Jasper to Birmingham

From the flat crossing with the Norfolk Southern line from Sheffield to Birmingham (once jointly Illinois Central) at NS (MP 693.7), and the junction (north side connector) with that line at Jasper (MP 693.8), where the stub of an Alabama Central line heads north and the former IC jointedness moves from the NS to the BNSF line, the latter heads east, single track, CTC, maximum speed 60 mph, but local  45 mph speed restriction to MP 699.3, past a detector at MP 694.3, a turn south with a 1.25% upgrade, a turn east, past a detector at MP 696.5, and a turn curvily south-southeast, past the 7,634 ft. siding (10 mph on the turnouts and siding) at Alma (MP 698.4), a 40 mph speed restriction, from MP 699.3 to MP 699.7, a detector at MP 699.7, a 45 mph speed restriction, from MP 699.7 to MP 701.3, a 1.25% upgrade, a 30 mph speed restriction, from MP 701.3 to MP 708.2, the 65-car dual-ended spur at Cordova (MP 701.5), the 6,316 ft. siding (10 mph on the turnouts and siding) at Benoit (MP 703.5), a detector at MP 704.6, Samoset, anda detector at MP 707.0.

The line turns south, with a 35 mph speed restriction, from MP 708.2 to MP 715.0, past Dora, Bergens, where an erstwhile branch once trailed in from the northeast, a detector at MP 709.9, a bridge over the former Southern line form Sheffield, with a 1.25% ruling grade in both directions, Wyatt, North Quinton (MP 712.3), a bridge carrying a former L&N line overhead, South Quinton (MP 714.4), and a detector at MP 714.5, turning very curvily southeast, with a 30 mph speed restriction, from MP 715.0 to MP 724.8, past Palos (MP 715.2), Bessie Junction, wehre a spur to the Alabama Power Miller Plant trails in on the south side and an erstwhile line from bessie once trailed in from the north, a detector at MP 716.1, Parkville, Lindbergh, a detector at MP 719.9, the 6,826 ft. siding (10 mph on the turnouts and siding) at Adamsville (MP 722.3), and a detector at MP 723.9.

There is a 35 mph speed restriction, from MP 724.8 to MP 728.0, past the 8,032 ft. siding (10 mph on the turnouts and siding) at Oakwood (MP 725.0), a 1.25% ruling grade in both directions, a 30 mph speed restriction, from MP 728.0 to MP 729.1, a detector at MP 728.1, the 52-car dual-ended spur at Wheat-Way (MP 728.2), the flat crossing with CSX, NS and Birmingham Southern at Village Creek Junction (MP 729.1), and a 25 mph speed restriction, from MP 729.1 to MP 730.2, as the line turns east-northeast at Pratt City (MP 729.3), where a line to Wade Sand & Gravel departs on the north side, past a Birmingham Southern line trailing in from the north-northwest, that once crossed and continued east, to   the yard at Birmingham (MP 730.2), start of a 10 mph IC Side Track and a 20 mph BN Side Track, both to MP 731.3, which lead to a connection north to Boyles, and a flat crossing with the former Southern line from Sheffield, between their Boyles Yard and E. Thomas Yard, with a connector in the southwest quadrant, at Block Two (MP NS 800.4), where the line heading east goes to the former L&N Boyles Yard.

The  line from the connector heads south-southeast, past the flat crossing with the former Frisco and Illinois Central, with southwest quadrant connector permitting their access to the erstwhile Terminal Station, and flat crossing with the former Central of Georgia, with southeast quadrant connector, at Block One (MP NS 799.6), the former location of the erstwhile Terminal Station, and the north apex, at Second Avenue (MP NS 798.6) of a wye with the Southern Main Line, where the former Alabama Great Southern comes in from the west-southwest at 27th Street (MP NS 798.2/AGS 142.0), and the east leg of the wye leads, inter alia, to Norris Yard.
