Memphis Junction to Amqui

From Memphis Junction (MP 118.1), where the Memphis Branch (all that CSX still owns of the line to Memphis, now owned by RJ Corman) leaves on the west side, the main line continues south-southwest, single track, CTC, maximum speed 60 mph for intermodal trains and 50 mph for other freight trains, past Sanderson (MP118.7), Rich Pond, a grade crossing, trees to the east, a detector at "Woodburn" (MP 125.8), and the 7,065 ft. east side siding at Salmon (MP 130.1), with a street alongside to the east, turning just east of due south, past a 25 mph speed restriction through Franklin (MP 133.0 to MP 135.3), the 27-car dual-ended spur for grain silos on the west side, north of a grade crossing in the siding at Franklin (MP 134.0), a 50 mph speed restriction from MP 136.0 to MP 136.2, Geddes, the border between Kentucky and Tennessee, the 7,175 ft. west side siding at Mitchellville (MP 140.5), the 18-car dual-ended spur at MP 140.8, and the 35-car north-facing spur at Portland (MP 144.5).

There is a detector at "Fountain Head" (MP 146.7), and the line turns southeast, and then just east of due south, with a 50 mph speed restriction from MP 148.0 to MP 148.7, past the 6,845 ft. west side siding at Buck Lodge (MP 149.3), a road alongside to the west, the 1-car north-facing spur at MP 149.6, a 30 mph speed restriction from MP 152.2 to MP 154.8 through South Tunnel and the eponymous tunnel, a 50 mph speed restriction from MP 154.8 to MP 158.4, and the 6,075 ft. east side siding at Gallatin (MP 158.0), with two extra tracks to the east, two extra tracks to the west, and a grade crossing across the siding, south of the extra tracks.

A spur to the TVA Gallatin Steam Plant on the Cumberland River, a destination for unit coal trains, heads south, and the line turns curvily west-southwest, past the 70-car south-facing spur at MP 158.4, a 30 mph speed restriction through Gallatin, from MP 158.4 to MP 159.4, the 13-car dual-ended spur at MP 158.7, the 5-car south-facing spur at MP 159.3, a 50 mph speed restriction from MP 159.4 to MP 170.8, a bridge over a road, and Pertona (MP 162.8), turning south-southwest to Avondale, curvily west-southwest past a detector at "Pilot Knob" (MP 164.3), a 40 mph speed restriction at the Old Shackle Road grade crossing (MP 170.8) in Hendersonville, a 50 mph speed restriction from MP 170.8 to MP 174.0, Rockland, where the line turns just north of due west, a 45 mph speed restriction from MP 173.5 to MP 176.9, the start of Yard Limits and Two Main Tracks at Montfort (MP 174.7), where the line turns curvily west-southwest and the maximum speed becomes 50 mph for all trains, but local restrictions prevail, Edenwold, where it turns southwest, and Amqui (MP 176.8), where the line from Evansville trails in from the north (i.e., on the west side) and the line turns south-southwest.
