Hoosick Junction to East Deerfield

From Hoosick Junction, CPF-445 (MP 445.18), where a Vermont Railway line heads east, single track, CTC, resumes, on the main line, maximum speed 40 mph, past Hoosick Falls (MP 443.20), Hoosick (MP 440.19), and Petersburgh Junction, where an erstwhile Rutland Railroad line once crossed, turning east-southeast, past the border between New York State and Vermont and North Pownal, CPF-434 (MP 433.72), where double track, current-of-traffic (Rule-251) starts, with a 10 mph speed restriction on Track 1 and the line turns southeast, past Pownal (MP 431.43), a 30 mph speed restriction on Track 2, from MP 431 to MP 430, the border between Vermont and Massachusetts, Williamstown, CPF-428 (MP 427.71), where single track, CTC, resumes, with a 30 mph speed restriction to MP 427, where full line speed prevails, Blackinton, where the line turns curvily east, North Adams, CPF-423 (MP 422.58), where Two Main Tracks, CTC, start, with a 30 mph speed restriction and a branch to Adams departs to the south, CPF-421 (MP 421.08), where single track, CTC, resumes for the passage of the 4.7 mile Hoosac Tunnel, Central Shaft Hoosac Tunnel (MP 418.15), and Hoosac Tunnel, CPF-415 (MP 415.40), east of the tunnel, where Two Main Tracks, CTC, start, with a 10 mph speed restriction on Track 2.

The line turns very curvily east-southeast, as it starts the descent to the east of the tunnel, past CPF-414 (MP 413.70), where single track, CTC, resumes, with a 35 mph speed restriction, Zoar (MP 410.88), and Charlemont (MP 407.36), where it turns curvily east, past CPF-406 (MP 406.40), where double track starts, CTC on Track 2, current-of-traffic (Rule-251) on Track 1, Buckland (MP 401.46), and MP 401, where the speed restriction falls to 30 mph and the line turns curvily just east of due south, still on the descent to the Connecticut River Valley, past Shelburne Falls (MP 398.39), CPF-398 (MP 398.26), where single track, CTC, resumes, Shelburne Junction, where an erstwhile New Haven branch once left on the west side to head south, Bardwell (MP 393.68), and Smith River (MP 392.28), where the line turns north-northeast, past MP 392, where the speed restriction rises to 35 mph, and MP 390, where full line speed prevails, CPF-389 (MP 388.82), where Two Main Tracks, CTC, start.

There is a 30 mph speed restriction, from MP 386.16 to MP 384, as the line turns south-southeast, past Greenfield (MP 385.36), the junction with a connector coming south (on the northeast side) from the Connecticut River Main Line at CPF-385 (MP 385.22), where single track, CTC, resumes, and a turn east, with a 10 mph speed restriction, from MP 384 to East Limit CPF-383, passing beneath a bridge carrying the Connecticut River Main Line, past a former crossing with an erstwhile New Haven line, CPF-384 (MP 383.65), where a connector north from the Connecticut River Main Line trails in from the south and a spur once headed away north, and  East Deerfield (MP 382.70).
