Winnipeg to Oba

From the passenger station at Winnipeg (MP 252.1), on the west bank of the Red River, where freight track bypass the overall trainshed on the east side, there are four tracks serving an island and two side platforms in the trainshed, and the depot on the west side of the trainshed, which comprises abutting umbrella sheds in much the same fashion as those at C&NW station in Chicago, the two track, CTC, line on a bridge or viaduct, crossing above two streets, passing a bridge over a divided street, and three bridges over streets, and turns east-northeast, across a street and the Red River on a through truss bridge, passes two bridges over roads, crossovers at Terminals Cut-off (MP 251.3), where a line turns south-southeast, a bridge over a stream, crosses over a CP line on a through truss bridge, where it turns east-southeast past two bridges over bike paths, a grade crossing, a dual road bridge overhead, a grade crossing, a divided highway grade crossing, crossovers at Beach Junction (MP 248.5), where the Pine Falls sub. turns away east-northeast, and crossovers at Plessis Road (MP 246.7), and turns east, past Transcona (MP 245.7), where there is an industrial park on the north side, Transcona Yard with 6-8 tracks on the north side, Poulon Industrial Park at the east end of the yard, a grade crossing, and Transcona East (MP 243.9), where single track begins.

The line continues, past a divided highway grade crossing, a bridge over a flood control channel, a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, detectors at MP 240.4 ("Redditt 240"), a dirt road grade crossing, the 6,130 ft. siding on the south side at Dugald (MP 238.3), with a grade crossing and a dirt road grade crossing within the siding, a road alongside to the south, a grade crossing, and then a road alongside to the north, three dirt road grade crossings, a detector at "Redditt 232", a bridge over a river, two dirt road grade crossings, the 6,130 ft. siding on the south side at Anola (MP 229.8), a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, a dirt road grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 227.3, three dirt road grade crossings, MP 224, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 223, a dirt road grade crossing, a detector at MP 221.3 ("Redditt 221"), a dirt road grade crossing, MP 221, two dirt road grade crossings, a dirt track grade crossing, MP 219, a bridge over a stream, the west end at MP 217.7 of the 5,920 ft. siding on the south side at Nourse (MP 217.3), east end MP 216.5, a dirt track grade crossing, MP 216, Intermediate Signals at MP 214.x, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 214, and the west end at MP 212.7 of  the 6,010 ft. siding on the south side at Hazel (MP 211.7), east end 211.5.

The line continues, past Ottermere (MP 150.x, depot on the south side), MP 149.7, where two tracks begin, the northernmost reach of the Lake of the Woods on the south side, Intermediate Signals at Hardy (MP 145.1), extra track on the north side at  Wade (MP 143.7), McNulty (MP 140.4), where the line turns south-southeast and single track resumes, a grade crossing, MP 140, a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 137.9, Minaki (MP 137.5), where there is a wooden depot and platform on the north side, and the line turns east, a through truss bridge over a lake or river, a detector at MP 133.8, a bridge over a lake, a tunnel, the 6,460 ft. siding on the south side, with extra track on the south side, at Ena Lake (MP 129.7), Corn Lake on the north side, the 6,020 ft. siding on the north side at Redditt (MP 123.1platform on the south side), with a road bridge overhead within the siding and a grade crossing just within the east end, a lake on the south side,the 5,920 ft. siding on the north side at Farlane (MP 113.4, depot on south side), where  the line turns south and then east again around a lake on the north side, the 5,920 ft. siding on the south side, with extra track on the south side, at Jones (MP 106.0), a detector at MP 102.9, the 5,920 ft. siding on the south side at Favel (MP 99.3), a lake on the south side, and the 6,130 ft. siding on the south side, with extra track on the south side at canyon (MP 90.2), east end MP 89.7, with a lake still on the south side and Canyon Lake on the north side (for 20 miles, total).

There is a 5,930 ft. siding on the north side, with extra track on the north side, at McIntosh (MP 83.5), east end MP 82.2,  where the line turns southeast, a grade crossing,  a detector at MP 80.5 ("Redditt 80"), the west end at MP 75.7 of the 6,120 ft. siding (extended to 13, 450 ft. on December 18, 2009) on the south side at Quibell (MP 74.9), a grade crossing, east end MP 74.3, where the line turns east again, on embankment above the trees growing in the thin soil and marsh above the rocks here, Intermediate Singals at MP 72.9, extra track heading away on the north side, extra track trailing in on the north side, a "station" on the north side at Red Lake Road (MP 71.3), a grade crossing of Red Lake Road just to the east, the west end at MP 66.2 of  the 6,070 ft. siding on the south side at Morgan (MP 65.5), east end MP 65.0, where the line turns east-northeast with lumbering off to the north (in July, 2006), a detector at "Redditt 63.7", Intermediate Signals, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 60, and the west end at MP 58.7 of  the 6,530 ft. siding on the south side (with both line and siding on an embankment) at Niddrie (MP 57.8), east end MP 57.3.

The line continues past Intermediate Signals at MP 56.1, Amesdale (MP 50.9), where it turns east, a dirt road grade crossing, Carroll (MP 50.5), where it turns east-southeast on a rocky ledge, a detector at MP 48.5 ("Redditt 48"), a cutting, a dirt road grade crossing, a dirt road alongside to the north, the west end at MP 45.x of the 6,840 ft. siding on the north side, with s dirt road grade crossing and extra track on the north side, at Richan (MP 45.5), two dirt road grade crossing, east end MP 44.6, a grade crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 42.x, a short tunnel, a lake to the north, a cutting, an embankment, the west end at MP 40.1 of the 6,180 ft. siding on the north side at Millidge (MP 39.4), a lake to the north, a dirt road grade crossing, east end MP 39.0, where the line turns east-northeast, a detector at "Redditt 37", Intermediate Signals, a bridge over a stream, a lake to the north, a dirt road grade crossing, and the west end at MP 32.3 of the 6,090 ft. siding on the south side at Sunstrum (MP 31.8), a dirt road grade crossing, east end MP 31.1.

There is a dirt track grade  crossing, Intermediate Signals at MP 29.x, a lake to the north, a detector at MP 23.5 ("Redditt 23"), a dirt road grade crossing, MP 23, the west end between MP 22 and MP 21 of a 6,070 ft. siding on the south side at Webster, east end MP 20.3, Intermediate Signals at MP 18.7, a lake to the south, a dirt road grade crossing, MP 16, extra track on the north side heading away into a lumber mill, a grade crossing at the lumber mill, a track trailing in from the lumber mill, extra track on the north side at the west end at MP 13.2 of  a 5,790 ft. siding on the north side at Hudson (MP 12.6), east end MP 12.1, where the line turns east, Lost Lake to the north, a dirt road grade crossing, a detector at MP 10.9 (Redditt 10"), a lake to the south, a lake to the north, MP 7, the west end at MP 6.5 of a 6,020 ft. siding on the south side at Pelican (MP 6.2), a dirt road grade crossing, MP 5, a bridge over a stream, Intermediate Signals at MP 4.x, a through truss bridge at MP 1.3 over a river or lake to the north and south, a bridge over a road, signals at MP 0.1, the depot siding begins on the north side, the depot and platform on the north side, two running tracks, and the 6-track yard on the south side at Sioux Lookout (MP 0.0/138.9), named for its role in a war between the local Ojibway and Sioux from afar, in the 18th-century. The town forms a kind of divide between tourism to the west and the lumber industry to the east.

The line passes a road bridge overhead, Sioux Lookout East, signals at MP 137.x, a road alongside to the north, a detector at "Allanwater 135.5", Intermediate Singals at MP 135.3, and turns southeast across another river to west end at MP 133.5 of the 6,310 ft. siding on the north side at Superior Junction (MP 132.5), east end 132.3, where the Graham sub. heads southeast to Thunder Bay, and turns east, along the south side of the river, past Intermediate Signals, a detector at "Allanwater 125.5", and the west end at MP 124.2 of the 6,580 ft. siding on the south side at Rosnel, east end MP 122.9, a river on the north side, Intermediate Signals at MP 121.1, a bridge over a stream, MP 120, MP 119, a lake or river to the north, MP 118, the west end at MP 116.5 of  the 6,350 ft. siding on the south side at Ghost River (MP 115.9), east end MP 115.1, a river or lake to the south, Intermediate Signals and a detector at MP 112.9 ("Allenwater 112"), the west end at MP 109.5 of the 6,020 ft. siding on the south side at Robinson (MP 108.8), east end MP 108.1, lakes to north and south, a through truss bridge over a river, turning east-southeast past Intermediate Signals at MP 106.9, two pools on the north side, MP 102, a lake to the south, and the west end at MP 100.7 of the 5,920 ft. siding on the south side at Ycliff (MP 100.5), east end MP 99.8.

There is a detector at "Allanwater 98", Intemediate Signals at MP 98.x, and the line turns east-northeast  and east again, past MP 96, a lake to the north, MP 93, MP 92, a lake to the north, the 6,140 ft. siding on the south side at Fowler (MP 90.7), east end MP 89.7, a dirt track grade crossing, MP 88, lakes to the north and south, a detector at MP 83.4 (Allanwater 83"), a lake to the north, MP 83, MP 82, a dirt road grade crossing, the 6,520 ft. siding on the south side at Savant Lake (MP 78.6, "station" to the north), a grade crossing, MP 78, east end MP 77.5, Intermediate Signals at MP 75.8, a dirt road grade crossing, a lake to the north, MP 73, a detector at "Allanwater 72", the west end west of MP 70 of the 5,920 ft. siding (extended to 12,250 ft. December 11, 2009) on the north side, with extra track on the north side, at Staunton (MP 69.6), a lake to the south, Intermediate Signals at MP 67.7, lakes to the north and south, the 5,910 ft. siding on the south side at Harvey (MP 65.5), with a lake to the south, a lke to the north, MP 64, lakes to the north and south, a lake to the north, a detector at MP 59.7 ("Allanwater 59"), and  the 5,920 ft. siding on the south side, with extra track on the south side, at Allanwater (MP 55.7).

The line continues past the "station" on the north side at Allanwater bridge (MP 54.1), a through truss bridge over the eponymous lake, the 6,830 ft. siding on the north side at Kawa (MP 46.4), lakes to the north and south, Intermediate Signals, the 6,030 ft. siding on the north side at Jacobs (MP 38.9), , with a lake to the north, a lake to the south, Intermediate Signals, a detector at MP 34.9, the 5,930 ft. siding on the north side at Ogaki (MP 28.3), Intermediate Signals, MP 23, the 5,930 ft. siding on the north side at Collins (MP 21.1), with a dirt track grade crossing and extra track on the north side, east end MP 20.5, where the line turns southeast, Intermediate Signals at MP 19.0, and then east again, a detector at MP 16.8 ("Allanwater 17"), a lake to the north, the west end at MP 15.7 of the 5,930 ft. siding on the south side at Pascopee (MP 14.7), east end MP 14.3, two lakes on the north side, a 5,900 ft. siding on the north side at Onaping (MP 7.4), a detector at "Allanwater 2", a dirt road grade crossing, a grade crossing, MP 1, and the 6,920 ft. siding on the south side at Armstrong (MP 0.0/243.8), with a dirt road grade crossing and a depot on the north side.

There is a 5,950 ft. siding at Wagaming (MP 233.5), a detector at MP 230.0, a 5,990 ft. siding at Green (MP 225.5), a bridge over a river, a 6,450 ft. siding at Ferland (MP 213.7), where the line turns east-southeast, a 5,970 ft. siding at Lamaune (MP 205.0), where it turns east again, a detector at MP 201.4, a 5,970 ft. siding at Minataree (MP 195.6), a 5,980 ft. siding at Penequani (MP 182.3), a detector at MP 178.6, a 6,160 ft. siding at Redmond (MP 170.3), a 6,870 ft. siding at Kowkash (MP 155.4), a detector at MP 150.7, a 5,980 ft. siding at Cavell (MP 146.7), where the line turns east-southeast, a 6,010 ft. siding at Exton (MP 135.9), a 5,980 ft. siding at Nakina (MP 131.6), where the line turns south, a detector at MP 125.9, the 5,950 ft. siding at Poilu (MP 122.2), the 6,840 ft, siding at Bawk (MP 115.4), then 5,940 ft. siding at Isis (MP 108.3), a bridge over a river, Longlac Junction (MP 101.1), where the Kinghorn sub. joins from the west, a bridge over another river, and the 6,660 ft. siding at Longlac (MP 101.1), where the line turns east-southeast.

The line continues past a detector at MP 95.7, the 6,910 ft. siding at Seagram (MP 91.8), the 6,660 ft. siding at Caramat (MP 77.6), the 6,330 ft. siding at Arms (MP 69.8), a detector at MP 67.5, the 6,030 ft. siding at Gamsby (MP 62.7), where it turns east, and then south-southeast past the 6,530 ft. siding at Otterdale (MP 51.4) and the 6,440 ft. siding at Hillsport (MP 42.3), where the Manitouwadge Spur goes off and the line turns south-southeast again. There is a detector at MP 39.2, a 5,980 ft. siding at Osawin (MP 35.4), a 6.010 ft. siding at Leigh (MP 25.3), a detector at MP 15.7, a 6,180 ft. siding at Tondern (MP 12.8, a 5,870 ft. siding at Lennon (MP 5.8), Jackfish (MP 3.1) and Hornepayne (MP 0.0/296.2). The line continues past Wicksteed (MP 294.4), a 6,240 ft. siding at Cree (MP 291.9), where it turns east, a 5,980 ft. siding at Shekak (MP 284.9), where it crosses teh eponymous river, a detector at MP 282.3, a 5,990 ft. siding at Penhurst (MP 279.2), where it turns southeast, a 5,980 ft. siding at Macduff (MP 271.2), a bridge over the Kabinakagami River, a 5,980 ft. siding at Albany Forks (MP 263.2), and the 5,670 ft. siding at Oba (MP 257.7), where the former Algoma Central crosses at grade and has lines north to Hearst and south to Sault Ste. Marie.
