LS Junction (Louisville) to Lawrenceburg

From the junction at LS Junction (MP 274.9), where the connection to CSX (former L &N) at their K&I Junction continues ahead, and the Norfolk Southern turns away just east of due south, still double track, Yard Limits, with maximum speed 15 mph, rising to 20 mph at MP 275.2, turning south-southeast and becoming single track, Traffic Control (CTC), at the angled flat crossing with the former L&N at Fourth Street (MP 276.2), past a flat crossing with the former L&N line from Cincinnati at Floyd Street (MP 276.7), just south of due east and then east-southeast, with maximum speed rising to 45 mph at MP 277.4 and a 35 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 278.0 to MP 279.6, past Prestonia (MP 278.2), start of the 6,934 ft. north side siding, turning just north of due east to Dumesnil (MP 279.6) and a 35 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 279.6 to MP 279.8.

Yard Limits start at MP 279.8, past the yard on the south side at Whitner (MP 280.9), where there is a grade crossing at Produce Road (MP 281.3), a spur south to Appliance Park at MP 282.5, Buechel (MP 283.0), and the end of Yard Limits at MP 283.1, where Track Warrant Control, Automatic Block Signals, starts, as the line continues curvily just north of due east, past the westward downgrade between MP 283.0 and MP 286.4, a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 284.9 to MP 287.7, a detector at MP 286.1, the eastward downgrade between MP 290.0 and MP 293.0, Jeffersontown (MP 297.2), and the spur to Bluegrass Industrial Park at Bluegrass (MP 287.7), jogging south-southeast and then east again with a 35 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 287.7 to MP 292.7 and a westward downgrade between MP 288.0 and MP 290.0, past the 10,472 ft. north side siding at Tucker (MP 289.7).

There is a jog southeast and then east again, with a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 292.7 to MP 299.8, past a trestle at Pope Lick (MP 292.5), a detector at MP 293.4, Fisherville (MP 293.8), and a trestle over Floyds Fork Creek (MP 294.0), a turn curvily just north of due east past the westward downgrade between MP 294.0 and MP 298.0, a 35 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 299.8 to MP 303.1, Veechdale (MP 300.7), and a detector at MP 301.2, turning just south of due east, with a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 303.1 to MP 307.5, past the 9,998 ft. south side siding at Joyes (MP 303.9), the flat crossing (35 mph on the crossing) with the CSX (former L&N) branch south to Logan (and formerly to Bloomfield) at MP 307.2, and a 35 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 307.5 to MP 308.1, turning curvily southeast, with a 30 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 308.1 to MP 308.6, past Shelbyville (MP 308.4), a 35 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 308.6 to MP 324.2, the trestle at Guist Creek (MP 311.6), and Hooper, and south past a detector at MP 312.4.

The line turns just north of due east for the westward downgrade between MP 316.0 and MP 318.0, past Hemp Ridge, where it turns east-southeast, still on the grade, past the 11,632 ft. south side siding (20 mph on the siding) at Waddy (MP 318.1), turning just east of due south and then east for the eastward downgrade between MP 320.1 and MP 322.3, on which it turns east-southeast past a detector at Avenstoke (MP 323.0), just east of due south, with a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 324.2 to MP 328.3, just north of due east, curvily southeast with a 30 mph speed restriction on radio-controlled trains from MP 327.3 to MP 350.6, past Alton, a 35 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 328.3 to MP 328.6, and south-southeast with a 40 mph speed restriction on curves from MP 328.6 to MP 338.9, past the 10,266 ft. north side siding at Coal Chute (MP 330.5) and the junction with the former Southern line east to Lexington (now NS only to the power plant on the east side of Young's High Bridge over the Kentucky River), at Lawrenceburg (MP 331.0), where the main line turns south.
