Anniston to Austell

At the station at Anniston (MP 735.0), which has umbrella shed on the platform on the main line and a depot on the east side, in the vee of the main line and the spur from the north, three extra tracks and three yard tracks on the west side, and a spur of the former L&N from Fort McClellan trailing in from the north on the east side of the line, where the speed limit is 25 mph over the track connections, a spur trails in from the northwest, the two track NS line to Talladega diverges to the south (on the west side), and a 6,416 ft. siding starts. There is a bridge over a stream, a grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, and a grade crossing. The single track, ABS, speed limit 45 mph, line turns east with extra track on the south/west side, at Lardent (MP 733.4), where there is a signal bridge, dual road bridges overhead, the siding ends and the speed limit rises to 50-45, east-northeast, with speed limit 55-50. There is an Appalachian ridge just east of Anniston, which this routing curves around the south end of, past a grade crossing, a spur in from the northwest (on the north side of the line), Intermediate Signals at MP 731.x, a road bridge overhead, a detector at MP 730.2, De Armanville (MP 729.1), where there is extra track on the north side and a 9,674 ft. siding on the south side begins, Ardrey (MP 727.1), where that siding ends, a dirt road grade crossing, tow grade crossings, and Intermediate Signals at Choccolocco (MP 724.x), where the speed limit rises to 75-50, southeast past Intermediate Signals at Iron City, where the speed limit falls to 55-50, and a grade crossing, east across part of that Appalachian ridge, south with speed limit 35 mph, east past Intermediate Signals at Cleburne (MP 719.3), where the speed limit rises to 45-40, a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, extra track on the south side, a detector at MP 718.2, and three grade crossings, and northeast at Heflin (MP 716.3), where there is extra track on the south side and an 11,090 ft. siding on the south side begins, with speed limit falling to 40 mph, a grade crossing within the siding, a spur trailing in on the south side within the siding, and Owens (MP 714.1), where the siding ends.

Continuing curvily northeast through rolling hills, the line passes Intermediate Signals at MP 712.x, a grade crossing, a bridge over a stream and road, far below, Edwardsville (MP 710.4), where a 10,274 ft. siding on the south side starts with speed limit 45-40, a dirt road grade crossing, a road bridge overhead, a dirt track grade crossing, a grade crossing, and Foster (MP 708.4), where it ends with a signal bridge over the main and siding, and turns curvily east, through thick woods, past a detector at MP 707.4, a bridge over a stream, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at Fruithurst, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at Muscadine (MP 703.2), a grade crossing and a dirt road grade crossing, north and east again, with speed limit 35 mph and extra track on the south side, southeast, descending to the east with speed limit 55-50, entering Georgia (Intermediate Signals at State Line), past a stream alongside to the south, Intermediate Signals and a detector at Tallapoosa Hill (MP 697.9), northeast for a short distance, then north and east, past extra track on the south side, across at least two of the five grade crossings to Tallapoosa (MP 695.2), where an 11,744 ft. siding on the north side starts, with a signal bridge over the main and siding, and  the speed limit falls to 45 mph and then 40 mph, south and east past a bridge over a road, a grade crossing, a road alongside to the north, a spur curving away to the south, a golf course on the south side, and Hubbard (MP 692.7), where that siding ends, with a signal bridge over the main and siding, and the speed limit falls to 35 mph for the curving descent, south past a grade crossing, east past a road bridge overhead, south past a grade crossing, a spur into silos with cattle grids across the sidings, on the north side of the line, Intermediate Signals at Bucksport, a grade crossing,  a detector at MP 689.0, and a grade crossing, east past Intermediate Signals at Waco, where the speed limit rises to 40 mph, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, a bridge over a divided main highway, and a road alongside to the north, and east-northeast, past a grade crossing at Sewell Road, into Bremen (MP 685.0), where there is extra track on the north side, a street alongside to the south and to the north, a grade crossing, a bridge over a road, a spur heading northeast, the ex-Central of Georgia line between Rome and Macon crosses at grade (speed limit 30 mph on the crossing), and an 11,065 ft. siding on the north side starts, east of the flat crossing, with a signal bridge over the siding and main line.

The line continues curvily east through rolling hills, with speed limit 50-45, past MP 684, a grade crossing, MP 683, a road bridge overhead, Sewell (MP 682.7), where the siding ends, with a signal bridge over the siding and main line, and the speed limit falls to 40 mph, a road alongside to the north, a dirt road grade crossing, a detector at MP 680.6, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at Morgan, where the speed limit falls to 35 mph, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing at MP 679, and a dirt road grade crossing, turns south past SR 113 still alongside to the north, a grade crossing, Temple (MP 677.5), where there is a street alongside to the south, a spur on the north side,  a 9,445 ft. siding on the north side starts (with a signal bridge over the siding) and the speed limit rises to 45 mph, with three grade crossings within the siding, southeast and northeast to Taylor (MP 675.5), where the siding ends (with a signal bridge over the siding), east, with speed limit 40 mph and then 35 mph to MP 674.0, where it rises to 50 mph and then 75-55, past Intermediate Signals (MP 672.x), a grade crossing, a detector at MP 671.6, where the speed limit falls to 55 mph and then 45-40, a spur heading off to the northeast, two grade crossings, a dirt track grade crossing, a track trailing in from the northwest, a grade crossing, and Villa Rica (MP 669.9), where US 78 is alongside to the south and a street alongside to the north, the speed limit falls to 35-30, there is extra track and a 6,864 ft. siding  on the north side begins, southeast, with speed limit 35-30, past a grade crossing.

There is a spur on the north side curving into Villa Industrial Park, northeast, with speed limit 45-40, past a road bridge overhead, with kudzu on all the trees in the woods, and east to Baggett (MP 668.5), where the siding ends and the speed limit rises to 50-45, a grade crossing, a spur from the southwest trailing in on the south side, a dirt road grade crossing, Carroll (MP 666.6), where a 9,870 ft. siding on the north side begins and the speed limit falls to 35-30 as the line curves back and firth, two grade crossings, and Winston (MP 664.6), where the siding ends, with a signal bridge over the main and siding, and the speed limit rises to 45 mph, a road bridge overhead, two grade crossings, a dirt road grade crossing, a detector at MP 663.0, where the line turns east-northeast with speed limit 35 mph, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 662.x, a grade crossing (SR 92), US 78 alongside to the south, a road alongside to the north, four grade crossings, a spur and then siding on the north side at Douglasville (MP 660.4), where the speed limit rises to 50-45, a detector at Cracker (MP 657.3), where the siding ends and the speed limit rises to 55 mph, a grade crossing, two separate spurs trail in on the north side, MP 655.1, where the speed limit falls to 45-40, two grade crossings with an intersection just north of the track, a road alongside to the north, Intermediate Signals at MP 654.x, two grade crossings, a detector at MP 653.0, where the line turns east with speed limit 50 mph, a grade crossing, and Intermediate Signals at Lithia Springs, where the line turns northeast, with speed limit 45 mph, past a grade crossing, and then east-northeast with speed limit 40 mph, past another grade crossing, a spur trailing in on the north side, a spur turning away on the north side, a roadbed for extra track trails in on the south side, and a grade crossing. The NS line from Rome and Chattanooga (two tracks, with a third being built) trails in from the northwest at Austell (MP 650.5), where there is extra track.
