At Weso, just east of Winnemucca, the paired track with the former WP starts and continues eastward through the Humboldt River valley, sometime widely spaced, sometimes close. CTC ends at Weso, and the line continues as "Double Track" (i.e. the Paired Tracks), Automatic Block Signals. This description covers only Track 1, the original CP and later SP line.

From Weso (MP 420.9 on this track), the line turns east, with speed limit 70-60, past a spur heading away on the south side, and Tule (MP 422.8), and then southeast, past I-80 adjacent to the south, for a short distance, a dirt road grade crossing, a detector at MP 427.3, where the speed limit is 55-50, a spur at Golconda (MP 434.0), where the speed limit rises to 70-60 again, and the line turns curvily east, a detector at MP 437.7, the Humboldt River alongside to the south, an acute angle grade crossing, and Preble (MP 439.3), one of two locations where the line has been relocated northward from the original CP alignment.

The line turns southeast, past a deck girder bridge over the river, Iron Point (MP 448.1), a detector at MP 452.0, where the second relocated section starts, a grade crossing, a spur on the south side at Valmy (MP 457.5), where a connector from the place of the same name on the ex-WP line connects in on the north side, a dirt road grade crossing, I-80 parallel off to the south, a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, a west-facing spur on the south side at Mote (MP 465.3), a dirt road grade crossing, a detector at MP 469.9, a grade crossing in "town", the 6,500 ft. north side siding at Battle Mountain (MP 475.8), with two grade crossings within the siding, where the line turns east again, and the 3 ft. gauge Nevada Central once left to the south, a spur on the south side at the east end of the siding, a spur on the south side just to the east of the siding, and a grade crossing.

There was once a detector at MP 479.7, and the line turns north-northeast past two dirt track grade crossings, a dirt road alongside to the south, and a dirt road grade crossing, to the spur at Argenta (MP 487.7), east past a detector at MP 491.0, where the speed limit has fallen to 60 mph, a west-facing extra track on the south side, Mosel (MP 492.9), a dirt road grade crossing, I-80 just off to the south, the west end of a spur on the south side heading away, a 3-4 track spur from a facility on the south side trailing in, a spur to a facility on the south side, Jayhawk (MP 497.7), where the speed limit rises to 79-60, a road bridge overhead, and Intermediate Signals at Shoshone (MP 498.3), where the line turns south,

The line passes the location of a former detector at MP 498.6, dual I-80 road bridges overhead, a box on the south side labeled "Whirlwind", a dirt track grade crossing, and Intermediate Signals, and south-southeast to a grade crossing Beowawe (MP 508.2), where the speed limit drops to 55-50, Track 2 comes quite close on the north side, and there are crossovers between the two.

The line curves east, in flat desert scrub with hills off to the sides, past a detector at MP 512.5, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, and a dirt track grade crossing, into Palisade Canyon, where the speed limit falls to 50 mph, past two slide fences on the south side of the line, an embankment, a cut-off arm of the river to the south, Harney (MP 517.0), a through truss bridge over the Humboldt River, a rocky cutting, a bridge over the river, a through truss bridge over the river, a dirt track grade crossing, a bridge over the river, the crossovers at Barth (MP 520.3), a spur on the south side to a quarry, a cut-off stretch of the river to the south, a cutting or ledge on the hillside, a cut-off stretch of the river to the south, and two successive bridges over the river.

The line again crosses over the Humboldt River, on a through truss bridge, passes beneath the ex-WP line (Track 2, a rail bridge overhead in a cutting), turns northeast with the river between the tracks,  crosses the river again on a through truss bridge with an adjacent through truss bridge on the former WP track now to the south, crosses the route of the former narrow gauge Eureka & Palisade, passes through 874 ft.
