Picacho to Tucson

Picacho has two sidings, one on each side of the tracks, with the one on the north side being 8,677 ft. long, and the one on the south side 8,754 ft, long, between MP 936.7 and MP 938.4. The line continues southeastward, with speed limits 79-70, Two Main Tracks, CTC, passing a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 939.5, a bridge over drainage, a detector and Intermediate Signals at MP 941.4, a grade crossing, the return to single track at Wymola (MP 944.6), where the line turns south-southeast (with signs of construction of a new second track, in May 2012), a bridge over drainage, a volcanic intrusion towers off to the west (Picacho Peak), three bridges over drainage, a bridge over drainage adjacent to Intermediate Signals, a bridge over drainage, a grade crossing, the 8,337 ft. north/east side siding at Red Rock (MP 950.2-952.0), where the Arizona Southern Railroad once headed west-southwest, with three bridges over drainage and a grade crossing within the siding, two bridges over drainage, and signals at Avra (MP 953.5), where there is a TEPCO Power Plant on the east side of the line.

There is a detector at MP 954.5, a grade crossing, four bridges over drainage, a grade crossing, a bridge over drainage, the 8,445 ft. south/west side siding at Naviska (MP 957.0-958.7), where a spur to Pinal Airpark heads west, with a bridge over drainage within the siding, a dirt track grade crossing, a bridge over drainage, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing, a detector and Intermediate Signals at MP 961.7, Marana (MP 962.2), six bridges over drainage, a grade crossing, a grade crossing (Tangerine Road), the 8,372 ft. south/west side siding at Rillito (MP 965.7-967.4) where the signs of second track construction ended, in May 2012, with a spur from the Arizona Portland Cement plant west of I-10, which is alongside to the south/west, trailing in, a grade crossing,  and a road bridge overhead, within the siding, two bridges over drainage, Plata (MP 968.2), two bridges over drainage, a grade crossing, two bridges over drainage, a detector at MP 969.9, two bridges over drainage, Contaro, a detector at MP 971.6, two grade crossings, and a grade crossing with an east-west street.

The 8,195 ft. siding at Kino (MP 974.1-975.8), where the speed limit falls to 75-70, is on the south/west side of the line, with a bridge over drainage within the siding, followed by a grade crossing, a detector at MP 976.4, a bridge over a dry river, Jaynes (MP 977.4), a grade crossing at the west end of the 7,890 ft. north/east siding at Stockham (MP 977.8-979.4), with detectors at MP 979.1 within the siding, where the speed limit falls to 50 mph, a frontage road to the west with I-10 beyond it, a grade crossing with an east-west street, a bridge over drainage, Petrie (MP 981.2), where Two Main Tracks, CTC, start, dual road bridges overhead (I-10), three bridges over drainage, a bridge over an east-west street, a bridge over drainage, a highway alongside to the west, crossovers at South Yard (MP 982.8), where the speed limit falls to 40 mph, and the El Paso & Southwestern line owned by Phelps Dodge once headed away to the south, and a minor street alongside to the west.

At Tucson, there is a grade crossing with a north-south street east of MP 983, a grade crossing with an east-west street, a bridge over an arroyo, a grade crossing with an east-west street, a bridge over a street, a grade crossing with a north-south street, a bridge over an angled street (north-south?), a museum (with stuffed-and-mounted former SP 2-6-0 1673) at the north end of the passenger station,  with depot refurbished in 2004, and fenced platform on the west side of the tracks at MP 983.9. South of the station, there are two bridges over streets, the line turns southeast, Tucson Yard, with on-line fuel rack, is on the southwest side of the line, with the former location of SP Shops also on the southwest side, a bridge over a divided street, and extra track on the southwest side, beyond which (at  the crossovers at Cherry Avenue, MP 985.2, where there is a road bridge overhead) is the junction with the line to Mexico, that heads away due south, with the connection trailing into the main line.

There was once a junction with that line at T&N Junction, and there is a spur on the southwest side at Arizona Petroleum, three yard tracks on the west end of a large yard on the southwest side of the line, a bridge over drainage, a road bridge overhead, a pedestrian bridge overhead, nine yard tracks close to the main line with four to five more yard tracks beyond them, then at least twelve tracks in the main yard, and later seven tracks at the east end, with crossovers at PFE Yard (MP 986.6), followed by a road bridge overhead, three extra tracks on the south side, and a cantilever signal bridge at  36th Street (MP 987.7), where the SP "North Line" once continued southeast but today's main line turns south to cut over to the erstwhile EP&SW right-of-way once known as the "South Line".
