Capreol to Washago

From the yard at Capreol (MP 276.1), where the depot and one platform are on the south/west side, with a second platform between the tracks, with a road alongside to the south, the main line and an eight track yard on the east/north side, a dirt road grade crossing in the yard, and a line heads east to North Bay, Ottawa and Montreal, the main line turns south, past a connector from the North Bay line trailing in from the northeast, a grade crossing, two gated dirt track grade crossings, the north end at MP 273.9 of the 5,680 ft. siding on the west side at Suez (MP 273.0), a road alongside to the east, the south end at MP 272.7, two grade crossings, a detector at "Bala 270", where the speed limit is 70-60, a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, a lake on the east side, the north end of the siding, the Sudbury Spur (MP 262.3) trailing in from the northeast, a road bridge overhead, the 6,420 ft. siding on the east side, with extra track on the east side, at Sudbury (MP 262.1), Sudbury Junction, with a depot and extra track on the west side (10 km east of the town of Sudbury, itself), MP 272, the east end of the siding, a grade crossing, a road alongside to the east, a detector at MP 259.6 ("Bala 259"), MP 258, a grade crossing, a spur on the east side, a grade crossing, two bridges over streams, a dirt road grade crossing, the flat crossing with the CP Cartier sub. at MP 256.8, an old nickel smelter off to the west, in an area re-vegetated in 1985 after acid rain from the nearby smelter killed the vegetation, Intermediate Signals, a bridge over a river well below, MP 254, the 6,550 ft. siding on the west side at Hotrum (MP 251.8), a spur off to the east, Intermediate Signals "Adavance Hotrum", a grade crossing at MP 248.45, MP 248, a bridge over a river, extra track on the east side, and the flat crossing with the CP Parry Sound sub., with teh connector in the east quadrant, at MP 247.5, where VIA'a Canadien transfers to/from the CP line for the segment to Parry Sound.

There is a curve southeast, the 6,380 ft. siding at Waterfall (MP 242.8), a bridge across the river, the 6,210 ft. siding at Burwash (MP 236.1), where it turns south-southeast, the 6,100 ft. siding at Bayswater (MP 222.1), a bridge over the river and then one over the French River, a 5,890 ft. siding at Key Junction (MP 214.0), where the line turns southeast, a detector at MP 210.0, the 6,870 ft. siding at Mowat (MP 198.5), a crossing over the CP Parry Sound sub., the 5,870 ft. siding at Drocourt (MP 190.1), a detector at MP 187.0, the 6,270 ft. siding at Burton (MP 181.3), the 5,990 ft. siding at Ardberg (MP 171.9), where the line turns south, a detector at MP 163.2, the 6,160 ft. siding at Waubamik (MP 158.5), the 5,970 ft. siding at North Parry (MP 150.7), and Parry Sound (MP 150.0), where the line leaves behind the Canadian Shield area, land of forest, marshy pools, and bare rock, in favor of agricultural areas with large open fields.

The line turns southeast, past the 6,430 ft. siding at South Parry (MP 147.1), with a connector on the west side at Boyd from the CP Parry Sound sub., used by VIA's Canadien to transfer between the CP north of here and the CN south of here, a bridge over a stream, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals ("Advance Boyd"), a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, the west end at MP 142.7 of the 5,840 ft. siding on the northeast side at Falding (MP 142.1), east end MP 141.6, a bridge over a dirt track, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 140.5, MP 140, a lake alongside to the northeast, a detector at "Bala 138", a grade crossing, MP 138, a bridge over a stream, a turn to the south, dual highway bridges overhead, a dirt road grade crossing, a lake on the east side, a detector at MP 133.7, a lake on the east side, MP 131, and a grade crossing at the west end of the 6,290 ft. siding on the east side at Dock Siding (MP 130.4), where the line turns south-southeast.

There are Intermediate Signals ("Advance Dock Siding"), a dirt road grade crossing, a detector at "Bala 125", a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a road, a marshy lake to the east, Intermediate Signals, a road bridge overhead, MP 119, the 6,430 ft. siding at Medora (MP 118.2), with a dirt road grade crossing, east end MP 117.0, a river to the east, a road bridge overhead, Intermediate Signals, a road bridge overhead, MP 115, Intermediate Signals, a through girder bridge, Lake Minchoke to the west, a through truss bridge, MP 113 and an adjacent grade crossing, a detector at "Bala 112", a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, the 5,970 ft. siding on the south side at Woodward (MP 106.9), east end MP 105.8, a detector at MP 103.9 ("Bala 103"), a through girder bridge over a canal or river, four small lakes on the east side, a grade crossing, a turn south and then southeast, the 6,100 ft. siding on the southwest side at Sparrow Lake (MP 93.4), a grade crossing, east end MP 92.6, a canal or river on the northeast side, MP 91, a grade crossing, a through truss bridge over a canal or river, the west end at MP 89.9 of the 4,300 ft. siding at Washago (MP 88.9), where a line trails in from the northeast, there is a bridge over a stream, a road bridge overhead, and a grade crossing north of the depot on the west side, and the junction with the north-south Newmarket sub.  on the west side at MP 88.7.
