Flomaton to Montgomery

From wye with the PD subdivision heading south to Pensacola, a spur heading away on the south side, and the Southern Alabama subdivision heading away on the north side, at Flomaton (MP 607.0), the M&M sub. continues east-northeast, Two Main Tracks, CTC, maximum speed 79 mph for passenger trains, 60 mph for intermodal trains and 50 mph for other freight trains, but local speed restriction 30 mph to MP 605.7, past Welka (MP 603.3), where the line reduces to single track, a 65/50 mph from MP 602.4 to MP 602.1, as the line turns northeast, Pollard, a detector at MP 600.9, a 60-car dual-ended spur at Keego (MP 598.0), a spur on the north side for the Jefferson Smurfit Plant, a 62-car dual-ended spur on the north side for Container Corporation (MP 596.4), a spur on the north side for Fritcar, a 30 mph speed restriction through Brewton, from MP 593.6 to MP 592.9, the 5,500 ft. siding at Brewton (MP 592.7), a 75/50 mph speed restriction from MP 590.3 to MP 587.7, and a spur on the south side for the T.R. Miller Forest Products mill.

The line turns north, past Kirkland, the 10,780 ft. west side siding at Castleberry (MP 580.1), where there is a spur on the west side, a detector at MP 575.5, and Sparta, turning north-northeast, with a 60/50 mph speed restriction from MP 575.1 to MP 574.5 and a 50 mph speed restriction from MP570.9 to MP 568.8, past the 3,080 ft. east side siding at Evergreen (MP 569.0), where there is a spur on the east side, and a 45 mph speed restriction from MP 568.8 to MP 568.3, through Evergreen, a 50 mph speed restriction from MP 568.3 to MP 563.0, and a 55/50 mph speed restriction, from MP 563.0 to MP 554.3, as the line turns just east of due north, northeast, past Owassa, north-northeast, east to the 5,775 ft. east side siding at Wilcox (MP 560.9), where there is a spur on the east side, east-northeast, east, north to a 20-car south-facing spur at Garland (MP 554.8), and northeast.

Full line speeds prevail past a detector at MP 554.2, Dunham, a 75/50 mph speed restriction from MP 549.2 to MP 547.4, the 9,955 ft. east side siding at Georgiana (MP 548.2), where the Alabama & Florida (former L&N) line from Andalusia and Samson trails in on the east side, and the line turns curvily just east of due north, past a 40 mph speed restriction, through Georgiana, from MP 547.4 to MP 547.1, a 70/50 mph speed restriction, from MP 547.1 to MP 538.2, a 67-car dual-ended spur at Chapman (MP 543.9), Bolling, a 65/50 mph speed restriction, from MP 538.2 to MP 537.5, a 55/50 mph speed restriction, from MP 537.5 to MP 537.3, and a 60/50 mph speed restriction from MP 537.3 to MP 536.3, after which full line speeds prevail past Wald, a 55/50 mph speed restriction from MP 533.8 to MP 515.8, after which full line speeds prevail, and the 4,015 ft. west side siding at Greenville (MP 532.5).

The line turns north, past a detector at MP 530.4, curvily just east of due north, past the 10,230 ft. east side siding at Searcy (MP 526.0), where there is a spur on the east side, Fort Deposit, the 9,735 ft. east side siding at Calhoun (MP 514.5), where there is a spur on the east side and the line turns north-northeast, a detector at MP 508.2, a 40-car south-facing spur at Letohatchie (MP 508.1), Tyson, where a shortline once trailed in from the west, the 6,875 ft. west side siding at McGeehees (MP 497.6), where there is a north-facing spur to Interstate Industrial Park on the east side (MP 496.9), within the siding, a north-facing spur at Southmont (MP 493.3), a spur on the west side to Catoma Industrial Park, Catoma (MP 492.8), and a 60/50 mph speed restriction, from MP 490.0 to MP 488.9.

A line from the Maxwell Storage Annex trails in on the west side, a former Atlantic Coast Line line comes alongside to the east, there is a turn east-northeast, with a 40/30 mph speed restriction from MP 488.9 to MP 488.1, where a former Western Railway of Alabama line trails in from the southwest at M&M Junction, a 25 mph speed restriction, from MP 488.1 to MP 487.8, the junction at Bell Street, where a former Mobile & Ohio line trails in from the north side and the former ACL joins from the south side, the Amtrak stop at Union Station, with its overall roof and depot to the southeast, off the main line to the southeast, a 40/30 mph speed restriction, from MP 487.8 to MP 485.0, the junction at Montgomery, where a former Seaboard Airline line heads northeast, the former Western of Alabama heads north and the former L&N turns just west of due north, and a turn north-northwest, where a connector from those other two lines trails in from the east, to S&N Yard (MP 485.0).
