailed in from the north, Margerum (MP 428.1), Chisca, a detector at MP 424.0, a 35 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 422.9 to MP 421.9, the 5,985 ft. south side siding (10 mph on the siding) at Cherokee (MP 422.7).

There is a wye on the north side with a spur to LaRoche Industries and Vertagreen on the river, Barton, a spur on the north side with a spur to the TVA Colbert Steam Plant on the river, the 7,276 ft. south side siding at Pride (MP 415.2), and Carlin (MP 413.8), where Traffic Control (CTC) starts and the line turns southeast, past Scott (MP 412.8), curving around to east-northeast, with a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 411.7 to MP 409.3, past a detector at MP 410.4, north-northeast, with a 45 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 408.5 to MP 407.8, a 25 mph speed restriction on street crossings from MP 408.3 to MP 403.2, a 25 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 407.3 to MP 407.0, a 20 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 407.0 to MP 0.4, a former wye on the east side with an erstwhile cutoff direct to Norala Junction, the north end of which was at Tuscumbia (MP 0.6), where double track, current-of-traffic (Rule 251), ABS, Yard Limits, starts, as the line turns north.

The line turns northeast, past a 25 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 0.4 to MP 403.0, Loyall, to follow the south bank of the Tennessee River, east at "Sheffield", where a spur heads north to Sheffield Docks, just east of due south, past a former wye on the east (north) side with an erstwhile line to Florence (flooded by the lake on the river) and the TVA Muscle Shoals plant, the east end of two tracks (MP 3.1), where single track, ABS, Rule 261, Yard Limits starts and the erstwhile direct line from Tuscumbia once trailed in from the west, southeast past the junction with the west leg of the wye (20 mph on the wye) to the NS NA Line heading south at Norala (MP 3.7/404.0), where TC resumes and east, with a 15 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 403.0 to MP 402.9 and a 30 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 402.9 to MP 401.0,  past the junction with the east leg of the wye (20 mph on the wye) from the NS NA Line at Wilson (MP 402.8), and the yard at Sheffield Yard (MP 401.0).
