Sebring to Miami

From Sebring (MP 867.2), with extra track to the west, and platform, umbrella shed, and depot to the east, where that ex-ACL line trailed in on the west side, and the Sebring sub. (ex-ACL) departs on the west side, continuing south, the main line turns east, single track, CTC, with overall speed limit 79 mph for passenger trains, 70 mph for intermodal trains, and 60 mph for freight trains, but with a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 866.5 and MP 867.5, through Sebring, and a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 867.5 and MP 868.0, through largely flat grassland, past the 7,376 ft. south side siding (25 mph) at Ridge (MP 870.6), Intermediate Signals, the south-facing spur on the south side at Sebring Industrial Park/Airport (MP 874.0), where the line turns east-southeast, a bridge over a stream, Intermediate Signals at MP 377.x, an angled grade crossing, a grade crossing, an angled grade crossing at an intersection, Lorida (where Lake Istokpoga lies to the south), Intermediate Signals, a road alongside mto the north, an angled grade crossing, and the 8,992 ft. south side siding (25 mph) at Plains (MP 884.1).

There is a dirt track grade crossing, a bridge over a river, Intermediate Signals, a detector at Cornwell (MP 888.7), Intermediate Signals at MP 889.x, a grade crossing, a bridge over drainage, the 7,289 ft. south side siding (25 mph) at Ft. Basinger (MP 892.3),  with a dirt track grade crossing within the siding, a dirt road alongside to the west, a bridge over a river, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, Intermediate Signals at MP 898.x, a dirt road grade crossing, the 7,268 ft. south side siding (25 mph) at Mildred (MP 901.9), Intermediate Signals at MP 905.x, a turn east, with a spur on the curve to silos west of the line, a grade crossing, and the 6,744 ft. siding at Okeechobee (MP 908.7), where a Florida East Coast line once crossed on the flat, with a grade crossing, a spur on the south side trailing in, a spur to silos on the north side, an old wooden depot on the north side, a grade crossing just east of the depot, and two spurs on the south side, all within the siding.

The line turns southeast, past a bridge over a stream, four grade crossings, dual road bridges overhead, Intermediate Signals and a detector at MP 911.2, two grade crossings, a bridge over  drainage, a road alongside to the north, a grade crossing, a river alongside to the north, turning away, the 7,278 ft. north side siding (25 mph) at Sherman (MP 914.1), Intermediate Signals at MP 917.x, a bridge over drainage, a dirt track grade crossing, the north-facing spur at Frederick (MP 921.4), the angled flat crossing with the FEC at Marcy (MP 922.2), the 9,136 ft. south side siding at Zana (MP 925.2), with a grade crossing within the siding, a grade crossing, drainage alongside to the south, Intermediate Signals, a dirt track grade crossing, a grade crossing, a detector at MP 931.3, the wye with a spur crossing the road on the south side to the Indiantown Cogeneration Plant at Steel (MP 933.1), a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, stubby trees to the south, a spur curving away south, and the 9,421 ft. south side siding (25 mph) at Indiantown (MP 936.3), with extra track to the south and a grade crossing within the siding.

There is a grade crossing, a speed restriction of 45 mph on the signaled St. Lucie Canal Drawbridge between MP 937.2 and MP 937.3, a grade crossing at the south end of the bridge, the south-facing spur at Hinson Spur (MP 937.3), Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing for a driveway, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 942.x, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 945.x, a grade crossing, drainage to the south, the 7,027 ft. south side siding at United (MP 948.3), with a north-facing spur on the north side at Palm Center, within the siding, a grade crossing, a road alongside to the north, drainage to the south, Intermediate Signals at MP 952.x, a detector at MP 952.1, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, a divded road alongside to the north, the 7,538 ft. south side siding (25 mph) at Delta (MP 955.7),  a grade crossing, an angled grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a divided grade crossing, and a road bridge overhead.

There is a north-facing spur on the south side at New Dyer (MP 963.4), the 4,022 ft. south side siding at Dyer (MP 963.7), two spurs curving away south serving industries to the south, a divided grade crossing, a wide road bridge overhead, a bridge over drainage, the wye with north-facing spur on the north side at Mission Spur (MP 965.6), dual road bridges overhead, a speed restriction of 55 mph between MP  965.6 and MP 968.8, through Mangonia Park, the start of Two Main Tracks, CTC, a Tri-Rail station (platform with umbrella shed on the south side) at Mongonia Park. a grade crossing, an angled grade crossing, two grade crossings, signals and crossovers, two grade crossings, a street alongside to the south, and a grade crossing, and the line turns south with a grade crossing at 45th Street on the turn as the “Gold Coast" is reached, and the line runs through urban areas, just inland from the Atlantic Ocean (but with the Florida East Coast Railroad closer to the ocean), the rest of the way to Miami, past a grade crossing, a north-facing spur to the west, MP 968, a grade crossing, and a south-facing spur to the west.

The line has a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 968.8 and MP 969.6, through West Palm Beach, signals and crossovers, a grade crossing at 15th Street, a grade crossing at 7th Street, a speed restriction of 20 mph between MP 969.6 and MP 970.2, through West Palm Beach, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 969.8,West Palm Beach (MP 969.9), where there is a passenger station with two side platforms with umbrella sheds, a footbridge, and a depot to the east, a street to the west, extra track on the west side, a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 970.2 and MP 971.9, through West Palm Beach, a grade crossing, an acute-angled grade crossing, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 971.2, and a passenger speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 971.9 and MP 977.8.

The line curves southwest, past the Palm Beach Airport Tri-Rail station and three road bridges overhead, and then south again, past a grade crossing, four road bridges overhead, a grade crossing, a south-facing spur to the west, a road bridge overhead, a detector at MP 973.2, three grade crossings, a road bridge overhead, a grade crossing, two extra tracks to the west,  a Tri-Rail station (two side platforms and footbridge) at Lake Worth (MP 976.5), the south-facing spur at Lantana (MP 978.9), a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 982.2 and MP 982.5, signals and crossovers, two grade crossings, a passenger speed restriction of 75 mph between MP 982.5 and MP 983.9, Intermediate Signals, two road bridges overhead, A Tri-Rail station (two side platforms) at Boynton Beach (MP 983.0), a road bridge overhead, a south-facing spur to the west, a bridge over a canal, a road bridge overhead, signals and crossovers at Coconut, a grade crossing, two road bridges overhead, a closed grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 984.6, two bridges over canals, a passenger speed restriction of 70 mph between MP 985.4 and MP 987.4, a grade crossing, a bridge over a canal, a grade crossing, and a south-facing spur to the west.

There is a passenger station (two side platforms with umbrella sheds, footbridge) at Delray Beach (MP 987.5), signals and crossovers just south of the station, two grade crossings, extra track to the west, a road bridge overhead, detectors at Yamato (MP 991.5), a curve southwest past the Boca Raton Tri-Rail station (two side platforms with umbrella sheds, footbridge), and then back south again, past a road bridge overhead, signals and crossovers, a street briefly to the west, a road bridge overhead, Intermediate Signals at MP 994.8, the south-facing spur at Boca Raton (MP 994.7), two grade crossings, signals and crossovers at 'Rankin', a grade crossing, a bridge over a canal, and the 4,996 ft. west side siding at Deerfield Beach (MP 998.3), with a north-facing spur heading away west, a grade crossing, and a passenger station (two side platforms with umbrella sheds, footbridge), within the siding, a road bridge overhead, signals, two grade crossings, the Tri-Rail station (two side platforms with umbrella sheds) at Pompano Beach, a grade crossing, extra track to the west, Intermediate Signals at MP 1002.4, a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 1003.3 and MP 1011.6, through Broward County, the hand-throw crossovers at Pompano Beach (MP 1004.0), three extra tracks to the west, a grade crossing underneath a road bridge voerhead, two extra tracks to the west, a grade crossing, and extra track to the west.

The line continues past two grade crossings, extra track to the west, a bridge over a canal, a grade crossing, extra track to the west, a grade crossing just north of the Tri-Rail station (two side platforms with umbrella sheds) at Cypress Creek, a south-facing spur at Prospect Road (MP 1008.1), a dual-ended spur at Mid River (MP 1009.0), a grade crossing, detectors at MP 1009.1, extra track to the west, an angled grade crossing, two grade crossings, signals and crossovers at 30th Street Crossovers, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at Carmen (MP 1011.0), an east-facing spur to the west for Brick America,  a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 1011.6 and MP 1014.0, through Fort Lauderdale, two grade crossings, a road bridge overhead, Fort Lauderdale (MP 1012.3), where there is a passenger station (depot the west, platforms with umbrella sheds, footbridge), a spur on the west side, a road bridge overhead, spurs trailing in to the west, extra track to the west, a road bridge overhead, elevated track, a detector at MP 1013.2, three road bridges overhead, four road ramps overhead, two extra tracks to the west, the start of single track before the bridge, the through girder South Fork New River Drawbridge (MP 1014.0), with speed restriction 45 mph, signals at 'South Danese', (where Two Main Tracks resume?) a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 1014.0 and MP 1019.0, through Broward County, and Port Everglades Junction, where there was once a wye on the east side with a line heading east to the eponymous harbor.

There is a grade crossing, the Tri-Rail station (depot to the west, platforms with umbrella shed) at Dania (MP 1016.4), a pond/lake to the west, a grade crossing at Sterling Road (MP 1017.2), an industry with a (former?) spur to the west, a grade crossing, a bridge over a canal, signals at 'Sheridan', a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 1019.0 and MP 1021.6, through Hollywood, a Tri-Rail station at 'Suburban Street' (platforms with umbrella sheds, footbridge), a grade crossing, a bridge over a canal, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 1019.2, Hollywood (MP 1019.7), where there is a passenger station (depot to the west, two side platforms with umbrella sheds, footbridge), a grade crossing, a golf course to the west, two grade crossings, a dual-ended spur at Hallandale (MP 1021.5), Intermediate Signals at MP 1022.1, a wide road bridge overhead, and a grade crossing,  and the line turns southwest, past crossovers at 'Hardy', crossovers? end of 2MT? at Miami Plantation (MP 1025.7), a bridge over a canal, two spurs to the west, the Tri-Rail station (east-side platform) at Golden Glades, a speed restriction of 60 mph between MP 1028.3 and MP 1028.9, start of 2MT? ('Golden Pines'), a road bridge overhead, extra track to the west, dual road bridges overhead, a speed restriction of 45 mph between MP 1028.9 and MP 1031.6, through Opa-Locka,  a road bridge overhead, dual road bridges overhead, extra track and a trailing spur to the west, a bridge over drainage, four grade crossings, and crossovers? at Opa-Locka (MP 1030.0), where there is a Tri-Rail station (platform to the east).

The line turns south, past a grade crossing, a spur to industry to the west, three road bridge overhead, a yard lead to the west, a signal bridge at MP 1031.6, where Yard Limits and a speed restriction of 20 mph starts at the north end of Hialeah Yard (four track to the west of the double-track main line at this point), a bridge over drainage, a road bridge overhead, 6+ tracks to the west, where the Amtrak Lead starts on the east side, Hialeah Yard (MP 1033.2), with five coach tracks between the Amtrak lead and the main line, then four locomotive facility tracks with a shed open on the sides, between the Amtrak lead and the main line, a grade crossing, the Amtrak Station in Miami (MP 1033.7), adjacent to the east side of the yard, with a stub-end track to the east, a platform with two tracks, and a pre-fabricated depot to the east of the main track, the Tri-Rail station (two side platforms, umbrella sheds) at Metro Transfer, with a road bridge and a bridge carrying the Miami Metro overhead, the flat crossing with the FEC at MP 1034.2, the Tri-Rail station at Hialeah Market, the 10,400 ft. east side siding at Hialeah (MP 1036.3), where a line curves west to Oleander (and then south to Homestead), the Tri-Rail Miami Airport station is straight ahead, and a line curves east to the former SAL station at Miami (MP 1040.0).
