Cleveland to Buffalo

From the junction with the former Erie at East 37th Street (MP 183.0), and then just south of due east, as the Rapid Transit line (still on the former NYC r-o-w) bridges overhead, and the yard(s) at East 55th Street (MP 182.2), the former Nickel Plate line turns east-northeast,  double track, Automatic Block Signals, current-of-traffic (Rule 251), maximum speed 60 mph, but local speed restriction 40 mph, with the Rapid Transit line on the south side, past a bridge carrying the former PRR Cleveland Line overhead, a bridge carrying the former Cleveland Short Line overhead, a turn northeast, along the east side of that line, with the Rapid Transit line alongside to the east (ending at Windermere), the end of the 40 mph speed restriction at Euclid Avenue (MP 178.6), a 45 mph speed restriction on curves, from MP 178.6 to MP 178.0, the CSL turning away north, the RTA ending, a 35 mph speed restriction, from London Road (MP 175.0) to Wayside Road (MP 174.9), a turn east-northeast, a 50 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 174.8 to MP 174.6, an erstwhile spur to Bluestone Quarry once turning away south, and Euclid.

Single track, ABS, Traffic Control (CTC), starts at UD (MP 172.0), past a 35 mph speed restriction through Wickliffe, from MP 170.0 to MP 168.0, the 6,976 ft. siding at Wickliffe (MP 169.1), a detector at "Wickliffe" (MP 168.5), the Water-Level Route coming alongside to the north, a 50 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 165.3 to MP 164.2, past the 6,250 ft. siding at Willoughby (MP 165.0), a turn east, and a turn east-northeast again, Daniels (MP 163.7), a separation from the Water-Level Route, the 6,288 ft. siding at Mentor (MP 160.5), the Colony Lumber Company track at MP 156.3, a 30 mph speed restriction through Painesville, from Chestnut Street (MP 155.9) to Bank Street (MP 154.3), the 6,459 ft. siding at Painesville (MP 155.2), where an erstwhile B&O line to Fairport Harbor once crossed on the flat, a 50 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 153.8 to MP 153.5, as the line turns east and then east-northeast again, and the 6,562 ft. siding and junction with the Fairport Branch, trailing in from just south of due west as the line turns just north of due east, at Perry (MP 148.8).

There is a detector at "Perry" (MP 146.9), West MA (MP 143.8), start of the 11,900 ft. Madison Siding (MP 142.0), the Madison Spur at MP 142.7, the end of the siding at Unionville (MP 141.5), the Geneva Spur at MP 138.2, a turn east-northeast, Saybrook, Sanborn (MP 131.3), start of the 10,560 ft. Ashtabula Siding (MP 130.0), a 35 mph speed restriction, from MP 129.9 to MP 128.0, as the line turns just south of due east, across a former flat crossing with an erstwhile former PRR line and the flat crossing and junction with the former Conrail Ashtabula Line and Pittsburgh & Lake Erie at NP (MP 129.2), turning east-northeast again at KG (MP 128.0), where the restriction ends, a detector at "Kingsville" (MP 124.6), Kingsville, Reed (MP 120.8), start of the 14,500 ft. Conneaut Siding (MP 119.0), to Parrish (MP 117.2), a turn just north of due east, with a 20 mph speed restriction, from MP 117.2 to Orange Street (MP 115.8), for the yard at Conneaut (MP 116.2), a bridge carrying the Bessemer & Lake Erie overhead, Chestnut (MP 115.9), and a 25 mph speed restriction through Conneaut, from MP 115.8 to MP 115.4.

The line turns east, and enters Pennsylvania, passing Woodworth (MP 115.0, 25 mph on the turnout), start of the 13,900 ft. P.A. Siding (MP 113.0), to East CT (MP 112.3, 25 mph on the turnout), and turning just north of due east, past Thornton Junction, where an erstwhile PRR line once crossed, Elk Creek, a 50 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 104.9 to MP 104.6, a 40 mph speed restriction on the bridge at "Girard" (MP 103.9), a 50 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 103.7 to MP 103.3, the 6,585 ft. siding at Girard (MP 103.0), Wallace Junction (MP 102.9), where a B&LE line trails in on the south side, a 50 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 102.7 to MP 102.5, Fairview, a detector at "Swanville" (MP 97.7), a 40 mph speed restriction on the bridge at "Swanville" (MP 96.72), a 50 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 96.5 to MP 96.3, the 7,534 ft. siding (25 mph on the siding) at Swanville (MP 96.3), the 84 Lumber Company track at MP 93.0, the 5,152 ft. siding at Cascade (MP 90.8), where the B&LE departs on the north side, the Alcor Corporation spur at MP 90.5, a 15 mph speed restriction on the street running in Erie from Cranberry Street (MP 89.5) to State Street (MP 87.9), a former PRR line bridging overhead, a 35 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 87.9 to MP 86.7, the 7,092 ft. siding at Dean (MP 86.0), and North East (MP 74.4).

There is a 50 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 71.2 to MP 71.0, as the line enters New York State, a 50 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 70.5 to MP 70.2, a detector at "Ripley" (MP 68), the 16,099 ft. siding (25 mph on the siding) at Ripley (MP 66.1), a 50 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 58.7 to MP 58.5, Westfield (MP 58.2), where the erstwhile Jamestown, Chautauqua & Lake Erie Railroad once trailed in from the south, the 21,865 ft. siding (25 mph on the siding) at Pomfret (MP 54.8), a 40 mph speed restriction on the reverse curves from MP 50.4 to MP 50.1, where an erstwhile PRR line once crossed, a detector at "Van Buren" (MP 46.3), a 50 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 43.2 to MP 42.8, a 40 mph speed restriction, by Dunkirk ordinance, from MP 42.0 to MP 40.1, a turn northeast, the flat crossing with the Water-Level Route at AK/Dunkirk (MP 41.1), a turn east-northeast again, a spur for Chemical Process at MP 38.4, and the 19,674 ft. siding (25 mph on the siding) at Silver Creek (MP 32.2).

The line crosses a river and the Water-Level Route again at Irvine, with a 50 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 31.5 to MP 30.5, turning northeast past a detector at "Farnham" (MP 26.5), the Angola Storage Track at MP 22.4, Angola (MP 22.3), Lakeview, and Shaleton, turning just east of due north, with a 35 mph speed restriction on the curve from MP 7.0 to MP 6.7, past the acute-angled flat crossing and junction (35 mph on the crossing and turnout) with the Buffalo Southern and Delaware & Hudson (former Erie) and start of double track, current-of-traffic (Rule 251) at GB (MP 6.9), where the maximum speed drops to 50 mph for intermodals and 35 mph for other freights, a former location of a crossing with an erstwhile New York Central line, a bridge carrying a former Lehigh Valley line overhead, and the start of Yard Limits at MP 6.6, turning north past a crossing with the South Buffalo, a crossing with the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh, and Tift Yard (MP 3.3), turning northeast past a wye on the east side with the former Lackawanna line to Bison (Yard), Buffalo Creek Junction, the end of Yard Limits and junction with the former Conrail, at CP Draw (MP 2.4), where Two Main Tracks, CTC, start, across the movable bridge voer a river, to the yard at Buffalo Junction (MP 2.0) and onward connections to other routes at FW Tower.
