Decatur to Stevenson

From the junction with the west leg of a wye to the former Louisville & Nashville line to Birmingham, at Decatur (MP 363.3), where Traffic Control (CTC) starts, a 20 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 363.3 to MP 362, as the line turns northeast, past the junction with the east leg of the wye with the former L&N Birmingham line at River Junction (MP 363.0), the signaled drawbridge over the Tennessee River (MP 362.6), and the junction with the former L&N line to Nashville, at Decatur Junction (MP 362.1), where TWC, ABS, resumes, the line heads east-northeast, maximum speed 60 mph for intermodal trains and 50 mph for other freights, but local 35/30 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 362.1 to MP 361.8, past Irvington, a detector at MP 358.5, Belle Mina, a spur for Limestone Fertilizer Cooperative at MP 354.3, Greenbrier, a detector at MP 352.9, a 35 mph speed restriction on street crossings, from MP 348.6 to MP 348.3, Madison (MP 348.5), and a spur at Dunlop Lead (MP 347.9).

There is a turn just north of due east and then east-northeast again, Indian Creek, a spur trailing in from Redstone Arsenal to the south, and the 10,188 ft. south side siding at Elko (MP 343.1), a 35 mph speed restriction on street crossings, from MP 339.9 to MP 337.2, a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 339.8 to MP 338.3, as the line turns northeast, the 3,894 ft. south side siding (10 mph on the siding) at Huntsville Siding (MP 339.5), where there is a spur on the south side, Huntsville (MP 338.9), where the Huntsville & Madison County Railroad Authority line (former NC& StL) from Norton, on the riverbank, trails in from the south (and the NC&StL once continued north-northeast), there is a road bridge overhead, the former depot on the south side is now a museum, and another road bridge overhead, and the line turns north-northeast, past a detector at MP 338.0 and Van Dyke, turning just south of due east, with a 55/50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 336.9 to MP 335.7, past Chase, where the North Alabama Railroad Museum occupies the former NC&StL depot to the north, along with several miles of former NC&StL track in that vicinity.

The line turns southeast, just north of due east, and southeast again, with a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 335.3 to MP 334.8, a 55/50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 333.5 to MP 332.8, and a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 32.8 to MP 332.53, past Ryland, a detector at MP 329.3, and Brownsboro, south-southeast past the 4,666 ft. south side siding at Asa (MP 324.5), east-southeast past Gurley (MP 322.3) and a detector at MP 319.9, south with a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 319.6 to MP 319.3, past Paint Rock (MP 318.1), just east of due south, east, and northeast, with a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 315.7 to MP 315.4, a 45 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 314.6 to MP 314.3, and a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 314.3 to MP 313.4, past Woodville and a detector at MP 309.2, and just south of due east, with a 45 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 309.2 to MP 308.5, past Lim Rock.

There is a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 305.7 to MP 305.4, as the line turns northeast, past the 8,198 ft. south side siding at Midway (MP 304.2) and Larkinsville, a turn east-southeast, past a detector at MP 300.9, a spur from a Goodyear Plant on the river, trailing in from the south, a 45 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 298.5 to MP 298.3, as the line turns east, a 35 mph speed restriction over street crossings, from MP 298.5 to MP 296.8, the 3,179 ft. siding (10 mph on the siding) at Scottsboro (MP 297.6), a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 296.9 to MP 296.5, as the line turns north-northeast, a road crossing at Tupelo Pike (MP 296.8), Hollywood, a spur from the Bellefonte Nuclear Plant on the river trailing in from the southeast at Bellefont, a bridge over an arm of the lake formed on the river, Fackler, a detector at MP 286.0, another bridge over an arm of the lake formed on the river, the 7,830 ft. south side siding (10 mph on the siding) at Stevenson Siding (MP 281.1), a 30 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 280.4 to MP 279.9, and the junction with the former Nashville, Chattanooga, & St. Louis line coming south-southeast from Nashville at Stevenson (MP 280.0), where the NS route takes up trackage rights on the CSX line for the run to Wauhatchie (Chattanooga), heading north-northeast.
