Jasper to Edmonton

From the station (depot and platform on the west side) and yard (on the east side) at Jasper (MP 235.7), the CTC line turns north, along the west side of the Athabaasca River, past MP 235, a highway to the west/north, the north/east end of the passenger track on the west/north side at MP 234.3, the start of two tracks at Jasper East (MP 234.2), a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a highway below, crossovers at English (MP 232.0), detectors at "Edson 231", the end of the two-track segment at Henry House (MP 225.8), a through truss bridge over the river, a road alongside to the east, extra track on the west side, Intermediate Signals at MP 223.x, a large lake to the east (south side) and a park to the west (north side), detectors at MP 216.6 ("Edson 216"), the start of two tracks at Devona (MP 214.6), MP 213, a bridge over a road, a through girder bridge over a river, a through truss bridge over a river, after which the line turns east-northeast, extra track on the north side, Intermediate Signals at MP 210.5, Intermediate Signals at MP 208.3, a through girder bridge over a stream, the end of two tracks at Park Gate (MP 206.0), two lakes on the north side, a detector at "Edson 205", MP 205, a 735 ft. tunnel at MP 204.8, Intermediate Signals at MP 204.3, and a detector at "Edson 202".

There is a lake on the south side formed from the dammed-up Athabasca River, and the line passes the west end at MP 199.5 of the 7,780 ft. siding on the north side, with several extra tracks on the north side, at Swan Landing (MP 199.4), east end MP 197.7, with a park on the north side, where the Grande Cache subdivision continues east-northeast and the main line turns east, a bridge over a stream, Intermediate Signals at Solomon (MP 195.7), crossing the river on a deck girder bridge, a detector at MP 192.0 ("Edson 192"), a dirt track grade crossing, MP 191, the west end at MP 189.9, with very tall signals, of the 6,220 ft. siding on the north side at Entrance (MP 189.7), a road bridge overhead, east end MP 188.7, a high bridge, the west end at MP 186.7 of the 6,090 ft. siding on the north side, with two extra tracks on the north side and additional track off to the east, at Hinton (MP 184.6, concrete depot on south side, historic depot now across highway on south side), east end MP 184.3, where the line turns east-northeast, a bridge over a divided highway, a pulp and paper mill to the north, a detector at "Edson 182", a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, MP 180, the west end of the 6,040 ft. siding on the south side at Pedley (MP 177.0), a dirt road grade crossing, the east end at MP 176.5, the last sight of the mountains from the east, Intermediate Signals, the beginning of two tracks at Dalehurst (MP 173.0), a dirt road grade crossing, a track heads away on the north side for a spur 2.5 miles east to Cloud Mountain Coal (MP 172.9), a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 170.3, Intermediate Signals at MP 168.x, detectors at MP 166.5 ("Edson 166"), Intermediate Signals, a road bridge overhead, dual highway bridges overhead, a divided highway to the north, Hargwen (MP 161.8), where single track resumes, and the line turns east-southeast, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 161, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 160, Intermediate Signals, MP 159, the 6,020 ft. siding on the north side, with a dirt road grade crossing, at Medicine Lodge (MP 155.8), a spur trailing in on the north side, the east end at MP 155.1, and a detector at "Edson 155".

The line continues, turning east, past Intermediate Signals at MP 153.3, MP 153, a dirt road grade crossing, a divided highway alongside to the north, MP 152, a dirt road grade crossing at Galloway (MP 150.2), where two tracks begin again, MP 150, a short spur on the north side, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 148.5, Intermediate Signals, a divided highway alongside to the north, a dirt road grade crossing, detectors at MP 143.2 ("Edson 143"), a road alongside to the north, Intermediate Signals, crossovers at Bickerdike West (MP 140.1), where the west leg of a wye with the Foothills subdivision turns away southeast, Bickerdike East (MP 137.9), where the east leg of that wye trails in from the southwest and single track resumes, Big Eddy (MP 135.7), where two tracks begin again, a dirt road grade crossing, Edson West (MP 130.1), where the line turns east-northeast, single track resumes and the Edson Yard on the south side begins, a dirt track grade crossing, two dirt road grade crossings, Edson (MP 129.6, depot on north side), Edson East (MP 128.6), with a road bridge overhead, where the yard on the south side ends, a road bridge overhead, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, and two tracks resume, a deck bridge across the McLeod River, Yates (MP 122.9), where single track resumes, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, a dirt track grade crossing, two dirt road grade crossings, and the 6,040 ft. siding on the south side, with extra track on the south side, at Wolf Creek (MP 120.8), with a dirt road grade crossing within the siding, where the line turns east.

Two tracks start again, past MP 43, a grade crossing, a spur on the south side 7.3 miles west to TransAlta Utilities (a power station on the south side of Lake Wabamun) from MP 41.8, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 40.5, a dirt track grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, a bridge over a stream, MP 39, a grade crossing, MP 38, Intermediate Signals at MP 37.1, a detector at "Edson 35", a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, west-facing Intermediate Signals, a dirt track grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 32.9, a road bridge overhead, a road alongside to the north, a grade crossing, speed limit 55-50, Carvel (MP 31.8), where single track resumes, speed limit 70-60, two grade crossings, Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 30, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals, a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, a detector at MP 23.8 ("Edson 23"), where the line turns east-northeast, two grade crossings in a town, two grade crossings not in a town, a grade crossing in a town, which is alongside to the north, a highway running parallel on the north side, and Spruce Grove (MP 19.9), where two tracks resume.

There are two grade crossings, Intermediate Signals at MP 17.5, dual road bridges overhead, a grade crossing, detectors at "Edson 15", Intermediate Signals at MP 14.9, two grade crossings, a grade crossing and Intermediate Signals at MP 11.9, a grade crossing, a bridge over a divided highway, MP 9, a road bridge overhead, crossovers and signal bridges at Bissell (MP 8.3), where there are industrial spurs on the south side of the line, more industrial spurs on the south side, dual road bridges overhead, silos served by extra tracks on the north side,  the Sangudo sub. trails in from the northwest, just west of the crossovers and signal bridges at Union (MP 6.2), a road bridge overhead, rail-served industries on the north side, the line turns east, MP 6, extra track on the north side, a grade crossing, rail-served industry to the north, more industrial spurs on the south side, a spur trailing in from the north, a rail-served idustry to the north, a spur trailing in from the north, three extra tracks on the north side, a bridge over a divided street, crossovers at Dunvegan Junction (MP 4.6), where the Westlock sub. trails in from the north and single track resumes, a rail-served site on the north side, crossovers at West Junction (MP 4.2), a bridge over a street, a locomotive depot on the north side, and Walker Yard begins on the north side, with a bypass track on the south side of the yard.

The VIA Edmonton station is on a spur to the south, departing the main just east of West Junction, that curves on a bridge over a highway that runs along the south side of the main line, with the platform and depot on the east side of the north-south spur, with a street to the east of the depot, and the northwest corner of the airport beyond that. The spur is connected with wye tracks, so that it can be access from both directions, but the trains always back in and head out.

East of the station spur, there is a road bridge overhead, car shops on the north side of the main line but south of the yard,  Procyk (MP 3.9), a street alongside to the south with the airport across the street. To the north, the yard has ten tracks, with an additional three tracks south of the others. There is a yard tower and a rotary unloader on the south side of the yard, north of the main. East of the yard, there is a bridge over a road, the "North Edmonton" station sign, and East Junction (MP 0.0), where the Edmonton light rail line approaches from the southwest, passes below, and continues northeast, the Vegreville sub. heads northeast?, and the main line continues east.
